Off Season QB Free Agents
Is anyone else looking at some potential free agent QB's to back up PRam next season? While I like Brunell, he doesn't seem to click with this offense. Would it be a terrible thing to look at Warner or Bledsoe (seeing as his future with the Bills is all but over)?

Well....out of those choices....Yes, it would be bad. I would play Hasselback before those 2. Bledsoe has a cannon, but he is like a statue in the pocket.
I don't think we need to scoop up anymore of other teams trash. If we were to look at anybody it would have to be Brees (Too much $$$) or McMahon from Detroit. That guy is great, but got pushed under the rug when they drafted Harrington. He will be a FA this year.
I would prefer to draft a QB in the middle to late rounds that Gibbs can teach and it won't cost a lot of $$$. This would be the best scenario to me.

I shouldn't look at Warner or Bledsoe at all they're both past their prime and we have one like that already. I agree Brees would cost too much and McMahon from Detroit could get a look, But hasselbeck should be given a chance to win the backup spot before he's written off has only a 3rd stringer.
If Tim can handle the spot maybe we should look at a veteran like Kitna fron Cincy.

That's why I'm worried about next year already...we'll be picking up another FA QB who will go thru training camp and easily beat Ramsey again and we'll be back to ground hog day again....only I'm hoping the FA will be better than brunell which shouldn't be hard to do. I just don't trust ramsey, never have? Everyone says "he's young, he's only started 17 games, etc.." Ever heard of Big Ben? There's tons of other QB's with less exp that you can tell are better already or were at the 17-19 game stage? I'm wary of Ramsey...he just is a statue in the pocket and holds the ball too long, makes a nice drive and throws a pic on th 10 or something, or misses 2 pt conversions to wide open Coles to tie games etc..etc...I don't think I've ever let him off the hook for that one....hopefully he'll get better, Rypien was a bit the same way and that turned out alright for a couple seasons. He stunk on the front and back end of his Redskin career.

Drew Brees is a free agent this offseason! I say we should maybe take a look at him! But, I have not given up on Ramsey just yet! If he does not show any signs of promise by the end of this year I think we have to look in a different direction

Rypien was a SB MVP. I don't care what else he did the rest of his career. Skins fans oughta be appreciate what Rypien did for the Redskins during the 1991 season. I know I appreciate Timmy "one-hit wonder" Smith for his SB performance.

Kitna would definately make a great number 2 guy. He's solid and would definately be a starter in many other franchises. If we did decide to go after Brees, remember $$$ is never an issue with Dan (MoneyBags) Snyder, we're going to have another QB Controversey next season. Brees is obviously proving himself this year and I think Marty is taking notice.
PRam's performance against the G-Strings was remarkable considering our offense as of late. I wonder....

If you hadn't noticed, Danny isn't in charge of player signings any longer. That's Joe's department. Gibbs will not bring in another guy who will undermine Ramsey. If Ramsey finishes out strong, which I think he will, Gibbs will be looking to solidify the #2 and 3 spots. You don't do that by signing a $50 million guy. Someone like McMahon would be perfect if there isn't any starter interest in him from other teams....
Death to the EGO! RIP 21
Ol' Danny Boy may no longer be the long arm of the law but he still holds the purse strings. And in case you didn't notice, Gibbs has never had a problem with two starting QB's. Do yourself a favor and go back in history: count just how many times, including this season, that Gibbs intentionally hired two starting caliber QBs. (1988, 1991, 1983/84, 2004)
Joe Gibbs is the King of Depth. That is a fact. Danny is trying to prove that he the the King of the Cap. That is a fact. Money is not an issue -- its the play that counts.

Hopefully Ramsey will hold on to the job for next season. Depending upon the cap ramifications Brunell should be released either this off-season or next and Hasselbeck is what he is, a good 3rd string QB. Kitna is not a bad idea, and the McMahon kid would be a great addition. No matter how you look at it, this is a position that needs an upgrade.

RhodeSkin, in 2004 Gibbs hired Brunell... who is NOT starting caliber :-\
I suspect he'll be back in 2005... but I'd really like McMahon from Detroit to be the back up.

you just argued your own point...
Ramsey = Rypien
The whole point is so what... What did we get from starting Rypien... answer: a superbowl win...
that is all I need... I don't need a hall of fame qb and neither does gibbs... 3 superbowls 3 different qbs....
do i like him ? no... I dont really trust him totall either... but we can win with ramsey... he is under contract so play ball...
It may not be plausible but if we were to get another FA QB next year... I would love McNair...
He has taken a beating this year... and has lost faith in the Titans organization... he is talking about retirement... but Gibbs might be able to convince him that he can keep him healthy (max protect, good running game and great defense)
McNair baby McNair...
If we go youth movement... I like a David Garrard... he reminds me of a young Mcnair..... just my .02 cents...

I've hit a brick wall (kind of like what Ben is headed for). Can think of a ton of other QBs that you can honestly say are better that have the same or less exp. as Ramsey, can't even come up with a few
you are corect... there is a huge shortage of QB's in this league... face it... we aren't going to get a proven or big name free agent... so we might as well stick with Ramsey...
look at the QB situation in the NFL right now...
I will name the team and you honestly ask yourself if their starter is better than Ramsey.. or you would rather have theirs...
Miami
Cleveland
Chicago
Detroit
raiders
cardinals
49ers
houston
chicago
detroit
dallas
tampa
ravens
next tier
tenn (volek not mcnair)
Jets (pennington may be better but arguable)
buff (bledsoe... see pennington)
denver (plummer is a bum imo, but arguable)
New Orleans (aaron brooks.... see plummer)
the point is there arent that many qbs out there that are better than ramsey...currently or potentially...
just get a top notch line and it is all irrelevant...

Carr (30 TDs/39 Ints 71.7 QB rating) in Houston would be the only one I'd consider but he doesn't equal Ramsey either. Of all the teams and QB's listed I'd have no problem staying with Ramsey (29 TDs/24 Ints 73.1 QB rating)

good point... but Ramsey is cheaper... and has probably won more games... potential wise they are even imo... stay with ramsey b/c he is cheaper...
Fellas we have a Honda Accord...(Ramsey) not flashy or sexy but servicable... we have spent our cadillac money on Portis...
Draft and Pickup Lineman... Offense first then Defense...
I wouldn't mind seeing us bring in a goal line specialist... a la Zack Crockett from a couple of years ago... Charlie Garner got the raiders to the redzone/goaline and Crockett punched it in... the raiders converted like 80% td's in the redzone...
We can ride portis' back to the redzone but need a big back that can punch it in...giving our team more balance...
