You forgot the number one reason we are losing close games.
Turnovers!
The #2 reason is poor execution by the players.
Everything you said falls in line after the first two!

We'll win this game because we get TWO critical players back this week: Sellers and Thomas. Not having Sellers was what cost us the game on Sunday. No running game = no win.

I think we play OK in the first half and are bad in the second. The Bears pull away. As I said this is the LAST time (last weekend was the first ever) I pick against us. I just don't think we're going to be up for this. I hope I'm wrong.

Most here feel it's all on Gibbs and bad coaching/playcalling from Saunders and Williams but I have a feeling that if the players hold onto the ball and the execution (of those terrible coaches' game plans) improves there will be a number of "fans" who will say well its' about time Gibbs and co got their stuff together
Fact is the players need to play better - sure there has been some bad/terrible coaching but the main reason we are losing has been the players not doing what they are capable of. Turnovers and missed assignments are not Gibbs fault.

I hate to admit it, but since I have finally lost my faith, I think the Bears take this one from us in the second half.
The reason we go to all of those running plays in the second half is to try to avoid turnovers, but we wind up turning it over as a punt anyway.
I don't even see this as being as close as the Bills game...
(man, that game crushed me)
They may even take this from us in the first quarter. We can't avoid kicking off to Hester. I don't think Suisham can get the ball into the endzone, much less through it for the touchback. That leaves us with the option of kicking it to Hester and risking a touchdown. Kicking it out of bounds and giving them the ball on the 40, or squibbing it, which will most likely be what we do, and they still get the ball around the 40-45.
Defense will play tight for the most part, but will give up key plays because we won't blitz.
And, to top it off, everyone is going to be exhausted, and ill prepared for this game.
I hope I'm wrong, but I'm reasonably sure I'm not far off.

Bears ain't gonna do jack.. ya'll hear me? What ya'll mean the Bears will win the second half of the game? Besides us shooting ourselves in the foot, what have the Bears did so great during their second halves of games? Nothing. As a matter of fact, didn't the Gnats come back and beat them in the second half? I know your all gonna say we lose games in the second half but with Rex at QB, I'm thinking if we blitz him continuously he'll make the mistakes in our favor and we WILL capitalize on them.
Keep the faith my bruthas & sistas!!!

Why was everyone so surprised or shocked that we lost to the Bills. The Bills have a better record than the Bears. They have been playing better than the Bears. Their rookie QB is 4-1 as a starter and made a BIG TIME throw to win the game for his team, while our young QB (who has yet to reach .500 as a starter) fumbled the ball and threw a pick when the game was on the line. Their young QB made plays, ours made mistakes!
Now, for the Bears. They're QB'ed by Major Mistake, Wrecks Grossman and hopefully he makes more mistakes than Campbell does!
Note to Campbell. It's OK to throw the ball away or take a sack. Protect the ball and your self. If the team had ran every down after CP got his TD we would have won the game.

Yes, focusing exclusively on a part of the offense that hadn't worked well all day for the majority of the second half is clearly the path they should have chosen. Come on man, that's totally insupportable.

Don't forget we're getting Sellars back for this game too, that'll definitely help against that strong defense Chicago has.

The Sean Taylor funeral is behind them, Sellers and Thomas should be back and there is definatly no tommarrow for this team, Its playoff football from here to the Superbowl. I predict a 60 minute all out performance from everybody. The ten days off will be appealling to the whole organization before 2 very important road games.
Redskins 23
Bears 14

It's not that the Bears are that great, it's just that we seem to go into our games with our guns aimed at our feet.
skinsfan#33 wrote:

I'm not surprised that we lost. It's how we lost.
If we had been blown out, then I could justify it as the players didn't have their heads in the game, or they didn't have enough time to practice, or get ready, but to lose by 1 point, in the last few minutes after having a half-time lead...it was the same loss that we have had all year with the exception of the Patriots. 'Skins up at the half, 'Skins lose at the end.

It's not even just our QB though. We went to a prevent offense in the second half trying more to defend a 5 point lead, than increase it. We would have had the same result calling three kneel downs and punting on every drive in the second half. Jason's interception wasn't much worse starting field position than our punting was getting us, it just cost us the amount of time it would've taken until we punted...again.

You and I are sharing the same level of optimism here, but isn't that sad? That we should have to hope our QB makes fewer mistakes than one of the most mistake-prone QB's in the league?

Campbell actually usually is pretty good about throwing the ball away (or at least he was earlier in the season, I haven't seen him do it much lately). The last sack he took cost him 2-points.
We tried running the ball a lot in the second half vs. the Bills. Far more than we tried to throw, and it wasn't working.
Don't get me wrong Skinsfan33. I'm not attacking you. I'm just expressing my level of frustration here. I don't have the answers, I can't tell you what's broken here, but I know that what we are doing isn't working.
We've had the worst luck imaginable this year. Hamstrings and groin injuries (ever Taylor was hit in the groin), when something does go right, something else goes wrong to nullify it.
Defense comes out strong this year, and the offense can't get it done. Offense starts to click and the defense falls apart. Just as a player really starts to do well he gets hurt.
It just feels like we are cursed.

Portis ran 25 times for 50 yards and a long of 6, he couldnt get anything going, I dont know what Betts had but it wasnt much better. We needed more passes on 2nd and 3rd down,

ey is the man on 3rd downs, but if we're leading at halftime he usually doesnt touch the ball.
I watch the Redskins only when they are on t.v. and still can predict almost every play. It can't be hard for the opposing team to know what will be called after studying some of this seasons games. They KNOW we are going to try and run the ball after leading at halftime! Lets hit them with some screens or quick passes on 2nd and 3rd, seems how obviously J.C. isnt trusted to throw for anything more after the half.
When J.C. drops back and throws quickly he usually hits his target and picks up some yards (usually in the first half.) When J.C. drops back and takes a few seconds more to throw the ball....I cringe because I know a sack/fumble/interception is coming.

Exactly my thought. They play a game on Sunday, fly to Miami for ST's funeral and then get back with a couple days after an emotional funeral for a 24 year old kid's pointless death, they wanted some stuff that probably wouldn't have at the most supported them a few months. And then play the Bears? I don't see it.

Anthony Adams (DT) is out for teh Bears and Darwin Walker and Tommie Harris have been banged up all season. CP should be able to run for about 3 miles on Thursday - Bears run D has been non-existant all season long.

I don't think the Skins have half the pass rush the Gnats have and, while Rex was sacked 6 times, he didn't fumble or gice up a pick. He actually handled it pretty well considering. He's played well since coming back from being benched.

trust me man, you could line Joe Bugel up on the O-line and still run over the top of us.

I had not being paying attention to the Bears D this year but they are having some issues on D apparently
I was just looking at the NFC defensive stats and the Vikings are unbelievable - they are the best at stopping the run but hopeless against the pass

what's up with that?

How's the weather looking? Was -8F here this morning - love seeing Football played in that kinda weather. It just adds to the enjoyment for me for some reason.

Cold, but not that cold, low 28, and clear early with clouds coming in overnight is what they're saying. Too bad they didn't play last night in the snow. This is real football weather. Should be a great game that will be won or lost in the trenches.

They went 3 & out almost every possession after that. If they had not thrown anymore, Campbell would not have fumbled or threw the pick. Skins win without those gaffs.
You're right my guess about what would have happened is unsupportable, because all kinds of things could have happened, but I say if they had just ran every down they would have won. And I know that would have most likely meant 3 and out, but hey, that is just about what happened anyhow. The difference is the Bills don't get six more points off of turn overs.

Yep, I have gone from 'the horror...the horror...' to really looking forward to this game.
For what it is worth, I am picking the Redskins to win.
As an aside, Devin Hester supposedly has plans for some kind of tribute to #21 tonight yet. No word yet on whether it is something uniform related or something physical he plans to do (presuming Suisham and Frost kick to him)

Maybe he'll dive into the endzone from the 5 yard line like ST did against the Eagles....
