Just curious, but why are the Redskins so....
unlucky at QB position?
Seriously, if we'd have had just a decent QB over the last 12-13 yrs, we'd have been much, much better and made the playoffs more than once...it's a joke? We'd easily be 5-4, 6-3 right now with just a decent QB? We seem to have no problem with RB's since Gibbs left, Terry Allen, S Davis, now Portis...but our QB's have just plain sucked?
Name one besides Brad Johnson? and what did we do with him for the most part? Win...with a defense, we'd have been a freeking powerhouse in '99. Hell, we almost made the NFC championship.
Trent Green in 97 or 98, not sure, but he did make some noise.
Other than that? nothing, Gus Ferrote? nope...sorry, not good enough.
and Ramsey? Gus Ferotte II is all he is. Strong arm, no mobility sacked machine with a good line, and poor reads..
If we can get a decent QB next year we'll be set because i'll bet anything Ramsey hits high 40's low 50's % comp % rest of year with a bunch of sacks and more Int's than TD's...
If it isn't one thing, it's another around here...finally get a strong D, solid back, decent receivers, and we get stuck with the worst set of QBs you could imagine?

To the negative adjectives above, I would counter with: strong arm, courageous, hard-working, and a great leader.Montana Redskin wrote:and Ramsey? Gus Ferotte II is all he is. Strong arm, no mobility sacked machine with a good line, and poor reads..
He has to stop forcing every pass. He has to stop holding on to the ball too long. But as opposed to those that have given up on the kid without giving him a decent chance, I say go Patrick! We believe you can do it. Joe believes you can do it. Shut down your critics even if they are not willing to give you a fair chance.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

I really think it has to do with the changing offensive schemes. I mean, we've had so many coaching/philosophical changes over the years that you can't settle on a guy, and just let him sit and watch for a few years any more.
That's my 2 cents. there's probably a boatload of people who will say that Heath was DEFINITELY our guy, but we blew it.

Good feedback, actually, I get to see the games about 2 weeks after they occur. A horsedrawn carriage mail man delivers a huge reel tape to me and I fire up the generator outside my house on wheels to watch it. My 6 dogs love to watch too!!
Back to Ramsey...From day 1 I've thought he's had potential, but I haven't seen any conclusive improvement? Ben R in Pitt doesn't seem to have a problem finding a way to win and not throwing pics? We could name name's all night of guys with less game time than P-Ram or guys that show improvement much more rapidly...plus, guys who sucked worse..All it yields is a 48-52% compl % guys with a 17 TD 24 INT type numbers? I like the guy, but I don't think he'll be the answer? He just almost wins games? We need a "finds a way to win games" qb?

We just need an average-above average QB...that's it...we'll be fine.
Is PRam? no, not in my opinion. Not until he shows ANY type of improvement? He looks no better (actually worse) than his first Titan start? I love his cannon, it's awesome, but awesome cannons don't win games, ask Jeff George.
We're stuck in the mud right now. Pram is a start in the right direction, but after week 17, I'd pull out the wallet and start asking for bets that Pram and Brunell won't be behind the center in 2005..
We'll be looking for a FA QB in January-Feb guaranteed.

bens WR's are actually doing this thing called.... "catching the ball" the only redskin receiver that has done that has been darnerian mccants, who now has the top receiving % from the skins, due to his back to back, showing the other wr's how to play, catches. i guess none of the other WR's actually expected the ball to make it far enough to get to them in past weeks. lets only hope patrick provides that.Back to Ramsey...From day 1 I've thought he's had potential, but I haven't seen any conclusive improvement? don't get me wrong, I don't want P ram to not do good, I'd love it. I just don't think he will after watching him alot in 02, 03 and very minimal 04 thus far. It's frustrating..like watching paint dry seeing him hold on to the ball too long, take sacks, rifle pics, miss easy 2pt conv like Philly last year...like I said, it's just "almost enough to win games" vs. "doing just enough to win"...fine line...maybe he can overcome it, hope so, young, smart kid. I'm just pessimistic after seeing him over the the last few yrs.

man. what didn't you like about him last year. look at his TD to int ratio. it was damn good. his problem last year was protection. not saying that hasn't changed this year, but he was doing enough to win games while he was in last year. the o-line folded, then the defense went to hell. it wasn't ramsey's fault entirely last year. the rest of the team was way worse.

exactly hailskins! his TD/INT ratio has actually been far superior to david carr and joey harrington, higher-drafted peers of his. i don't think you can even consider the INTs he's thrown so far this season, he was put in with NO practice time to clean up brunell's mess and put point points on the board quickly. he had to force some throws, and the defense knew he was going to pass almost every play.
you also have to keep in mind that spurrier told him to take chances, force deep throws, make big plays. so he's having to adjust to gibbs's much more conservative style, and hasn't had a chance to work that out in a game yet.
i agree that he has problems reading the defense, but please remember that he's never had any work on how to read an NFL defense! he is basically a rookie in that regard- spurrier knew nothing about NFL defenses, and he hasn't gotten the work with gibbs that he will now that he's the starter.
i expect to see ramsey continuing to make a mix of spectacular and awful throws throughout the season, but slowly progress toward much better reads and less mistakes by the end. he should be in prime shape to take us to the show next year!

Time to judge Patrick -under- Joe Gibbs. I am convinced Joe will get the best from him.die cowboys die wrote:i expect to see ramsey continuing to make a mix of spectacular and awful throws throughout the season, but slowly progress toward much better reads and less mistakes by the end. he should be in prime shape to take us to the show next year!
I am convinced that our guys see this game as a great opportunity to spark our season. What is it? 11 or 10 1/2 point spread? Great! Even most of the local posters are predicting a loss. Not me, never.
I say: What if we get an old-vintage, hard-fought, down-the-trenches, up-to-the-last-second type of game? How about playing Gibbs-football? How about our OL protecting at their best and the receivers holding on to the balls? How about Patrick making good reads and short quick passes?
Clinton Portis will play his best game yet! Sean Taylor will level the clown in green!
I refuse to give up on my team for this game. I refuse to give up on Patrick. I refuse to give up on Joe. I know I can count on them to fight all along and, yes, try to win this one. They can count on me to support them.
They can win! Go Patrick, show them! I can not wait.

Oh boy! Must be Friday. I'm ready.
RiC, that's cool! Maybe a little wishful, but I think it can happen.
1 week with Joe & Don, Buges getting max protection AND against a not very good run D. We really could pull it out.
I also see dcd's thought process with Patrick and I agree that we could have a much improved product here. Hopefully sooner.
I always liked the intangibles with Ramsey, not a big time school, a bad O line but he just found a way to get into the scouts' minds and now he's our QB. I hope for our sake that he shows us that we did not make another QB mistake and all we need in the future is to find the other pieces because he can be a very good QB, IMO
One other thing I remember is he did not seem to let it bother him that he had virtually no protection. This kid took a beating and kept on tickin'. I hope to see him get rewarded with some of our WRs catching the damn ball.

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Gibbs won with: Schroeder, Williams, Rypien, Theisman, Humphries,etc.. None of which can be compared to the elite qb's in their era. I feel Ramsey is already as good as the group we've won with before, relax, he'll get there. Just wish we made the qb switch earlier, to gain that valuable playing time that will play dividends in future years.

I know exactly what you are trying to say.... If you look at bradys, ben r. numbers you dont see alot. But they are CLUTCH! Games are won in the 4th quarter, and a bunch of 3 and outs wont do it. Pram has a problem beating the blitz. His scrambling ability limits him to a certain extent.
However, in the past when we gave up too soon on our qb they turn out to win the SB or go on to great careers...trent, brad. I say give the kid a chance to learn the system. Just look at brees in san diego, it took 4 hard
years for him to figure it out but he looks like a keeper.
