Skins sacked!

Did you guys notice a little bit of history as soon as Ramsey stepped on the field? He got sacked several times. What gives? Brunell rarely got sacked. I guess that's because he always threw it away, but Ramsey was being sacked repeatedly. Why is it that he draws more sacks? Does he STILL keep the ball too long in the pocket? Do other defenses know that Ramsey is least productive when being rushed? Or did the O-line just give up?

I'm confused. :roll:

Ramsey is what you would call a pocket passer. He doesn't rollout that often, and the pocket doesn't move when Ramsey is in there.
I get a feeling that will change soon

Brunell can scramble better than Ramsey. But to say Brunell "rarely" got sacked is a complete overstatement. He got sacked a lot this year, too. Ramsey can scramble really well but most of the time, he chooses not to.

He also laid down for two of those sacks at least. I think some of that had to be rust.

When he came in there was not much doubt he was going to have to pass - kinda tips the defense off.

great point thats want iam talking about with ramsey in there to start the game theres no way they can give us 8 man fronts

I agree with you because I noticed that too. Ramsey does get sacked WAY more than Brunnell did. Even though the line stinks this year especially Chris Samuels and Ray Brown Brunnell did not get sacked that much.

It could be because he is a bit more mobile and can avoid it or because he throws it a few milliseconds faster than Ramsey.

But to be fair to Ramsey on Sunday I noticed that some of the sacks were 3 seconds or less. And whenever a quaterback gets so little time I blame the line and not him.

I think the eagles will line up with an 8 man front and force Ramsey to beat them in the air. That's what I would do, Portis will kill them if they don't. Although, the eagles run defense did look much better Monday night with Trotter at middle linebacker.

I just can't wait to see Ramsey get in there when the score is actually even. Thats going to take tons of pressure off of him and hopefully give him more time. Ramsey is the kind of quarterback that needs time to throw, of course he's not a scrambler like a Vick or a McNabb who can buy lots of time for themselves. Our line will be the key factor in the game against the Eagles, if they play well and do a good job of picking up blitzes I think we win this game. If not it's going to be a long day.

An 8 man front isn't unusual for the Eagles. Jim Johnson likes showing blitz, even if he doesn't call blitz as often as people think.

one disadvantage was that we were down by 17 and the bengals knew we had to pass...

but the knock on ramsey is he can't read defenses... he doesn't have great anticipation or pre snap reads.... even spurrier didn't like that about ramsey... ramsey is better for our team than brunell but neither one is the answer...

we should have taken the other jacksonville qb... (David Garrard) Our team would be nasty if we had him on our team...

the iggles were playing the boys who have no running back. with trotter at MLB against clevelnad the broowns ran up and down the field and they almost lost. the key will be to losen up the birds D and get portis 30 carries to dominate the TOP.

i would rather see him take a sack than throw a wobbler up for grabs and get intercepted....a sack doesn't hurt as much as a INT does, unless it goes for a safety...

Well, you'll get your wish. Patrick takes entirely too long getting rid of the ball. It's one of the biggest reasons Brunell was in there for so long. He'll throw it away if the options run out, and do it in a way that no "intentional grounding" penalty is called.
That's one part of the game that Patches has yet to master.

Let's not forget that Ramsey CAN indeed scramble. Anyone else remember the game last year against the Jets??? He learned about running with heart from a great scrambling (for his own life) Qb in Wuerrfel, and, hopefully, he's been watching mark in practice to learn how to get out of trouble with his legs. Didn't he also have a nice scamper last week?

I think we're seeing Patrick's rebirth as a runnin' QB. Maybe we have another VIck in the making?????

for once i actually agree with you! heheheh
but seriously, i also don't get why there's all the criticism on his mobility. obviously he's always going to be a protypical "pocket passer", but he made some really nice plays on his legs at crucial moments last year. i think what he needs to work on more than "mobility" per se is just pocket awareness, being able to realize he's in trouble and make that little duck or swerve to avoid a sack before it's too late. you know?

I only saw the second half of the game last night, and it seems that Patrick has reverted to his "assume fetal position" tactics when facing pressure in the pocket. Oy!!
