It does kind of suck for Holliday. To be the player rep and deal with all the BS through the whole lock-out. Then get traded away right after the NFL resumes work again.

From a technical standpoint, I like the Hightower deal. But Holliday is a good veteran leader and seem to contribute nicely to this defense last season.

Player reps have usually had a high attrition rate, esp when there have been work stopages.

i don't know why people here are not getting more excited about this. hightower is just a 25 year old RB that

1. rushing yards increased from 399 to 598 to 736

2. average yards per rush increased from 2.8 to 4.2 to 4.8. HE AVERAGED 4.8 YARDS PER RUSH LAST YEAR.

3. he has a nose for the goal line... 23 TDs in 48 games.

4. he is considered a good pass blocker.

shanahan has certainly improved upon alot less than that.

plus... the cards are where RBs go to die. name the last good cardinal RB. all time greats like emmit smith and edgerrian james (albeit the end of their careers) couldn't run the ball there.

i like the idea of trading for a RB that in 3 career years has improved his yards and yards per attempt each year in the league. i see him as our starting RB for the next few years.

They did have Grim running the line there. that tells me how he got those yards.

This guy puts the rock on the ground too much for my liking. Where does he fit in the grand scheme of things? Keiland Williams is out 3rd down guy as of right now, and we need him in there as he is very good at picking up the blitz.

Williams is a FB right now, Hightower looks to be the 3rd down guy MAYBE

Answer - Starter. Torrain is injury prone. Teaching not to fumble is somewhat teachable (see > tiki barber). rushing for 4.8 yards per attempt is not. and hightower did that last year.

Not sure why you two guys said Bradshaw.

It's a hard comparison to make because NYG runs the ball more than AZ but Bradshaw has the same fumble issue that Hightower has. Last year Ahmad had 7 and Tim had 5. If you look at their stats before that it pretty much balances out (fumble wise).

Like someone else said, Bradshaw is going to want starter money and we're not breaking the bank like we used to. I personally think Hightower was a good deal and to add him to the cluster would be great for the younger ones. (not like he's old either so that's also a plus)

Would I liked it if we got McGahee instead, absolutely but "it is what it is" and I'm just happy we're doing something positive.

It makes perfect sense. He's young, but has three years experience. Torain is injury prone and everyone else is unproven. I am hoping he's good with picking up blitzes, we don't have Portis anymore.

As for Bradshaw, I don't know the details but I'm thinking he's going to be a lot more expensive. This way we have a running back with experience and more money to spend on bigger needs. What I don't get is why you wouldn't want Hightower and yet you'd want to spend more on Bradshaw.

Vonny twitted this morning that this was only a rumor and he will be reporting to Arizona today

Like every move Shanahan and Allen have made so far, adding Hightower:

a) adds talent
b) adds youth
c) brings in a player who IS NOT being handed a starting job, but rather, is going to have to EARN his touches
d) does not put the team on the hook for an overly large contract/bonus

What's not to like? If he fumbles too much, he'll lose reps to Torain/Williams/Helu/Royster

If Torain goes down to another injury, we have another option besides Williams/Helu/Royster, who collectively have 65 rushing attempts in the NFL.

It's hard not to like this trade - we've given up so little, there is very little downside. On the other hand, the upside is to get a good 3rd back at worst, or maybe a durable new starter at best.

I see Shanahan working to create a healthy rotation of down hill runners in the offensive backfield. Next questions: "Can the O-line keep up?" "Will the passing game be adequate to keep the box uncluttered?"

At first I was iffy on this deal, but after fully looking at Hightower (age, size, highlights) he adds something that makes it exciting.

6 foot 220+lbs 4.43 forty, and Dreadlocks I think Helu makes it as the 3rd string RB as we go for youth, speed & size.

At least it is a ?, the OL is only marginally improved so we know it will be bad, just like last year. The only thing we have done to improve it was sign a Ravens' backup to "improve" one spot.

Very little change to the OL, means very little change to the OL!

Only one carry from camp, but given his fumbling issues the last couple of years I hope that the staff is able to work with him to get this under control.
