The Official Ramsey vs Brunell DISCUSSION thread

Post by BossHog »

Well since it's ALL some people want to talk about, and since some of you insist on talking about it ALL the time... welcome to the official home of where you're supposed to talk about it.

Being that the discussion generally pertains to who should start on Game Day, I have posted it in the Game Day forum. Please direct all commentary, frustration, support, and feedback of all other kinds on the Brunell/Ramsey situation in this thread.

And thanks to oafusp for helping us 'focus our attention'.

Burp.

Thanks for your co-operation.

Thank you, Jesus...and to BossHog. (Not necessarily in that order.)

I'll start it off by saying this.

Because of Gibbs' apparent devotion to Brunell and lack of it towards Ramsey, I think the only way Brunell will be replaced this year is because of an injury. I'll state further that I think Ramsey will be gone after this year...and that the Redskins will bring in another, young, experienced QB next year.

Just my gut.

I think that this will be a great game for Brunell to get it going, get his confidence back(the whole offence for that matter) and put up a big win...at home. We need a big win to get us hyped for the Eagles game. The Eagles can be beat....especially with a good running game and now Trotter is in the middle so, he will be out of place.

The buttom line I´m 100% sure that Ramsey is better than Brunell, I just can´t figure out why Gibbs won´t put him to play but by the end of the season Ramsey would have played in two or more games, I don´t think he´s going anywhere next season because clearly Gibbs said Ramsey is the QB of the future and that he (Gibbs) isn´t interested in trading him he also said Ramsey was going to win a lot of games for the Redskins and this were Joe Gibbs words.
I do believe Ramsey must be the qb right now.

Lets give him time to learn the system...master the system and with a couple more players added, a year under the coaching staff and system. He will be ready. I think Gibbs wants to bring him along.

Now if we drop a couple more games, then get ready for the future.

Is this the "Official Unofficial" or the "Unofficial Official" Ramsey/Brunell message board?

My one post on this subject

Post by Redskin in Canada »

OK. This is my one and only post on this thread. So, I will try to make it good.

1. I am not impartial. I have been a Ramsey guy since last year. The guy is smart, courageous, strong and a hard worker.

2. I believe that Joe DOES like him as opposed to all the gossip and rumours floating around. He did say Ramsey was our future and he would win many games for us.

3. To be honest, Brunell beat Ramsey for the job in the preseason. No question about it. We can blame Spurrier all we want (and deservedly so) but Patrick had its chances.

4. The WORST thing that happened to Patrick was his play at NY against the Giants. I was in a bar in NY wearing muy colours proudly. He broke my heart. It was the LOWEST point of my 34-year allegiance to the Skins.

Sure the loss was painful. Sure I had to put up with a large hostile NY audience in NY. Sure it did hurt to see a Joe Gibbs team play like that. But what was MOST painful was to see Patrick throw out the window an opportunity brought to him on a silver platter.

5. I have said that our OL is not nearly as good as it should be. We did not recover from the loss of Jansen, a team leader.

6. I have tried to think REALLY hard why Joe still keeps Brunell and the reasons -may- be that

a) Given the weakness of our OL, Joe is affraid of more interceptions from Patrick than from Mark.

b) With a weak OL, Patrick is not as mobile as Brunell and he might either get hurt or throw badly or be intercepted.

c) Joe is loyal to his starting QBs, always has been. But this is a player that he picked and someone paid A LOT of cash for. He has to make sure that the guy either proves whatever he an do or give up on him later in the season. There is a slary cap issue.

d) If and when Joe switches to Patrick, it will be for GOOD. Meaning, he will not go back to Brunell.

To end, I can not REALLY tell you HOW MUCH I would like to have that NY game back. I really would have liked Patrick to have had a decent outing.

I do not believe Patrick will be traded. He will get another chance this season AND this time it will count as his stellar debut.

One more thing, I do not mind keeping Brunell as a (lower paid) backup. His experience would be good for Patrick. Mark is a knowledgeable player even if he can not throw long or accurately unless he gets enough time to set his footing.

Enough. This is it.

Go Patrick!!!

Redskin in Canada, this is a very good post and is very close to home for me too!

I really hope that we see Patrick in there soon because I am sure, if it happens, it's because Joe thinks he's ready and he will have everybody's support.

I also hope that Mark is the type of player that will support Patrick and be our #2 QB. We would have a great QB corp for some time as Hass. is a very able backup also.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

It's not a rumor, it's conjecture, and was presented as such. Some people took great offense to the statement, and it's logic was forced to be defended.

Fortunately, I wasn't the one who said it.

But, I know the guy who did, and he is certainly not a fool. And the people attacking his statement have not proven themselves wise, at least in this setting.

Anyway, I don't think Ramsey will play this year, baring injury to Brunell. If he hasn't gone in yet, what set of circumstances would bring him into the lineup?

Gibbs already stated that he wouldn't put Ramsey even if we are out of contention.

Why? I mean I know you guys are paying him a s!!t ton, but why wouldn't you make a switch if Brunell isn't getting it done?

The messge, which comes from your own signature, was not intended at you but to those who spread irresponsible rumours (not conjectures).

Of course Joe will support his tsarting QB whoever that might be. What else did anybody expect???

He would try to get pressure from his QB. He would try to get the RIGHT atmosphere between his players. He does not want ANYBODY under cutting anybody else. He wants a cooperative and loyal locker room.

He would have said the SAME things in support of his starting QB even if it had been Ramsey himself.

For the record and to stop this idiocy about Joe not liking Patrick, Joe has never said he does not like the kid.

Like me though, we hated the way Patrick played against NY. Even Patrick agreed to that. Do we dislike him for that, hell no!!! He had ONE bad game following a bad pre-season. But he is our future, our NEAR future. No doubt about it.

I disagree, but it's off-topic.

Let's just leave it at this:

A rumor is spread as fact or inside knowledge.

The statements in that thread were not only hyperbole, but were very specifically crafted as being an "opion based on guesswork" because, as oft-mentioned, as fans we have "inconclusive or incomplete evidence."

The statements are not being crafted that carefully. If you review the threads, you will find all rumour and not guarded opinions with a whole bunch of caveats.

But let us agree to this: Joe Gibbs has expressed in many ocasions his support for his QBs. He has never made any statement that could be regarded as derogatory or even "not liking" Patrick.

All stories to the contrary, are at best uninformed guesswork or, at worst, rumour and gossip.

If you are going to engage in a constructive discussion of this issue, I do not mind it at all. But a one-line sarcastic post does not elevate the level of our exchanges.

Let me offer some food for thought: What if...

What if after all is said and done, Joe gets the last laugh.
What if the OL starts giving enough time to help Brunell set his feet and throw accurately?
What if Joe ends up proving ALL of us wrong???What if things start working THIS Sunday?

This is Joe Gibbs who marches to his own drum. A democracy of one. The best coach in the NFL. Is it possible?

How do you know I was being sarcastic? Maybe that's how I really feel.

You're using a lot of what-ifs, brother. If we win Sunday, it will be because our defense.

I haven't posted before, I've only read the insightful comments about our beloved Redskins.

Despite the frustration of watching the passing game (i.e. Brunnell), I believe Gibbs is doing the right thing. He is re-building the franchise and fostering a real team atmosphere. For so many years past, the players as individuals have exceeded the team in importance. Coach Gibbs is showing committment, dedication and trust. As have been stated numerous times, Brunell won the pre-season battle. And now, the coach and the team stand united around each other in support of the whole. This is how true championship teams are built. I will always contend that this, above all, is the recipe for success. That said, we may not win it all this year, or even go to the playoffs. But the foundation has been built. And without the foundation, we'd be nothing again. And again. And again. Just like the last decade.

I have faith in our future and will continue to take enjoyment in watching the rebuilding of this franchise, watching Coach Gibbs and the team lay each brick one at a time.

here is the joke of the day. this is a quote from Brunell on NFL.com....

"I am very confident in what I can do and how I play this game," Brunell said. "I see the field better than I ever have and I feel like I'm making good decisions."

:thump:

uhhhhhhh......

I wonder if he watches the film of the games. There is not any truthful way he can make that statement. There is no way he sees the field better than when he was taking Jacksonville to the playoffs. This has to be some type of sick self-motivation to make that statement with his performance over 8 games.

Welcome to our board. We appreciate members like you here. I do not feel that there is a single member who would not share your views.

Some of us had unrealistic expectations with the arrival of Joe. Some of our people in this board were predicting a 6-0 start after the win against the Bucs. I did not but I had hoped that we would pick up the pace on offense much quicker than we have.

It is fascinating that real Skins fans enjoy and suffer every weekend not only for their players and the other fans. They -KNOW- that the job done by Joe and his staff has a vision for the future.

One day in the not too distant future, we will remember these days, as we remember the early games in 1981, as the price for the ticket of admission into our renewed bright future.

Welcome again.
