Wow, I know Buchanon had his moments where he was terrible (like when he got benched), but I remember he had some decent games. I actually remember twicce BMitch praised him on Post Game Live.

Maybe I was watching someone else or something because I did not think he was as bad as people on here are saying. Anyway, Im all for giving Banks a chance at CB2, let Buchanon/Westbrook battle it out for nickle spot. I think CB will be addressed in the 2012 draft early(unless the world has ended)

Our bigest need on D is NT. Unless we fix that, the D will struggle.

Yes, and the options are few. Phil Taylor and Stephen Paea are the only true stud NT's in the draft (sure there might be a diamond in the rough but these two are the only can't miss types). Both of these guys are projected 2nd rounders with Taylor making some late first round mocks. Because it would be considered a wrong move to pick either of these guys at #10, we could miss out on them. Now, I see why we wanted to take a look at Shaun Rodgers and Kris Jenkins.

I heard that Taylor and Paea are two different types of NT's. Taylor is a space eater - ties up blockers and stuffs the run. Paea can get after the passer and can hold his own agaisnt the run. Which type is Shanny after?

I know people say Paea is a NT, but sorry Im not buying it. He is like 300 lbs....sure he is strong as a bull, but at only 300 lbs, Im thinking more a DE or a rotational player like Ngata in Bmore. Ngata is listed as a NT, even though he rarely plays there.

Taylor IMO is the only TRUE NT who could start right away. Like you said maybe a hidden guy later, but I think Paea is more of a Ngata type, mainly playing DE

Since Haslett, as the former Rams DC, felt that the 296 pound Carriker coming out of Nebraska could play NT, you can bet he would have no problem seeing Paea at 300 pounds playing nose.

Like the Redskins’ Brian Orakpo in 2009, Carriker was the 13th overall pick to the Rams in 2007, a year in which he had 2 sacks. The 6’6”, 296 lbs. player started every game as a rookie at nose tackle. In 2008, he played in 15 games and started nine but missed the 2009 season with a shoulder injury.

*sigh* a "Nose" tackle in certain 4-3 alignments, like that used by the Rams in Haslet's tenure, is a LOT different than the nose tackle in a 3-4 defense.

The idea of someone 300 lbs as a 3-4 nose tackle in the NFL is patently absurd.

Thanks you Skinsfan, the idea of Paea as a NT is not appealing to me. Phil Taylor is the only guy in the early rounds who I would consider a NT. Now Paea as a 3-4 DE, awesome. But not a NT. Like I said earlier, I see Paea as a Ngata type player, who moves around alot. Ngata is considered a NT, but theres no way he would play NT for more then 15% of the snaps. He usually is a LDE.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I dont think the Rams used a 3-4 under Haslett. I think they were a 4-3 base, with packages of 3-4. Carriker as a DT in a 4-3 is miles away from a NT in a 3-4. And him playing NT in a 3-4 package 5x a game is far different then him being an every down NT. If you think of all the successful TRUE 3-4 NTs (Wilfork, Raji, Jenkins, Hampton) they are all 340+. Its rare to find a 300 lb NT whose worth a crap.

Maybe Football News now is wrong, but let's see if Adam Carriker said that he played nose tackle:

“I’ll never forget my rookie year,” Carriker said. “I would play nose tackle, right and left end. I would play it all. In one drive against San Francisco, I played every single position. I didn’t have a lot of time to think, but I thought I did it pretty well.”

If Adam says he played nose tackle then I wouldn't say he "never" did.

Second source says that he did play nose tackle so again, I wouldn't say "never."

Now, I will concede this, Adam was NOT a nose tackle just because he played there.

I will also concede that Haslett used multiple sets: 4-3 and 3-4 with the 4-3 as the base which was opposite of here where we used multiple sets with the 3-4 being the base.

With all that being said your points are well taken, I do stand partially corrected and enhanced my football knowledge a little bit more.
