Smizzy in regards to your comment "We cant just expect him to do whats best for the skins...". UM yes we can. He is under contract and whether he likes it or not we are going to do what is best for the team and not what is best for his family. Believe me there are people who do just fine with what he will be paid as he is sitting on the bench.

"Did Drew Brees have his agent request a trade, and state that he was not a happy camper when Doug Flutie replaced him midway through last season?"
That is a completley different scenario. But I will humor you anyway.
First of all, Doug Flutie is by no means a long-term solution. While Brunell could conceivably start for two or three more years, Flutie will be lucky to be in the league this year.
Second of all, if Brees asked for a trade, would anyone want him? There is active interest for Ramsey, while there is none for Brees.
Finally, trading quarterbacks midseason doesn't happen, if Brees had requested a trade, everyone would have pointed and laughed.
I also see you neglected to answer my question. Are you still thinking about your answer?

uh, hello? Mark Brunell is not exactly a long term solution either. He's a veteran with a couple years left maximum. Long term? I don't think so!!!

This is not a debate between the skins and ramseys contract it s about his character...Im not saying its 100% correct to fell this way,if indeed this is the way he feels...but if it is... you can't " expect" him to abide by the rules of his contract when every single pro athlete is his position has demanded out...You have to HOPE he does....Thats all.

so why shouldn't he want to go there? If I was Ramsey, I would really want to go to Miami, where he could be the #1 starter for a team that went 10-6 last year. What's wrong with that?
I presume this is the question(s) you're referring to. If so, the answer is simple: Because he's under contract to the Redskins. PERIOD!! People in hell want Ice Water, but they're not gonna get it!

No,but he walks in and is better than ramsey today...so he should be where ever Joe "HOF" Gibbs says he should be.

This was the question:
If you were Ramsey, which situation would you choose:
1. Compete with Mark Brunell for the starting job of the 5-11 Redskins.
-or-
2. Compete with Jay Fiedler for the starting job of the 10-6 Dolphins.
I KNOW this isn't a real option, he's under contract, and he's not going anywhere, but we are discussing whether or not Ramsey's feelings are valid. Ramsey thought the Redskins might be interested in trading him, so he asked his agent to inquire about it. Understand?

Please read my posts more carefully. I said:
"While Brunell could conceivably start for two or three more years, Flutie will be lucky to be in the league this year."
There is a difference...

Oh. O.K. I didn't realize that was the qeustion. That's an even easier question.
The answer is: Whatever Coach Gibbs tells me to do!

Spurrier, let me chew on this a little.
Ramsey to Miami...
PROS-
Would likely be starter. Big, bruiser of a RB in Williams. Solide passing game including an old buddy named Darrius. More money, closer to home/Alma Mater (Louisiana, TulaneU.)
Great fishing. Less sacks behind a solid O-Line. No snow.
CONS-
Norval is gone. New system in place for everybody. Mosquito bites in December. New guy again. Coach on hot seat. Constantly compared to Marino.
I don't know, Steve-O. I think I'd go, if I were Patches and the opportunity was there. My "CONS" are all weak, aren't they ? Maybe I don't know enough about Miami. It's all on the fly, you know.
Still, it's academic discussion only. He don't go 'til Joe say he go, no ?

The thing that I keep hearing, is that if Ramsey is not traded, he and his agent will make a big stink and basically force our Skins' hand into dealing him. I have liked Ramsey from day 1, and I say suck it up and compete. I can understand fully Ramsey wants to start, well prove you are the man by showing you can beat a 34 year old "over the hill"

player. If he dosen't at least welcome the competition, then Ramsey will be looked at as nothing more than a crybaby.

That is NOT the case. Ramsey mearly asked his agent to inquire about the possibility of a trade.
"If he dosen't at least welcome the competition, then Ramsey will be looked at as nothing more than a crybaby."
I'm not even going to respond to this. Read the whole thread, and if you STILL agree with that assesment, well, that just makes me depressed...

I'm not saying he is a crybaby, i'm just saying that his agent's comments are causing too much of a distraction right now. Yes, i believe he is a good QB and I have hoped he would be with us until he retires, but if he thinks he's too good to at least show he is a fierce competetor under a HOF coach, like we all believe he is, then maybe he should go somewhere he dosen't feel he has to compete. Ramsey will be just fine. Remember that he has two more years on his contract and if he wants to play at all in those two years than he better show that he is willing to take the job from Brunell. Because if he is sitting on the bench in two years people outside of Washington wont even remember who Patrick Ramsey is.
The problem is the implicit threat...

The problem is the implicit threat that Sexton can make (don't know that he has or that he will, just saying he could) that says "if you don't do what my client and I want then just go ahead and try getting Chris Samuels, another one of my clients, to renegotiate his contract again and just try to sign Kleinsasser, another one of my clients."
I don't blame Ramsey for that and I hope the 'Skins find some way to keep him happy and that Joe can really make him understand that at the worst it is an opportunity to learn some of the things he needs to from an excellent veteran.
How much better off was Chad Pennington sitting behind Testaverde instead of playing right away. I believe he benefited immeasurably and so can Patrick Ramsey and I hope he is able to see that or has already seen it. He may already recognize that and we just haven't heard from him.
Oh, and the methods agents use to get things that their clients want aren't always the methods the clients would use themselves. For example, Patrick may have just told Sexton that he is very unhappy about the 'Skins bringing in Brunell and is uncomfortable about the idea that Brunell is making so much money and how can the 'Skins possibly let Brunell sit on the bench while paying him so much. Sexton might be the one then making the trade noise in an effort to help get the situation clarified and in the news for the benefit of his client.
Before I indict either Sexton or Ramsey I think I'll wait to see what happens

gibbs has already said he is not gonna trade ramsey...he's staying,if he did'nt complain and just accepted the coach's decision i would be more worried than i currently am.

if sexton did this, it would make other teams and players second guess him. other teams will hesitate to sign his clients in the future, if they see some BS like that from sexton. eventually he'll play himself out of a job. he's trying to play hardball with this right now, but it's a poker game, as soon as snyder raises the ante, and calls the hand, sexton will fold and weasle away for a while.

pretty soon sexton would be SOL if he did that.the players have a union based on trust, the owners is based on money and respect.
which would you choose???

Whether its Ramsey or his agent..someone needs to shut up the trade talk..Ramsey is not a proven QB yet, don't get me wrong, he is going to be great, but as for now, in his 3rd season, he hasn't proven himself enough to be a sure shot starter againt a veteran...Bottom line is Ramsey IS NOT exempt from competition!!

Many years ago, a young hotshot quarterback was obtained by George Allen by trade. This young quarterback had demonstrated considerable talent, and had, in fact, started at the professional level. When he arrived, he told Coach Allen that he wanted playing time... he didn't care how... If Coach wanted him to hold for kicks, he would... (and he did). If Coach wanted him to field punts, he would (and he did). If Coach wanted him to run pass routes, he would (and he did). He went on to become the first Redskin QB to win a Superbowl.
I know that Ramsey is simply trying to play the shrewd businessman right now, but wouldn't it be refreshing to hear him say... "Coach, just bring it on... I just want to play"?
