Looks like Russ Grimm is a finalist for the Chicago HC job. I can't blame him, but it's be great to have him in DC again.

I wonder if he will take the job there or join his old coach in DC?

Didn't he used to coach here before? When Norv was here?

Yeah, he was the O-line coach under Norv I think. Can anyone verify that?

Marty is an idiot. Hopefully Russ gets the job in Chicago because he deserves it, but if not, I think Joe Bugel may be "Assistant Head Coach" so Russ can be "Offensive Coordinator" which is a step up from the OL Coach title he has in Pittsburgh thus giving us the ability to negotiate with him because it would be a promotion. At least that's my conspiracy theory.

trying to look toward the future, i have to hope that joe gibbs is thinking about grooming someone to succeed him as head coach when his contract's up. assuming that he does in fact want to leave in five years, i've got to hope that there's a good transfer of power and that the staff could then stay reasonably consistent. what about grimm coming in as an off. coordinator, to become head coach of the skins in five? thoughts?

I had read something very similar about Grimm succeeding Gibbs. Everyone knows we're going to have Joe for 5 years because he won't just up and quit like Spurrier, but by then he'll be 68. I think Bugel is around Gibbs' age and doesn't want to be HC anyway, so it would make sense to groom someone else to take his place. If Russ lands in DC as a coordinator I would say that scenario may very well play out. Who better to learn from than one of the best coaches ever? Keep it in the "family" and keep the mindset basically the same. Shoot, the 'Skins could be set up very well coach-wise for a long, long time.

It's pretty obvious the Redskins would love to bring Grimm back and groom him as Gibbs' eventual successor. The only holdup is the Steelers, who would promote him to offensive coordinator if Mularkey gets the Buffalo head coaching job. I can't really blame them for that, but I think if Mularkey doesn't get the job, the Steelers will eventually give their permission for us to talk to him. They don't have to, but I don't believe they'd stand in the way of his getting a promotion.
