IF we pick in the top 20 this year that player will most likely be a very good player here for many years - HOWEVER, we have so many needs that it would be nice to increase the number of picks in the first 3 rounds any way that we can - C'MON DOWN New England
the guys that made all the mistakes and had the terrible talent evaluators no longer have any input here - we are now in the hands of guys that really should know what they are doing - the mistakes that this FO made since they came in have primarily been due to thinking that they could be competitive while re-building and changing this franchise - THAT DID NOT WORK
hopefully we will now make the commitment to plan ahead
we need to focus more on what it will take to be very good 2 to 3 years down the road, NOT this season - players that are older now (over 29) and that might be worth something to another team should be traded
Through the 2011 and 2012 drafts and by adding young free agents, I hope this franchise no longer has any older players on either the offensive or defensive lines by the begining of the 2012 season
we need to become one of the youngest franchises in the league as quickly as possible - we are way too old at too many positions
BOT - I think that given the number of positions of need the Patriots have this year and the number of draft picks at their disposal, they might just be more amenable to a trade ESPECIALLY as it looks like the draft will happen before free agents become available
Julio Jones might be V enticing to Bill and he does look like he'll be there at 10

OK so I agree, and dont agree. I honestly think we are a few good young players away from competing, and I dont think everyone over 29 should be traded. I understand what you are saying, but dont agree. Now if we have depth in certain areas, and teams look for a trade there (TE) then I have no problem at all.

say what .. I guess
I'm not really suggesting we trade EVERYONE that provides 'value' per se but I hope we look more long term and try and get as many picks in this and next years draft as we can
Snyder will pull the rug on these guys if they don't stop making the same mistakes - I think we need to stop looking stop-gap and just make a commitment to long term gains - we need to stop trying and start doing things that will mean a much larger, younger group of players are the base of this franchise ASAP
we don't have to WIN NOW - we want to see consistently good product on the field each and every season

"we need to focus more on what it will take to be very good 2 to 3 years down the road, NOT this season - players that are older now (over 29) and that might be worth something to another team should be traded"
That was from your post, I was merely disagreeing with what you said about trading all players that over 29 that could be worth something to other teams. I said that I would however trade players who played a position of depth for us like TE. If someone offered us a 2nd for Cooley or a 3rd for Davis, then as much as I like them, I would have to seriously consider those offers

I probably should have clarified it better - I agree we don't just want to get rid of or trade everyone over 29 - I do think we need to consider the best route for this club that will add to the draft picks for both this and next year's draft and also by not adding older free agents
we need to look longer term and not try and be a "winner' now - WE NEED TO GET A LOT YOUNGER as quickly as possible
we will have some older players but not as many is all I'm saying

I truly hope this does not happen. I don't see the Pats wanting to go UP anyway... that's not their style and never has been. Besides, if we go DOWN, I want it to be WAY DOWN, like late 20's or possibly even out of the first round all-together.
I don't see much that I like in terms of players for this team up there in the top spots (at least not ones that we're likely to have any shot at), so I'd be just as happy to spend that money on Free Agents and get out of the First Round completely.

I gotcha skinsjock, just did not understand what you were saying. I completely agree with you though that we do need to get alot younger. I agree with you Fanatic, and with such a deep draft I would not mind at all trading down multiple times out of the 1st round and pick up an extra 2-3 2nd rounders.
If we could come out of the 2nd rounder with a starting OLB, DE, LG and QB of the future, that would be unbelievable and we would be ALOT younger

Nope. Just someone who has certain expectations for First Round draft picks and who does not believe there's going to be anyone available who will meet those expectations. So in my mind it's better to get a proven player in free agency than to waste our time on a rookie who won't live up to expectations.

# 17 in the first round , not bad right, also, there will be a 2nd round pic. Never mind the draft if there is no season, giving us all nothing to look forward too; thing is, im not sure what to think about Julio from Bama. I bet we draft that guy!!! Some one new to run around in front of Mcnabb. What a thrill however the results are unknown. Anyone think that he is too fast for Donovan????

I'm not going to bet that he is gone.
Dropping down to 17, picking up Pouncey, I'd be all for that

I'd take a roster of 53 guys like that over having a single Patrick Ramsey on the roster

I'm not sure that we'd be able to do this BUT the free agency period looks like being delayed and NE does have a lot of picks and even though they finished 14-2 it seems to most NFL guys like they have some needs and a WR like Jones might entice Bill to trade up
I'm really for this FO to add to the draft picks and if they are interested in any free agents I hope they bring in a bunch of young guys
I'd prefer to get a bunch of young players in here and have this group coach them up - I would also hope they might develop together over the next few years so that we have a much better young team than a bunch of old stars that don't have much left and are really just looking for a paycheck and not helping this franchise get back to having fun on the field again
the problem is that Snyder might not be very patient and these guys certainly did not distinguish themselves with what they've done since they came in

That's not Billy B's MO and we both know it. They don't put a value on players with actual TALENT. They prefer robots who fit into their system like interchangable parts and who can be cheaply and easily replaced when they've outlived their usefulness.
SkinsJock wrote:I'm really for this FO to add to the draft picks and if they are interested in any free agents I hope they bring in a bunch of young guys
I will have to disagree. I have no great interest in rookies and unproven young players.

I have no faith that this group can "coach them up" at all. They have not proven any ability to get anything out of players with proven talent, nevermind unproven young players.
SkinsJock wrote:the problem is that Snyder might not be very patient and these guys certainly did not distinguish themselves with what they've done since they came in
I would certainly hope these guys are on a very short leash. Especially after last season.

regardless of who is in charge here - this franchise has shown the folly of what happens when you just bring in players based on what they have done and not based on the best interests of who is here and what is needed to complement both the other players and the sytems installed on both offense and defense
I could care less who is the HC or in charge of acquiring players - I just hope that the next few years see this franchise find a way to increase the number of picks we have in each draft and only bring in free agents who have not been in the NFL for very long at all
any franchise that has tried to be successful by bringing in older free agents and getting away from building through the draft has no chance at all

Then here's to hoping we have no chance at all because I'd rather LOSE the right way than Win the wrong way.

that kind of logic reminds me of the mother watching a parade in which her son was the only one out of step with the rest and she wondered why everybody else was "out of step" - you are entitled to think whatever you want here but it seems patently obvious that you are way "out of step" with the rest of us
we might not make this deal but I sure hope this FO makes whatever moves are necessary to ensure we are one of the youngest franchises in the NFL as quickly as possible

Thanks for the update.. I saw the mock draft at nfl network . They say, chances are Rex Grossman will be tossin it around and have us taking julio .
