If Nicks (I haven't watched him much) is athletic enough to fit in the ZBS then cool but if he's more of a mauler we wont go after him. As for Monty after watching Rabach for those years I liked him because at least he has some muscle and is a little quicker. You didn't see Ratliff manhandling him like he did to Rabach and he held his own for the most part.
I think Carl Nicks will and could fit any scheme.

I want some straight bulls at guard, some road grading beasts. The Hogs baby thats what we need obviously.

I could settle for good pass blocking but must have excellent run blockers. Especially if we are going to continue to have putrid QB play. Regardless we need a franchise QB and a solid line to go along with the QB.

I'm all for road grader but they want ZBS guys and based on the roster that are good in the ZBS suck at pass pro. The guy that can pass protect can't get on the field because they can't run block in the ZBS.

We'll see the stretch play as long as there's a Shanahan on the offensive side of the ball.

But we can hope

I agree with Redskin1 here - the current NFL offenses are no longer like the older style that got Gibbs his 3 rings

might be nice to see some franchise try that again but for now the passing game is the offense that works best

we are looking at getting things together here slowly and are not likely to see a power run game like we had in Gibbs era

The run game and stopping the run are still important but the offense of today that are consistently successful are mainly pass oriented

Sounds like Carl Nicks could end up getting tagged. I'd love to have a shot at him. We should all be hoping they don't get a deal done for Brees anytime soon!

I think that the O line is very important to this franchise going forward

I fully expect this FO to get a reasonable deal done and get R.G.III AND they will bring in a free agent QB

we need a lot of help and good depth along the O line

yes we need a WR but we've got to get the QB deal done AND we need 'insurance' along the O line

having a knucklehead like Williams at LT is worrying at best

We sure can. What gets me about the Shanahans is why they dont think a certain player could adjust to ZBS. Let me take it back a bit when faced with the descision to draft Trent or Okung. I just dont see how they didnt think Okung could do what Williams is now doing.

The way I see it is a good lineman can do whatever is asked of him. Players like Hutchinson, Bruce Matthews etc.. Just draft the quality lineman and he will be able to handle the ZBS.

Up to how much money would you guys give up for Nicks? I would probbably give up Franchice Tag money around 9 million or so.(For the best guard in football.)

A lot of people are saying that once Brees signs up the Saints will use the franchise tag on Nicks.

I expect Shanny to bring in a couple of off-the-radar guys from free agency or low down the draft who he feels fit his scheme well, unless he sees real value from one of the bigger names available.

For quarterbacks the franchise tag is $14.4 million doallars, which is a huge steal for Drew Brees,

I here they are going to franchise him and then try to work out a long term deal.

Well I'm praying your post doesn't happen.

Well I'd love to have Nicks as well, although he does sound a little too money motivated in his interview for my liking, we don't want another fat Albert in the squad.

But I also trust Shanny to be able to identify a player or two lower down the draft that fits his ZBS perfectly that other teams have overlooked. Ideally I'd like one of them plus a more experienced, battle-hardened campaigner with good skill sets, like Nicks.

For this off season to go well we're gonna need a discovery from lower down the draft to match each more experienced talent we pick up in free agency. Especially if we have had to give up early picks to get up the draft ladder.

For me he has only been making a couple million for the past 4 years and has played exceptionally, I just hope he doesn't go to a team rival like the Cowboys.

No, he's definitely earned it, just hope that's not all he's into.

And if he ends up a cowpat I'll teach you a whole heap of new swear words that we use over here...

Nicks has earned his payday - the Saints should keep him

not sure that he suits what the Redskins do though

Carl Nicks should be the highest paid lineman - somebody has to be - he's it
