I live in DC and listen to Sportstalk980 daily. For what it's worth, Thom Lovero & Kevin Sheean are opinion guys who have no track record of predicting or knowing what the team is really thinking or doing. Thom isn't even a fan of the team. He's a relic baseball writer transplant who is just a talking head. I've never heard them break any news. They react to it, just like us.

The news in D.C. is broken by Shefter now with LaCanfora still having some inside scoops. The exit of Vinny has cut off any reliable, local sources with an "in" to Redskins park.

If you want to know what we're doing, listen to Adam Shefter closely, followed by LaCanfora. Jason Reid is a distant, wayyy distant, way wayyyyy distant option. I'd put Chris Russell & Theismann over him. Russell is okay but he fashions himself a football guy/journalist leaving him mediocre at both jobs. He'll crap out a nugget of info here and there from one of the players that he talks to.

BTW - If you want to hear someone bash the SKins routinely with little to no substance, I'd suggest Sally Jenkins. If you want to hear some geek dissect meaningless numbers as if football is Suduko--might I suggest Mike Wise.

D.C. lacks journalists and is overpopulated by talking heads like Kornheiser, Wilbon, Sheean, Lovero,

John Keim at the Washington Examiner is pretty good.

I like Grant Paulsen quite a bit. Not really a news breaking guy, but his opinions seem to be on target more often than not. I guess he gets to talk directly to the players.

Yup. Most of the 980 lineup is pretty terrible.

980 needs a makeover. Kornholer is obnoxious. He's like a wannabe, Larry David sans the talent and genius. Just a dry hack that has a giggle gaggle cackling at every dull story he tells. Next up, the Sports Fix. Redskins at 1 is the highlight because they actually try to break news. I like Doc Walker on the JT show, but Thompson talks too much about basketball and college sports for me. The Sports Fix is a douche magnet. It's what I imagine Glenn Beck would listen to on the ride home. Czabe is actually kind of funny though.

Yeah, they pretty much suck. We don't have guys who are local, knowldgeable, blue collar guys who are good with facts. Our best guys are Sonny & Sam and they just call games. The guys who know football and tell it like it is are B Mitch & Lavar, but they've alienated Snyder so much that they have ZERO access.

Doc Walker is all we got who is worth his weight. I'd love to hear Gary Clark on the radio, he had personality. Or if Mark Schlereth stayed in DC. Riggins is such a rebel he's essentially a fan with an opinion rather than any real info. Maybe ey will save the local market when he's done.

If they franchise Flynn and nobody wants to trade a 1st for him, then they're on the hook to pay 2 QBs top 10 money. Risky. Possible, but risky.

Gregg Jennings will get the tag before Flynn. If Flynn gets the tag "by rule he can't be traded. If Jennings doesn't get tagged he'll get paid somewhere else.

If you had to choose between your starting WR (avg 1000 yds per season) or your backup QB who only plays when the starter is rested.

Couldn't agree with you more. I don't know what the hell happened to Kornheiser because this wasn't always the case. Seems like since the success at ESPN and MNF, he has really gone downhill. His radio show is unbearable. Un-listenable. I'll take Mike Wise over him at the same time any day, and that is saying something I know.

First off there are no stupid questions...

Second, I got my Packers mixed up (I'm Skins fan... go figure). Jennings is under contract for next year.

Flynn still won't be 1st in line for the tag. TE Jermichael Finley is much more worthy, and more likely than Flynn.

why do you say Greg gets the franchise before Flynn?

Finley (not Jennings) will be a bigger lost to the team as a high production player versus a backup that might be worth a pick or two.

If they tag Flynn they are committing the average of the top 5 players at that position or about $14.4M in cap money, this will Flynn from going out and signing with the highest bidder. The leagues rules say you can't tag and trade a player but it happens all the time (see Matt Cassel to K.C.). The norm is to work out a deal less than the price of the tag or trade the player to another team after they have worked out their old deal. Most players don't like the tag but if Flynn is tagged he can sign it and know he'll get $14M+ averaging 1 start per year and become a FA nxt year.

Green Bay on the other hand can tag Jermichael Finley who starts and plays every week for $5.4M (less than ey's 2012 cap hit) and hope he signs it. (Jennings Tag number would have been $9.4M).

If they tag Flynn that's money they can't offer Finley weather Flynn signs the tag or not.

I believe Cleveland has also said they are not interested in going after Flynn. If we're not able to get Flynn, I still say we need to acquire a FA to at least be the backup and/or transition starter for the first couple of games next year.

If this report/rumor is true, then it's going to cost a lot more than the value chart says to trade up for RG3. This is what I said all along was my reasoning for not wanting to do it.

It also means that the market for that 2nd pick is going up already. Either way, it's not looking like he will fall to us. And, it's looking like someone will have to sweeten the deal to persuade the Rams to choose their offer over what the Browns can package together.

If the Browns move up to #2 and the Rams can (i) still pick in the Top 5, and get that second first round pick this year? That already spells FLEECE if anyone else wants to swoop in with an offer.

The possibility also exists the Redskins make a draft day trade for a veteran -- say, Peyton Manning.

it's not 'hopefully' - NEITHER Grossman or Beck will be starting - END OF THAT deal - guaranteed

I'll give you one other FACT - NOBODY from the FO or the franchise is going to give out ANY information about the draft BEFORE the draft

Not any of the millions of NFL, Redskins Insider, National Sports wires, or Fan Site bloggers but we're talking about a blog in the Washingtonian by Carol Ross Joynt. The closest thing to a sports story that she's posted before this was about the ESPN Zone auction in Va., that's her beat... parties and politics.




Second thing to not think about is, we don't know who it was that overheard this breaking news and why it was being discussed.




Third we're talking about Dennis Greene who she tagged has the "Washington Redskins president of operations". That should be Washington Redskins President of Business Operations... or the guy in charge of selling suites as a cost effective investment for "the Danny"



and Finally... after the story took off like a rocket, she went back and added one more sentence.

It read:
Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie had this comment: "We have not named our 2012 starting QB."




I'm betting Wyllie spends more time with the President of Football Operations than Greene does

Of course the starting QB for opening day has been chosen. IT's RGIII - that's Rex Grossman, The Third Year, that is!
