Angels to get Rivera, prospect

NEW YORK -- The Anaheim Angels have agreed to trade troubled outfielder Jose Guillen to the Washington-bound Expos for outfielder Juan Rivera and a prospect, The Associated Press learned Friday.

Anaheim and Montreal scheduled conference calls but did not announce the subject. Details of the deal were described to the AP by a person close to Guillen, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Guillen was suspended for the last eight games of the regular season and dropped from Anaheim's playoff roster after he threw a tantrum in the dugout and clubhouse when he was removed for a pinch-runner on Sept. 25. In a grievance settlement, he agreed to allow the Angels to withhold two days' pay.

Guillen hit .294 with 27 homers and a career-high 104 RBIs in 2004. He is owed $3.5 million next season.

They're actually maknig some moves. They've gone out strong so far this offseason. They still need a lot of work though! Too bad Vlad isn't still playing for them!!
The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

But why Guillen?

They traded Rivera, who hit .307 at 26 years old. They got Guillen, who got into a fight with his manager.

Is this an improvement, or a last move to scrape the value out of the team before real owners take over? I'm thinking about the trade last summer that gave the Red Sox a shortstop.

Because he hit 30 HR + 100 RBI and only costs 3.5 mil. That's a good deal.

Guillen said he's taking anger management classes so he can focus on baseball. So that shouldn't be an issue.

I like this trade a lot. I hope it pays off real well.

How old is Guillen? Rivera is 26.

Again, as I've said, I follow the Yankees, being in NYC, and being father of one of the all-time most devoted Yankee fans. I don't know the NL.

It's that character thing that bothers me. I really liked the late-90's Yankees, and I think they do well when with level-headed players like Williams, Posada, Matsui, Jeter...and did well with Bosius and Tino and Paul O.

"Anger manager classes" make me a little nervous.
