I think we have a solid group of QB's. Great blend of experience and potential. Is anyone else out there concerned about the recievers ajusting to Brunells left handed passes? Doesn't the ball tail off differently? I think it may be hard, even if though guys catch passes during practice from Brunell, for the recievers to switch from left to right midway through a game. Help me out here fellow skins.

I don't mean to belittle either candidate. I'm just saying...why make an emotional attachment to either one ? Let's just let Gibbs pick his starter and go with it, you know ?
Patches is a fine QB and a fine person, I'm sure. If Brunell is better, well... Let's just win, man !

that's why they have practices :)

You think they aren't throwing it around during workouts and walkthroughs? ::grin::

Ugh....we had a leftie and rightie in highschool. Im left handed also. As far as I can tell a spiral is a spiral no matter what hand its coming from. I caught passes from the both easily. In conclusion, if you can catch, it won't matter who throws it.

it is the WR's job to catch the ball. and as stacked as we are at WR, if one can't catch it, another one will.....

Hey skinsfaninroanoke, I remember several years ago...........

Gosh my memory is kinda hazy on who.....It was either when Joe Montana got hurt and Steve Young came in or Steve Young got hurt.....But I do know that Jerry Rice, who is one of the best recievers of all time, was still on the 49'ers and he even had trouble switching from left hander to right hander or vice versa.....I wish I could remember who exactly.

Also last year, I watched the Falcons beat the crap out of the cowboys (THAT WAS GREAT) and I watched us beat them. Then I didn't watch them until Vick returned. Once Vick returned I saw Pearless Price drop a couple of balls thrown his way. The announcers said it was because of the way the football moves. That taking that different rotation can make it difficult to catch. And after seeing it I must say that I had to agree with it.

You see the rotation of the ball makes a difference. The release of the ball is also different. Its something new to the recievers. They can catch those balls, but they will have to get used to the new rotation and the release. I'm just hoping that it won't cost us to big until they do get used to it.

Seriously bro - you are talking about last minute replacements or people who weren't out throwing all the time because of injury.

vick and doug johnson are no comparison. price had bledsoe throwing bullets to him in BUF. vick was throwing bullets in ATL till he got hurt. johnson wasn't. price had to let the ball catch up, until vick showed back up. fortuantly for us, both right and left handed, both our QB's throw nfl bullets. like i said before, it will be the receivers job to catch the ball. and if he can't, we only got about six other WR's on the roster who can......

Ok but what about scheme.......roll out, blocking patterns and what not.....no worries about consistency there? I'm not second guessing Gibbs or Brunell......just voicing concerns in order to better understand the differences and components of switching from left to right handed QB's.
BTW I played high school ball at EC Glass and we did not have any lefty qb's so no experience around one.

maybe your schemes will differ. i've never played pro, but what experience i do have, when you are a WR, and the ball comes your way, spiral, or no spiral, duck or no duck, it's your job to catch it. and its not like both these guys won't be taking snaps in practice, so the wideouts ahould have some feel for whats what....

I've never noticed a difference. The only difference I can imagine is if you have to catch on a different side of ur body. As WR you should be able to catch on either side, though starting out one side feels more comfortable. The ball spirals no differently. Im a lefty and my spirals are just as sloppy as my right handed friend, lol.

Joey T:

Yes, he scrambled. He was the most mobile QB the Skins have had with a good arm. A brilliant athlete. Look at the way he broke up a pass in SB17...would have been a disaster when a Dolphins lineman battled one back in his face. JOe Leaped inside the lineman's arms to rip the ball out fand throw it to the gound for an inclomplete. Big play, quick reaction/

And...yes, Joe returned punts for George Allen...who hated rookies. Theosman wanted to be on the field, so...

Why Brunell is going to start:
1) He has led a winning team into the playoffs.
2) He has lost, led the league in sacks, he has been injured and has come back from all of it. Experience, poise and guts.
3) He has a bigger contract (tie goes to the money).
4) He has had operations on both knees, but he is still faster and quicker than Ramsey.
5) He is more healthy now than he has been in years.
6) He is getting a fresh start and has something to prove.
7) He throws one of the prettiest out patterns in the NFL (ask Jimmy Smith).
8) He is just a very good QB, you are going to be pleasantly surprised.

Open competition...blah blah blah. That's just coach speak so that all players are motivated. Running back is also an "open competition" but does anyone believe it is not Portis' job to loose? It's Brunell's job to loose no question about it.

Hey "The Ram"- Marino, Montana and Aikman were successful because...they were Marino, Montana & Aikmen. Plus they normally had great supporting casts. Don't even think about putting P-Ram in the same class as those guys (yet!). He does not even deserve to hold those guys clip boards...(yet!)
