Check back tomorrow night. We should know who is starting the game. I am interested to see what the poll shows when everyone knows who is starting.
But I also want to point out. Hightower was the announced starter on Sunday and he didn't play a down. Also, if Rex starts, he might be on a very short lease, so you game plan for Grossman and then Beck comes in early.
Like I said, I think this game is going to come down to strategy by both HC's and of course turnovers nad injuries will probably figure into it.
Well like I said I think it was in my first post, Hightower is your best option because he gave us time each time we played the Cardinals. He should be the man if your team wants to get the run game going.
The only thing that might help us against the Skins is that we have McDermott and he should be all to familiar with Washington.

True our O is not hot and Rex is spiraling downward with each game, but track his history, he always comes up with a game in which he looks like an All-Pro. Of course, he returns to his turnover machine self.
Look forward to see in this thread tomorrow after the QB is announced. Should be fun, bu tit doesn't matter to me, I believe that Good Rex will show up this Sunday and if he doesn't, he will be yanked much sooner than the 4th quarter. See ( Read) you tomorrow.

Have a very bad feeling about this game. I could easily see Cam Going OFF against the skins and having to see highlights of him punking us for years Ala an early McNabb. I also Think Carolina is a much better team than their record indicates, and is due for a win. Lastly... Another game we Should win, and Need to win.... so naturally we will not.

That's Mike Vick jr they have in Cam.... someone better "spy" him out.

we win in a close game
we lose in a shootout
our offense does NOT have tools in place to be a high scoring offense.
hopefully our D comes ready to play and not come out flat as we did last week.
maybe we can not fall behind and some how get a rb off this week
grossman starts we lose reason look at the past 8 games
beck gives us hope and after a week of practice he should play well

There is possibly 1 or 2 fans here that are stupid enough to think the Redskins can even participate in a "shootout"
we have a chance at winning this game if we can keep the ball on the ground - we do not have a passing game
oue defense needs to keep their offense in check and our offense needs to run the clock and NEVER attempt a pass

I just hope Chud comes up with an offensive plan that doesn't require Newton to run at the goaline and I am getting tired of them running him on an option because teams are trying to lay the wood on Cam. He is young and full of energy but I want him to last throughout the season and many more. The Skins hit hard so the Panthers need to do something in the 2nd and 3rd quarters because that's when the team has a tendency to stall. We can't afford to stall out with a defense like the Redmen and the boys in blue need to keep their foot on the gas.
I need to check up on Beck to see what kind of player he is because my boys can't afford to play against a consistent quarterback that can lean on the run game.

Doesn't seem like a pot stirrer to me. Just a fan of another team. I like that on THN if they are respectful. No Copwpie fan has ever been respectful, so I don't have to worry about that.

Doubt you'll find many people here predicting a Skins loss, give the nature of the site. However, I'd also say this is a game the Redskins *should* win. Their defense is tied for the league lead in touchdowns allowed and is second in scores allowed. They're also tied for third in sacks. Carolina has an explosive offense, but this will be a test for your rookie QB.

We will win because there will be almost as many Skins' fans at the game as Panthers' fans.
I think we win with a score something like 20-16 or 17-16. If the Panthers score more than 20 I only give is about a 5% chance of winning. If neither tesm turns the ball over reverse those chances.
The Skins will run the ball and force Carolina into a Couple of turn overs.

If Kyle Shanahan wants to get into a shootout with the Panthers, we lose. Especially if Rex Grossman is still the starting quarterback. We cannot abandon the run like we did against the Eagles. I voted "Don't Know" because I don't know who's starting yet. If Beck gets the nod, I think there's going to be some interesting play calls that the Panthers D won't be prepared for.

Like most here - I'm hoping that Beck starts
Who starts at QB is not as important as Kyle's game planning and play calling
- we need a much more run oriented offense that ONLY utilizes a short AND safe passing game
This Redskins defense is going to give Newton a lot of different looks
- pressure will help the Redskins secondary
The Panthers are a lot like the Redskins in that they've improved since last year but this game comes down to a VERY frustrated Redskins' defense showing up and giving our offense the ball for 35+ minutes
we will not score many points (our offense is mediocre at best) - we will be limiting your offense enough

[quote="mrcatwalker"]The Washington Redskins are leading the series against the Carolina Panthers 7-2. The last time the Panthers won was when they played in 2009 which was the last game.

I remember the game well. A game we should have won no doubt. Also, unfortunately, it was Chris Samuels last

I think it's stupid to think that this Redskins offense would be capable of being involved in a "shootout"
AND .. there are not many stupid fans here
In the first 4 games we were one of the best in the NFL in time of possession
we are NOT capable of scoring a lot of points if our offense keeps playing like we have

I would just like to see an exciting team for once. We always play the "small ball" drag out kind of games. I don't think that is how to win anymore. IMO in the next few years we need to work on a legit deep threat as well as a QB that can get the ball there (accurately).

BINGO - these guys are getting there but it will take a little more time
I think that's part of the problem here - Kyle thinks he's got the players and the plays that he's calling are just not possible
we'll get a QB, the O line will have the players and the depth, the receivers and RBs will be a lot better
both Mike & Kyle know that you have to be able to put a lot of points on the board and this O cannot really do that

Beck's starting. Game over, we win. I predict a possible 300 yard game for him too. We'll have the ball for the majority of the game, limiting Newton's effectiveness on the field. I say 24-17 Skins.

mrcatwalker wrote:Red_One43 wrote:That is a tough question for even homers like me, but here it goes.
If Rex plays, we still win. Rex played very well in the Giants game (110 rating) even though we couldn't run. Even though Rex is a turnover machine, he does have some games where he looks like an All-Pro. I thought he was due last week, but of course, I was wrong. I think he is due this week for the following reason. We got our tails whipped by Philly last year coming out of the bye week. We turned around and went to Tennessee and beat the Titans on their home field. History does sometimes repeat itself. We did get lucky in the Titan game and knocked Vince Young out and in came Collins? No, Opie himself - a rookie named Rusty. Our O line was decimated during that game, Dockery played. Heyer played guard, but we still ran on them (it helped that they were undersized on the D line - are you guys undersized?)
If Beck starts - I think Beck gives \us the best chance to win, because we don't have to pray that good Rex shows up. Beck brings that mobility to the table and is more careful with the ball. Beck is no Brady, but he is no Grossman either. Our Offense opens up and Carolina sees plays that they didn't game plan for.
I would be lying if I said that Cam Newton doesn't make me nervous. Our D has a history of not playing well against highly mobile QBs, but we contained Vick in the second half with the exception of a big play, so I think Cam will get a big play or two during the game, but we will contain him enough to win. Also, Cam should be on the lookout for Dirty 30 when he scrambles, he is known to knock a a QB or two out of the game. He got Vick temporarily last week and did it last year.
I am definitely concerned about Charles Johnson as a pass rusher. If Locklear is at LT, then he will need a lot of help.
To me, Carolina is like Philly in that they have a poor record, but they put up a good fight in every game. This is not a typical 1-5 team.
What will Carolina's game plan be? Stack the box? I believe that Shanny and Co will be ready for that this time. Why weren't they ready last time?
You got me!
As you see I got nothing definitive that our 3-2 team will go out and beat your 1-5 team.
I am like you, both teams have strengths and some glaring weakness. The coach with the best game plan and luck of the bouncing ball wins this game for their team. The Skins will bring on the intensity- they won more games on the road last year than at home. Don't know where Carolina is with intensity - are they frustrated or are they feeling that they are as good as any team. The played the Packers well - will they take the Skins lightly.
So regardless of who starts at QB for the Skins, we win this game for the same reason (We are capable of playing good football) we beat a team like the Giants who beat the Bills who beat the Eagles. I don't buy that stuff that the Giants were injured - they were injured against the Bills. Turns out the Cowboys weren't so weak as folks had been saying - darn near knocked off the Pats on their home turf.
I take back the notion your team hasn't played anybody becaue the Cowboys are ranked in the top 10 in offense and defense and y'all played them well. Even though they are a division team that still means a lot.
Good stuff, this is a tough call but the only reason why I say the Panthers will win is because the Redskins are struggling on offense mainly with passing. Cam will find a way to move the ball down the field and I say this because our offense mostly start drives at the 15 or under. Special teams isn't helping us out at all, but we haven't played a team with a top 10 defense so this will be a real test for the boys in electric blue.
If the Skins can't run the ball, they will have to rely mainly on defense to create turnovers to put y'all in good field position. Carolina has effectively silenced some good receivers such as Roddey White, Larry Fitzgerald, Greg Jennings but Jordy had a field day. Colston didn't do much for the Saints either but Graham was a cowboy out there. Who is the Skins tight end?
If you can get your tight end into action as well as your running backs you have a good chance to win because we are missing 2 key linebackers so there are mis-matches available if your personnel can monopolize.
Well, there is only one thing left and this to Play the Game!
