How about you tell me how many #1 WRs that are a staple of the offense that are out returning punts? Is Marvin Harrison going to return punts this week? Galloway? C Johnson? Steve Smith? Who's the 2nd WR behind Steve Smith? Can you see Carolina winning without Smith and Proehl leading them past teams?

No guts no glory? No Santana no win.

LOL...steve smith returns punts EVERY WEEK for the panthers. there goes that argument.

Well I dont watch the panthers so I was wrong. But their WR depth is 3 times better than ours. How about the rest of the people I named?
Who do you see filling Santanas shoes if he gets hurt?
You're not proving the fact that its worth the risk. When Santana has returned punts he hasn't done anything with it while here. Why? Our blocking is inconsistent. Its a waste for now.

yeah, the panthers are so deep at WR...LOL. Smith had the best year of ANY wide reciever and yet the panther feel he is worth the "risk". i feel the same way about santana and the skins. what "facts" do you want me to provide? you provided the biggest "fact" out there:

Prohel is better than any other WR we have on our roster imo. Well Im glad they're taking the risk and not us. I seriously doubt we'll see Moss anywhere near a punt against Tampa.

So what, I was wrong about the Panthers. Thats one out of 3 or so teams I named. There are teams with greater depth than the Panthers who dont use not only their #1 WR but ONLY WR at KR. Maybe the Panthers are just dumb and everyone else has it right? lol

No, Id love to see our WRs get in the game more, Ive been screaming about it but it doesn't happen. Our 3rd leader in receptions is CP. I think #2 is Cooley follwing behind Santana Moss at #1. None of our WRs are anywhere to be seen. Why? Im not sure.

Moss is our number one receiver and the whole league knows it when teams double cover him it opens up routes for CP and Cooley. Having a #2 receiver would be great but it hasn't hurt us so far (every team playing this weekend it's 1 and done - we are all even). It's the playoffs and Gibbs calls games on a whole different level this time of year. I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised.

No, surferskins said no guts no glory, I said "no Moss no win".
I dont know if its Gibbs. The inclusions of our other WRs has been so nonexistant that I felt that it had to be the play calling... Im not so sure maybe they aren't getting open. Maybe Mark just won't wait/throw to them regardless. We need to better oursevles and spread the defense thin.

I tend to agree with the guys over at extremeskins who basically feel the same as me in regards to twin thread you made there.
Plus doesn't Santana have a history of getting nicked up a lot? Why risk that when he's our only playmaker at WR.

That was exactly what I was thinking of. That is my first really vivid football memory. I just remember being blown away when he hurdled the Bear defender, that was truly amazing.

I guarantee that if we need it Moss will return a punt. Heck, he already returned a couple this year in games that meant a lot less.

I only put Moss back there if we are losing and were in the 2nd half. I know Minnesota did use Rany Moss on the occasional punt return to give them a lift.............

here is a solution that should please everyone, and would probably have a GOOD chance of working:

they SHOULD send santana out to field a kick...

and he should hand it off on a reverse. there is little danger of him getting hurt since he shouldn't be tackled, and having him out there catching it would probably serve as a spectacular decoy.

of course that might need to be on a kickoff return instead of a punt return, to have enough time to set up the reverse. but it still seems like a good solution/option to me.

Gibbs will put Thrash back there before Moss. Thrash has no chance of returning a kick unless theres nobody else on the field but he wont make dumb decisions.

Antonio almost caughed it up that would have been huge. Moss back there is a risk only worth taking if we really really really need a touchdown.

Agreed. Unless there's some kind of emergency, I'd like to think we'd keep Moss fresh for his fulltime gig. I mean, I know that we emphasize ST's, and that fulltimers from a lot of positions are asked to play...and I have no qualms about putting him on the "hands" team...but his job is to run 75 yards up the field as often as possible, and I think we need to keep him fresh.
I don't coach this team, though.

No you're right and thats why we haven't seen Moss returning anything. Itd be retarded to stick him back there and have him tired when our offense has enough problems as it is.

Put Thrash back there because Moronio Brown can't think under pressure. Sob story or not, you gotta do your job.

If the Redskins are trailing Seattle by a field goal in the final quarter next weekend, and the 'hawks have to punt, I'd certainly want Moss back there to field punts for the rest of the game. But not before.

It's definitely worth the risk if we need a big play, but not before. Like CLL says, you lose Moss in the first quarter, and that's 50% of an already patchy offence going down the pan.

I remember the Darrell Green return against Chicago (one of my top five Redskin memories), but I don't recall him being put back there for every punt return in every playoff game. I'm sure somebody will correct me if he was though.

What I'd really like to see in the draft this year, is for the Redskins to draft the best punt returning cornerback or wide receiver they can find to return punts and kickoffs. Preferrably one that can actually stand up, which seems to give Brown some problems.

I watched the drop...he sighted that ball all the way until the catch was almost imminent, then he look up to "scan the field" for his runback and saw a pirate getting ready to make him walk the plank. Gar !

I wouldn't mind him being there in extreme situations.

However im 100% AGAINST him being back there all the time.

The screamers on Special Teams are sometimes guys who are lobbying for playing time. I think they'd try to make a name for themselves by taking out Moss.
I fully expect that somebody will give me the  for this comment.

Heck no, just the same person who said I was dumb for saying it.
You're absolutely right.

I dont know how you guys think that this offense could survive if he went down. He has avoided injury all year, the boy is brittle.

Yeah he carried the team yesterday with his 2 catches for 18 yards. To put Moss back there just to put him back there would be stupid, but if the right situation came up you can't not put him back there out of fear he'll get hurt. Players get hurt in warmups and someone has to step up, or coaches make adjustments. We had 41 yards passing in a playoff game that we won. That should tell you that this is a team, and somebody - some unit - some component of the Redskins will step up if needed. Moss could also step up with a game changing Punt return if he is asked to, I doubt he'd think twice about it.

As long as he is a option he is a weapon. In every battle every weapon in your arsenal isn't needed.
