From what I read, people of all ages recognise the talent of Randy Moss.
From what I read, people of all ages dislike his unsportsmanlike bahaviour.
From what I read, age has nothing to do with any preference for him that some posters (the minority) might have expressed in this thread.
There is no correlation between age and approval or disapproval for Randy Moss as a potential Skin. So, the original hypothesis proposed at the beginning of this thread does not seem to pass the test.
IMO, the difference among posters is really those who emphasise -individuality- versus a -team- effort. Most of us seem to prefer a great -TEAM- rather than a collection of great -INDIVIDUALS-. I thought that the Danny growth years had tought us something. And they did, just not enough to some fans.

I'm 113. As a youngster, we ate moss.
Didn't like it then, don't like it now.

this is soo very frustrating hearing how many people here on this site want Randy Moss.
Randy Moss is a great talent and that is a fact. BUT, Randy Moss doesn't know how to harness it and he NEVER will. If he had Rice's work ethic, he would be the best of all time, especially statistically. Unfortunately it will never happen because he has a poor work ethic, attitude and no desire to be the best.
I say that Randy Moss has cost the Vikings more games than he's won for them. His bad attitude(jogging it out when the play is going the other way, I play when I want to etc...) has infected the majority of the team. The Vikings have a very talented team. They always start hot and finish as badly as any team in the league. I say this is because they aren't a team. When Randy has free reign to do ABSOLUTELY anything he wants, why should anyone else on the team do what they are supposed to? Like work hard, play with heart, listen to the coaches...McCombs himself tried to get Buck fired for calling what Randy did what it was...Unacceptable...
I am 35 years old, and I definitely don't want Randy on my team. IMO, Randy would be worse for the Skins than Peion was. Teams win, not individuals. Two perfect examples are the Patriots(a true team the last few years) and the Redskins in Snyders first years(a bunch of individuals).
If Chris Carter couldn't get Randy's head on straight, Joe Gibbs certainly wouldn't be able to...
Some notes...
Ray Lewis didn't kill anyone according to the court. Ray Lewis loves football. He works harder than anyone in the game and I would LOVE to have him.
TO was behaving pretty much this season, but he did have a few moments and if the Eagles went 10-6, he would have definitely been his normal self.
Corey Dillon was unhappy playing for a team that wasn't trying to win. He was never a problem until he realized management was just lying to him about improving the team. By the time they did start fixing things, they'd decided to replace him...

If that's true, it would be because Randy Moss doesn't want to be all that he can be.
I hate to drag this old chestnut out, but Manley and Riggins were both handfuls. Comparable ? Absolutely, considering the era in which they played. Don't forget, Riggo wore a Mohawk as a Jet long before anybody ever heard of Mr. T .
I have an old SI with Manley on the cover. It shows his drug-crazed face in full scream mode, with a large caption in quotes, "Get Outta My Way !"
In those days, that was something. Lyle Alzado and Tatum were assassins, to be sure. Dobler was a real monster. But Manley was out of his gourd stoned, and Joe handled him.
Randy Moss, were he the least bit receptive, would come around. Problem is, I don't think he
is the least bit receptive.
Besides, Jake would never allow him to come here. He's got a soft spot for crossing guards, and Randy considers them traffic obstacles.

I totally agree TC. I think that players today who are like Randy, TO, and Chad Johnson are compareable to Riggins etc... There's a difference in todays players though. They don't feel accountable to the coaches. They don't respect the coaches. Look at Moss. I like Mike Tice, but mebbe Mike Tice isn't the right coach for the Vikings. Excuse me? Can you imagine if Portis said that about Gibbs? Clinton would be outta DC so fast his friggin red socks would turn blue. Cap or no cap. Gibbs knows or will know this about Randy if a trade possibility is there. Randy will not be coming to washington no matter how bad Snyder or anyone else wants him to.

I think you can blame Chad Johnson ON Moss and Owens.
He sees what makes the Sportscenter Highlights.

im 16 years old and im not sure if i would want Moss. Sure hes got talent and all, but we dont need more stars on this offense and I wouldn't be too concerned about his actions cause if he did anything stupid, Joe would kill him (

=

) So sure, I would take Moss.

So ScottSkins (I'm assuming you're a redskins fan but why fly the horseshoe?) You would have Gibbs and Co. go after Jerry Rice this offseason as oppossed to #84. Mmm Mmm Mmmm Wow. You say "Moss has lost more games than he has won for the Vikings" but honestly, do you think Min. wins more games this season w/o Randy Moss?... I doubt they would have even made the playoffs. Look if not Moss Who? I think that question is the logical evolutional ending to this neverending thread.

I think Gibbs has seen Randy Moss up close this year in action and I think that goes well for the Redskins because I know Gibbs is not afraid to reel any player in (R. Williams would probably test his limits but still Gibbs would have that sucker in the endzone so much he wouldn't need the greensticky). Lavar jst may have to take his contract disputing sandbagging self to Min.

Yes I'm a Skins fan. I changed my logo so as to easily recognize my own posts and the colts are who I'm rooting for in these playoffs.
I would go after Plaxico or Mushim if either are still available and not asking for anything out of this world. I'd also consider Patten. Other than that, I'd draft a lower round guy in the draft. Preferably a very raw speed guy with good hands and a great work ethic. I like our current group minus Gardner.
I think without Moss these last few years, the vikings would have developed into a much stronger team. Their offense would be almost as strong and their defense would be better because they would be accountable. There is a ton of talent on that offense and Randy isn't the majority of it. Bennett and Smith are both top 10 RBs and Daunte is a top 3 QB. They have a great offensive line and their WRs are good enough with Daunte at QB.
Mike Tice would be a much better coach without Randy.
Randy pretty much screws up the whole philosophy of the team. When you have a guy who the owner backs 100% who has a poor attitude, work ethic, and the coach cannot discipline him in any way, you have a football team that self implodes and will never win the superbowl.
Joe Gibbs is building a team that is 100% accountable and is a family. The guys know that no matter who they are, if they don't give it everything they have, they simply won't be around much longer. These guys will also learn that the guy next to them giving up a sack is also their fault. They want the guy next to them to succeed just as badly as they want to succeed. It's chemistry. Something we haven't had since the last time the coach was here. If you need any proof, just look at how they never gave up in yet another losing season. That's been my biggest problem with the skins since Joe left. They always gave up once the team started losing. Sorta like Randy did when he walked off the field before the game with the skins was over....
Randy will not be a redskin

Do you know much about Gibbs? Didn't you see all the speeches about character guys, guys with heart? Look at his history. Other than the guys he started with like Riggo, he never brought guys in who looked like selfish players or guys with bad work habits. The HOGS are a prime example. For the most part, the HOGS were castoffs who weren't considered great players at their positions, but they became one of the best Lines in history because they worked hard to be the best. Joe doesn't care about talent if the ego, the work ethic, or the attitude is bad. He would much rather have a guy who will go to war with you and do everything within his limits to get the win. Randy is so far from a Gibbs guy, it makes me laugh that redskins fans really think this is a viable discussion...

Durrr.... I guess that would be me you're calling out. I didn't say ONLY kids want flashy players, just that in general, kids like the flash that comes from playmakers. All kids see are the SportsCenter highlights and that's what attracts them to most players like Michael Vick and Peyton Manning.
That aside, I'm surprised how many kids don't want Moss. The general consensus of people who want Moss are in their 20's and a couple in their 30's. And in general, people in their 30's and up don't want Moss, which I assumed correctly, thank you very much.

Alot people dont know why they dont want Moss, they say it because they dont have minds of there own.
I want Moss because is the fastest clucth receiver put on this earth to date. There has been know other receiver like him(according to Jerry Rice)
Another reason people say they dont want him is because they really dont think we have a chance in hell to land him.
I remember the Pre-portis days when the same exact thing happened. Most of the board members were calling Portis money crazed and Joe would not take a back that is small and greedy like Portis. Then when the deal was on the table, all the make believers switched their stances.
It was funny and still is...................

WHAT????????
4 words... Bob Hayes, Bobby Mitchell.
TEAM players, btw.
Alot people dont know why they dont want Moss, they say it because they dont have minds of there own.
Again, what are you talking about? Since you seem to be having some difficulty compiling the posts, let me summarize what folks have said for you:
No one here has questioned Moss's obvious prolific talent. There are MANY, however, who have seen much evidence that brings into question his motivation, desire, discipline, or willingness to subjugate his need for attention to the needs of the team.
What Gibbs probably sees of Moss:
Tremendous potential, never fully realized (after 7 years, strong evidence of a lack of desire and self-discipline, especially with a QB like Culpepper). Me, me, me. (a minor sin on a Gibbs team, unless it turns into>>>)
Multiple examples of Moss running at half speed on routes not intended for him (a MAJOR sin on a Gibbs team). Multiple examples of Moss denegrating team mates and coaches in public (a MAJOR sin on a Gibbs team).
To those who believe that Moss's presence would make Coles even better... think again. Moss must be the center of the universe. He will never risk that by assisting other good players to be even better. Frequently, when a route is not intended for Moss, the DB's know it, because Moss doesn't execute his decoy routes.
Moss will not be a Redskin.

DUDE????????????
I don't want an ageing MLB who is flat out annoying and retains a reputations through tackling people who are already being pulled down then jumps up and acts like he just single handedly made a fourth down stop on the last play of the game.
You see him get ran over by Corey Dillon two plays in a row this year? He is overrated and is declining physically.

Don't get me started on Ray Lewis - I would probably switch teams after 35 years if we got him.

Where on this planet was this rumor started and why on earth would it have been started. The whole NFL Live starting the rumor? Well ive seen the whole week worth of nfl live, going through my football withdraw of course, and nobody said a word about a possible trade. So in finality can we all just agree that Randy Moss is a great wide reciever, a hell of a Headcase, and most importantly, NOT A REDSKIN!!!

Said head coach Joe Gibbs: “Doug wound up being the right man in the right place. You have a guy who played great when he first came out of college, went to the USFL, turned around and became a backup, then comes all the way back and is MVP in the Super Bowl. That's one of the great stories in sports history.”

When I think of a true team player...a core player, the last person that comes to mind is Randy Moss. I mean come on...you NEVER leave your team on the field with time left on the clock. His comments about his genetalia show how immature and un-ruley he is. STAY AWAY.

still, that lick he put on coles was awesome. i'd love to see other WR's spitting up blood on the sidelines, if he were in B&G.
