Gibbs has vigorously denied it for the past three days ever since Mortenson reported it on Sunday morning.

I can't see him "quitting" after one season, unless the health thing is REAL bad. JJG ain't quit on nothin'.

I do!!

The story is completely false. Gibbs is in it for the long haul. This mornings Washington Post says that Gibbs was "flabbergasted" when he heard of the rumor.
Sit back and watch the Redskins.

SOMETHING MAGICAL IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!

nope. Gibbs has been repeatedly asked about it lately and he always says, no, I made a commitment, I'm staying.

*edit* plus he was saying he's in the best shape of his life and his health is great.

How far will the imagination of ESPN's editors go to grab a headline???

Anywhere!!!
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Gibbs ain't going nowhere. Gibbs will continue to fight 'till he's a winner again. He likes the challenge. I like him. I think he's a good guy. He's cool. He ain't a quitter. He's a winner! Go Redskins

There is no way he is leaving. You think he is going to give up already?

I think Gibbs is staying. If the Skins don't do well next year (say 5-11 again), he'll still stay...because the 3rd year will be THEE year this team returns to glory.

If, in year 3, the Skins fail to get to the playoffs, don't be surprised if Williams takes over at the helm after Gibbs retires.

Just my My 2 cents

I hate ESPN they are full of crap. All their stories and shows suck anyway! Anyone who knows anything about football knows Joe Gibbs isn't a quiter.

welch is right! Sometimes these people just throw enough at the wall and see what the "response" is.

There is no possible way that Joe is going to not be our coach next year!

There is no possible way that Dan is going to let Joe not coach next year!

Okay! maybe somebody on high might have something to say about what happens on Sundays, but I'm pretty sure even He is happy to have Joe back! We know He doesn't like the pukes anymore, look at them!
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Bringing in a GM would help Gibbs with a lot of the things he has going on right now and move "The Danny" further into the background and hopefully Vinny C out

Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has denied reports that his health is not very good and that he could step down. He stated he remains committed to restoring the Redskins winning tradition. However, Gibbs is open to bringing in a GM next season as he is part of a troika (owner Dan Snyder and VP Player Personnel Vinny Cerrato) that made the personnel decisions during the past offseason.
What has happened to Redskins RB Clinton Portis? He only saw six carries against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week and obviously with the emergence from nowhere of RB Reuben Droughns with the Denver Broncos, one has to wonder if it's the system or Portis? However, head coach Joe Gibbs states he's committed to Portis and feels his six-carry day was due to being down 13 and 10 points during the game as well as poor play-calling.
