Best Hands ???

Hey I saw Monday night live last night, and I heard a debateable topic. Who has the best hands on the skinz. I would have to go

ey, D Mac, L Coles, in that order. Who do yyou think.

This poll was rigged. One guy who catches everything thrown his way versus a bunch of guys who don't think they have anything to prove.
D-Mac and Jacobs are running a distanced second and third, our starters are bringing up the rear because well they are starters. Granted LC is hurt, Gardner is now catching more than he is dropping, but I could see McCants and Jacobs starting next year and Thrash/Coles(depending on whether or not he has surgery) at the 3 spot

come on guys, get serious. Coles has the best hands on the team by far. ey?? I love ey but no way he has the best hands because he isnt asked to make the tough cathes. Coles has the amount of drops that he has is because he asked to make extremely tough catches in traffic.

I'm also going to go with Coles on this one. There were some early season problems, but most of Coles' dissapointing drops can be confined to the Dallas game, when he wasn't entirely healthy. He's also made some grabs that have been very impressive, and I think that his consistency in catching well will show through the rest of this season.

ey will probably be the popular pick, but I think that's more because he's such a likeable underdog in this poll.

I would say a healthy Coles has the best hands... but who has the best feet?

Thats because he has only had 5 balls thrown his way!!!!
A healthy Coles has the best hands by far. He makes the tough catches over the middle.

I think Chris ey is a good Redskin, he catches some hard catches in the enzone. In Pitzburg he caught the ball in the endzone and got banged up. He got right back up. I think he catches all his passes and he's just a good tough TE.


For the recievers I like McCants because he catches them balls a lot. He has good hands.

I picked Darnerien only because of his past performances - he's not been given the opportunities the others have this year so it's not fair to put him after ey. I would say if he were thrown as many balls as ey - he would have the same rating.....so...Darnerien and ey are my top two. Coles and Gardner miss too many and Thrash and Jacobs aren't thrown at too much so can't really rate them either.

None of the current guys has anywhere near the hands of the receivers mentioned by Welch. Bobby Mitchell was -fantastic- once he ran with it.

I am biased. I am an Art Monk fan. There are a million reasons why I think he should be among the three top Skins receivers of all time. He must go to Canton.

Having said that, I would have a -very- hard time to decide between Theisman-Monk or Jurgensen-Taylor when they were at their best.

But this was about "best hands" and not overall best receiver (running, averages per catch, total yards, etc.)

I would say the best was Charley Taylor. BUT any of the names above, with all due respect, has a nicer ring in my mind than -ANY- of the current crop of receivers. This may change in time. But the current crowd has A LOT to catch on to (literally) before it is compared to -ANY- of the above.

How the heck does ey even get a vote?
Hell yes I love him, and he catches everything thrown to him...

but...

He sure as hell better catch a ball when he's just standing in the endzone or running a little swing pass route agains a lineback or defensive end.

AS far as racing over the middle or leaping over QB's to make the catch... I guess I lean toward Coles. It's a damn shame though because Gardner can leap over the goal posts and drag down balls but can't catch a ball thrown into his chest over the middle.

Impossible to decide. But consider, from the first year that Jurgenson was retired, Redskins trailing, Sonny calling the game:

Probably so, -however-, Charley Taylor was in the last year of his career. He still played against Miami at the SB. I still remember the pass that Sonny threw at him when he went in to replace Billy Kilmer. Charley Taylor's hands and body had taken -many- good hits. He was not the fastest or more versatile receiver at that time, although he was was still one of the best in my heart. Age takes its toll.

Sonny and him still played together for a few last games. It was a pleasure to see CBs at least ten years younger have quite a bit of respect for the old man. He was a speedster in his prime. I liked Charley Taylor A LOT. He was not huge at all, but he had the biggest heart in the NFL: a core Redskin.

Having said so, maybe a few posters might be asking who the hell are Jerry Smith and Charley Taylor. Difficult to explain but the thread might help.

How about: one season, the Redskins had the number 1, number 2, and number 4 receivers in the league.

Or: Taylor was 6'3", usually was listed at 217 pounds, and was rookie of the year as a running back for the Redskins. For emphasis: the NFL rookie of the year as as runner. He was the Skins leading rusher, and also caught about 45 passes in a 14 games season.

In this third year (approximately), Otto Graham switched Taylor to WR in mid-season, and it was like someone had introduced atomic weapons into the NFL...Taylor was impossible to cover, impossible to stop; Taylor and Mitchell together: devastation. Around '66, they timed the players -- not common in those days -- and discovered that Taylor was the fastest player on the team at 100 yards. Bobby Mitchell was faster at 20, 40, and maybe 50 yards, but Taylor was faster over the 100.

Jerry Smith would probably be the perfect H-back today. He was a fast tight end, not as fast as Mitchell and Taylor, but quick and great at catching the tough throws, whether across the middle or the down-and-out where Jurgenson would put the ball slightly out-of-bounds, just out of reach of the DB and just barely within Smith's reach.

This is -almost- true. I am sure he would give anything for another chance in the end zone. He was under double coverage during the last play. The one he would want to take back was the other throw that bounced off.

I am not going to say that Charley Taylor and Art Monk would have made it... WHOOPPS!
