no, if we had a QB, we'd beat Pittsburg too ;-)

regarding the trade, we basically got Portis for a 2nd rounder because Champ was outta here one way or the other, so I'd definitely say we got the better end of the deal. Try to find another Portis with any pick in next years draft and see what you end up getting. Good Luck!!!!

I still say it's up in the air. What if Denver lands The Next Big Thing with that pick ?No, no. Not Brock Lesnar. You know what I mean.
If we'd managed to swap our franchise guy for their franchise guy, I'd go with Washington, hands down.
We didn't, though. We gave up one of the last picks we had left for him.
Since when is Champ Bailey not enough to sweeten a pot ?

Tatum Bell? The next big thing?

Well who knows... but right now, he's just the first disappointment that Denver had at RB in 2004... second was Quentin Griffin... now they found their guy in Droughns. With Droughns playing so well... Bell will have trouble making much of an impact next year coming back off an injury.

At what point do you look at it and say... yeah, we lost that pick... we could have picked Bell... and we'd have had another Ladell Betts.

There will never be a good answer to this question.

If you concede that Champ was NOT returning to Washington regardless... if you concede that Portis is not only a large part of our offense, but our WHOLE offense to date AND a large part of our future... and you concede that Springs has played so well that Champ is not missed... if you concede that with the #1 ranked defense in the NFl, we're not 'missing' ANYONE...

... you still haven't proven anything one way or another. :-)

I think the safest thing to say is that if you were to ask the Redskins... at this point, they don't feel like they 'gave up too much' at all.

How many names do you go through in the babybook before you decide to name your baby "Tatum" ?
I know I like the trade. I just wish that we'd played it fast and loose and kept that pick, is all. Denver wanted Bailey bad.
I really should've kept my trap shut until the end of the season, when the totals can be tallied.

exactly BH. Where in the world would we be without Portis right now? I'll tell you where...We'd be 0-8, mebbe 1-7 and the defense and the rest of the team would be falling apart because they'd know, no matter what they did, it wouldn't make a difference...

Portis is such a great RB, and so very important to this team, I really don't see how any Skins fan can NOT think this was the best trade anyone has made in decades. I wish we had that draft pick too, and we probably should have it. Like TC said, Denver was desperate. Problem is, so were we ;-) Had to get a deal done or Bailey was sitting....

I don't think we will know the full and true answer until 2-3 years down the road. That gives sometime for the honeymoon to end on both sides and time for the pick we gave them (Tatum Bell), to develop.

I think we got the better end of the deal for an immediate impact. Yes, Denver is doing well, but where would we be without Portis??

Brunell and Canidate...What a tandum
:puke:

I don't even want to think about that.....

I think both sides made out well. It will take a few years to know who won.

For now, the Redskins have the edge, even with the pick. Shawn Springs is having a better year than Champ and he is costing us less than half what Denver is paying Champ. The money we saved from not paying Champ and a 2nd rd pick, we are paying Springs and Portis. Basically, we should consider the trade to be...Bailey/Bell for Portis/Springs. That way you are comparing 'apples to apples'. I would take Portis and Springs hands down.

Just a side note to consider also....If we sign Smoot to a contract similar to the one Springs signed, The Redskins will be paying Smoot AND Springs less than the Broncos are paying Bailey. Two pro-bowl caliber CBs for the price of one. My 2 cents

I would agree that some of these trades need to be looked at over a longer term, but IMO this already looks very good for us and a good trade for the ponies.

Maybe today the passing game will benefit from having the sort of back as Portis is in the backfield?

I really would like to see CP get over 200 today, but it also would be good to see some passing (any!) this week.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Washington won this trade hands down! Didn't anyone here see the way the Bengals Chad Johnson turned Champ into a chump in front of the entire football watching world when Cincy played Denver on Monday Night Football a few weeks ago? Granted, he did get one INT off a quick in pattern, but that was probably his only play during the game when he played as a "shutdown cornerback" name implies.

On the other hand Clinton Portis has been, and will continue to be a valuable RB for the 'Skins. Without him, would any Hogs here like to think where the Washington offense would be? Scary s**t, huh?

No you idiot! Their "CP" is different than our "CP!" Besides, I hope OUR "CP" gets far more yards than the 200 he wished for his with his "CP"! But knowing how Cincy's defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier fails to prepare his squad for any road game, it wouldn't be surprising to see either "CP" to have a big game. :x
