Good idea for draft pick
The defense seems to be fine, and even though I'd like another defensive lineman on the field I think, that if Mike Williams is available at our draft position then we HAVE to take him.
I've always been a big believer in having one smaller speed reciever (Coles) and one big possession reciever for your starting 2 wideouts. Williams is an amazing reciever, and he's taken this raw deal from the NCAA and NFL with nothing but class. He's a good reciever, a good guy to have on the team and he's seriously better than Rod Gardner.
I say we could draft Mike Williams and trade Gardner for that defensive line help, a new center, or whatever we decide we need before or after the draft. Personally, I think we should deal him for a tight end... Yeah one that doesn't have brick hands but can still block. I don't think we have a very good TE corps on the Redskins.

Yeah, if Baas could play center that would be great.
Still, if Mike Williams is available then an offensive weapon like that would help a ton. Bugel is making the most of this rag tag line with all the injuries. I'm sure in the 2nd round, free agency or via trade a center will be available that he could work with.

i disagree. i think our entire draft should be linemen ....on both sides.John Manfreda wrote:Mike Williams would be a good pick, isn't their another guy from USC also. I think our biggest need on offense is a reciever.
here's an idea. lets draft a DE.

I can't argue with that pick. As long as we trade Gardner, then we should be able to draft Williams.
I do think we will get linemen on both sides in the early and late rounds. I like David Pollack but I don't think he is the type of speed defensive end we need to draft, though.

Mike Williams would be a good pick, if he has been working out during this whole time off. There is no doubt in my mind that he is not the same player he was in the past. He obviously has some rust, there is a big difference from playing and just working out and running.
I think we should draft a DE, which this draft is full of. With a solid pass rush it would do a couple of things...
1. Attract a double team, meaning other linemen will get free.
2. We won't have to blitz, so even if we don't get to the QB we are still in coverage with 7 guys.
I would like to see one of three DE's Polluck, James or Spears. All great pass rushers.

You still have to go with the best player available, and that would be Mike Williams if he's there at our pick.
Yeah, a defensive lineman would be nice, maybe an O-lineman... but in free agency, in the later rounds... there will be one there to take.
Can you immagine what Mike Williams would do for the Redskins? Williams and Coles would be an amazing combo, add
ey, Ramsey, Portis and a new TE and our offense would be tremendous... and offense has been our biggest weakness.

Mike Williams would be an awesome pick up but with our current situation at WR, A pass rushing DE would be a much better acquisition. Mathias Kiwanuka from BC would be an awesome pickup if we go D-Line in round 1, otherwise I like Justin Tuck from Notre Dame ( 4.5 speed, Notre Dames all time sack leader) and great size (6'5", 260 pounds). He should be available in the early 2nd round (maybe we can trade up to get him)

we're gonna trade our high draft pick down and pick Heath Miller late in the first prolly.
Joe wants a Great blocking and Great catching TE to go along with
ey.
no first round pick for defense......not for offensive line....if they get a center...believe me....he'll be a veteran.
Gibbs wants a TE......just like
ey at H-back.....Miller will be the perfect fit for Gibbs scheme....and thats just more than likely the truth.
just my honest thoughts.....sorry if someones a lil dissapointed.

i wouldn't mind taking Mike Williams for our first pick...we get williams and trade Gardner for a low 2nd round pick, where we could pick up a more than qualified DE. there's a lot more choices at DE in next years draft to choose from than WR in my opinion...one of those DE's are bound to fall in the second round. i think the DE's this year, will be the RB's of last years draft...alot of quality guys falling late.

I would perfer a speed rusher but what does Gregg need to still have a n elite defense.
It seems that he perfer his guys big up front.
A Big line holds up the defenders for a good blitz between the tackles.

Gibbs and Bugel have a history of finding good O-lineman in the late rounds. Let them continue that trend. A pass rushing DE would be nice but we don't have a no.1 reciever. Coles is a excellent No.2 but he is too little to be a no.1 The Redskins need a reciever that is like 6'3 and can really get down field. Chad or TO someone like that. I don't like Samuels but they said they are going to keep him so the only other O-line need is a center. You would use a first round pick on the center. I would use this pick on offense considering that our D is no.2 in the league and we will get Lavar back. We also need a TE, for the people that don't know
ey is a H-back. We need a pure TE. Trade Gardner for a pick or see if we could get a DE straight up for him. It sucks we don't have our second round pick, but
ey was worth it.

Too bad we don't have a second round pick! Brunell cost us that. Well #8 cost us a third this year that we would have had to draft

a true speed rusher at DE would be great, instead of commiting to all the blitz packages, because of a lack of pass rush.... it does hurt some. i would like to see gregg williams with a stout front four to work with, and lavar and sean reaking havoc behind the d-line. with the blitz package we have now, too many guys are commited to the blitz, which is why we get exposed in games with high powered offenses, and we can't at that point get the ground game going, because we are passing to catch up. don't get me wrong, we are playing good against the run, and i am happy with the overall play of the defense, but we just get beat by passing teams(PERIOD)

Guys,
I agree that we should pick up O-line and D-line first and keep Rod Gardner. We all know that we can't go into another offseason and pick up a bunch of verterans. Our priority should be maintaining the team chemistry that these players have built this past season. We can't suffer another season like the past 5. It's time to win. We get all of our new guys from the draft and try to keep Pierce and other unrestricted free agents.

i agree totally. lets sign what we've got, and those we NEED to keep. then let the draft play out. no crazy free agent moves. just draft smart, and maybe a few "role players" in free agency. we've got what we need to make this work next year. 1st round.... DE third round... Center project. 4-7th, whomever happens to help the team most at that point.doctordrew wrote:Guys,

That would be an awesome pick. Since I live an hour outside of Charlottesville I go to a ton of the UVA games. I've been watching him carefully the past couple years. He is an absolutely stunning run blocker, the best in the nation. His pass blocking skills are not quite on his ron blockin level, but still very solid. You'll be hardpressed to find a better all around guard in the draft.
