Favorite Redskins QB of all time

Post by redskins56 »

I know it is hard, and I do have great respect for those left off. Namely Billy Killmer, Stan Humphries, John Friez, and Heath Shuler... lol

Of the 5 however... Who is your favorite?

Gotta be Joey T for me. Was around for the Hogs era and was a lot of fun to watch.

Of these, I had to go with Joey T. I loved Riggins' era football and he was the man at the helm.

I do believe that if Doug was around he would have the strongest arm in the league today Cool

I don't necessarily disagree; however, I think Ramsey's arm may be a strong, if not stronger than Doug's.

And hopefully we'll be able to see how strong that arm is, as we will no longer have blocking schemes where a just-signed tight end is assigned to block Simeon Rice! :)

My vote is for Doug Williams, after falling on his tail after the snap while ten down to the Broncos, to blowing them out, one of the greatest emotional tunrarounds watching a game I've ever had. Doug will always hold a special place for me.

That's the way I look at it too. It was more the team I loved than the QB... but at that time Joey T. was taking the snaps :P

Exactly. Besides, while I loved watching Joe T and the early 80's 'Skins, I can't vote for a guy who changed the pronunciation of his last name to rhyme with 'Heisman' as my favorite QB. Even if the name does bring up good memories.

I agree with most people - Theismann for me. My folks moved to DC for two years in 1980, that's how an Englishman like myself found the game.

As you all know, 1980 was the end of the Pardee era, followed by Gibbs Part One. That's my favourite time and probably always will be.

With St. Joe returning, it's inspired me to dust off my old Redskins videos, Hog Day Afternoon, 1981-84, and the games I taped once they started being shown over here in England.

I was 12 years old in 1988. One night I was flipping through the channels on TV and found the Super Bowl XXII pre-game show on. I had never really gotten into pro football before but decided that I would check it out anyway. After watching the commentators sizing up the skins and broncos, I decided that I would root for the Redskins! After watching Doug Williams and the gang whip up on Denver all night long, I decided that I now had a reason to watch pro football. I have been a die-hard skins fan ever since. So, in short, my vote would have to be for Doug as my favorite QB.

I would have vote for Joe Heisman simply because I never watched Sonny play and well as much as I like the other two they only played for roughly a season.

A better poll would have been your least favorite QB: George, Shuler, Schroeder, Banks, Wuerrfel, Matthews--I hated all these guys except maybe for Jay Schroeder

i've got to agree with kkryan - i never saw sonny play either and therefore couldn't vote for him. but i stand by my vote of douggie, even if it is more for personal annoyance reasons than actual football merit.

Anyone remember Tom Flick (I got his autograph at Carlisle one year), Stan Humphries, Bob Holly and Babe Laufenberg?

Only Stan got a chance and did well for the Chargers if my memory serves.

I voted for Doug

The Poll asks FAVOURITE QB not who you thought was the best

Doug always gave 136% effort and that was good enough for me

Never saw Sonny play and Joe was always overshadowed by Riggo

Yeah. Didn't you love the complexity and innate intelligence shown by the group of writers, each representing the pride of their respective staffs, when they had a chance to ask Doug Williams for his personal take on the game about to be played ?
"So, Doug. How does it feel to be a black quarterback ?"

Jesus Christ. Where do they find these guys ? A blind ad in the back of Rolling Stone Magazine ?
