agreed - now that Shanahan is here the next move is to try and get the rest of the coaching staff into place and then come up with a plan - we have many talented players but we need to start adding players that both suit the plan and who can play with the guys we already have

hopefully Snyder's approach of just adding the star attraction will cease and we can hopefully get a team together here for the first time in ages

As for the draft, oline might not even be an option for us with the 4th pick. I've seen several mocks that have the Lions and/or the Bucs taking Okung since both of those teams need oline help. I think it's pretty well established that Okung is the only real top 5 worthy lineman in the draft so we might have to explore trading down if we are dead-set on oline in the first round.

By the time the draft unfolds there is a good chance that Anthony Davis will surpass Okung anyway. They will both be top 10 picks.

The last thing we need to do is spend a top 5 pick on an inconsistent player with character concerns. This year alone he was demoted to second team for failing to make his weight (he's gotten out of shape several times while at Rutgers) and suspended a game for being late to team functions. In 2008 he was suspended a game for violating team rules.

You guys are going on and on about anything BUT the Redskins having the 4th overall pick in the draft.

The staff are trying to be more understanding of threads going off topic, but you guys are really just getting way too lazy, and pushing things too far.

PLEASE KEEP THREADS ON TOPIC.

This thread isn't about JC, it's about the Redskins 4th overall pick.

Discuss.

Jason Campbell sucks. Sorry, couldn't help myself

We have to sort out the OL, be it through draft or FA , preferably both. We cant rely on Samuels coming back, even if he did how many games do you think he would last.

We need a LT as the no 1 priority.

I dont like the idea of Bradford being drafted, he looks a bit fragile to me , I'd rather get someone like favre in for a year, so we can concentrate on getting the OL sorted , then next year go for a QB , Id even agree to JC staying another year if he could be signed cheaply.

Very different makeup in these threads than before......

.....back on topic. Shanahan will want to groom a young QB. I don't think that anyone would think that's not going to happen but I am not sure that either of them, Mike or Kyle are going to see the value in a 1st round qb with such a porous offensive line.

I think we trade down. If we can move down and pick up a decent 2nd rounder or a bad teams 2011 1st rounder, I pull the trigger. Even if Okung is still there. I then either trade down again, if the OL prospects aren't worth the pick, or pick up all OLine in the first 3-4 rounds. I would also trade a few players like LL for extra draft picks if we can get decent value for them. In my mind, this draft is all about building our offensive line. Shanny will keep JC.

As has been proven many times in the past including when Rypien won the superbowl, if you have a good defense and a good offensive line, an average QB can win the superbowl. Heck, Eli "I buckle under pressure" beat arguably the best team ever to win the superbowl. He did it with luck and a seriously crazy defense. We have the starting blocks to that defense. We need the offensive line....

With all the NEEDS on this team trading down should be the first option... as long as "the Danny" has no input.

You're right. But with the guarenteed money top 5 picks are getting nowadays, no one is trading out of the top 5 anymore. Except for the Jets trading for Sanchez last year, the previous time a top 5 pick got traded was the Eli Manning trade in 2004. Maybe someone will fall in love with Bradford or Clausen, and we'll get lucky?

We don't need to be lucky. Clausen and Suh will go one and two and Okung will be there at 4.

Horse, I agree with your 1st 2 picks as Suh and Clausen, but the team Im worried about is Bucs at 3. I see Rams drafting Clausen, Lions CANT pass on Suh, Bucs could grab Okung. They also could go different ways on defense (McCoy, Berry,Hadden). All this speculation is meaningless until the combine.

Okung, Williams, Davis... those guys are elite LT's worth a top 5 pick. So is Sam Bradford...

Then again, if the team does their due diligence and they determine that there's some solid late 1st round talent, or that they want a 2nd round QB (like Snead if the declares, Tebow, McCoy, Pike, etc.) maybe they will trade down. It's such a tricky situation... but personally I'd like to take the safe pick of Okung or Davis.

we know it's not easy to trade out of these top 5 picks but with what is happening with the CBA who knows what might happen

I think all teams that have so many areas of need (which is true for a lot of teams) would like to add draft picks - having 4 or 5 picks in the top 100 is a key to building depth - we now have the guys in place that will hopefully be able to add more players that will help this franchise through the draft and free agency, but, because our primary issue concerns the offensive line, this will not be fixed in the near term - these guys will have a plan and use that as their guide

we are in the interesting position where we could get a future great QB or a future great LT - thankfully we no longer have Snyder & Cerrato et al, making the decisions

I’m trading down getting as many picks as I can…I’m using 2010 as an evaluation year , because they will be no football in 2011 so I will have much time to look at film of players in our system and make decisions on who I want to keep.

I don't think a lockout makes any sense. Football is the most popular sport in America and the players and owners seem close on terms. Why would they lock out? It nearly killed hockey (nearly?) and it just seems like bad business not to come to a deal. The Players are okay with the cap, the players want a cap, the players want a rookie cap, the owners want a rookie cap, I mean, locking out would be incredibly dangerous.

Williams is actually projected more as a RT than a LT and is hardly "elite".

I think Iupati goes in the late 1st round to a team like the Steelers who are losing a good Guard to FA. He is the top ranked Guard in the country so thinking he would last to us is wishful thinking. However I do LOVE where your head is at. LT 1st round, RG 2nd round. They should be long term starters for years to come. Try to pick up a RT in FA or stick Levi Jones over there and wish for the best. Replace Rabach next yr and keep Dockery....

LT - 1st Rounder
LG - Dockery
Center - Rabach (replaced in 2011 draft)
RG - 2nd ROunder
RT - Levi Jones or Free Agent Signing

Someone to watch is Ted Larsen from NC State. Two year starter at Center after moving from the defensive side of the ball. Trained under Tom O'Brien who's known for grooming linemen. I think that Larsen now is ranked about the 3-5th best center in the draft. He was very healthy and has above average feet.

Being an NC State fan, I would love to see him come in for depth and learn from Rabach who all is all has been a pretty good center. Not the best, but more the adequate.

I don't think that Levi Jones is going to stick around to move to RT. He's a big attitude guy based off the few interviews I've seen on Comcast and I think I remember reading somewhere that he retired because being asked to play RT was a demotion and he felt he was better than that.

They are a lot closer than you think, a lockout hurts everyone, and they have an entire year and a half to iron out the details. Mark my words. We will have football in 2012.*

I think we'll play in 2012 as well not 2011. Did you know that owners will make more money in a lockout year than if they played the games??

In one year, yes... the owners would probably make more money in merchandising with no overhead than they would with the games being played... and yet, football will absolutely take a big hit from a lockout.

Look, it's the most popular sport in America, we watch every weekend and we schedule our days around it. Football won't die like hockey if the owners lock out the players... but it will lose a ton of ground. College Football will gain a lot of fringe fans of the NFL and just like how baseball was the most popular sport in the early 90's it lost significant ground with a strike (I know a strike is not a lockout, but to the majority of fans... it's the same. There's no games being played.)

The owners and the players can't afford a lockout, so they'll reach an agreement. They have a TON of time to negotiate.

Yes, it is very much wishful thinking. But not so far fetched that it shouldn't be mentoioned. Gaurds aren't typically worth 1st round money. Also, as with any draft, players drop back. And with this draft being so deep with talent, I don't think its out of the relm of possibility that iupati could fall 10-12 spots to the 5th pick in the second round. Now, having said all that, yes its wishful thinking

That statement tells me you don't know the issues...Your basing your opinion on the popularity...That is not the issue...The NFL had had three work stopages...and it only got more popular....Your comparing football to hockey??

It only got more popular after they installed a salary cap. Most of these owners were not around for the last strike. They don't get that the only reason the NFL got as big as it did, was directly a result of the salary cap. Add a lockout to losing the salary cap and this sport will no longer be the revenue machine that these owners currently enjoy...Not to mention, they want to also get rid of revenue sharing which will take away the ability for around half of the teams to compete. Talk about a bonehead move...
