Amazing potential...
will not be realized unless we get someone new in the game. Even though it seems that Brunell has been making good decisions, Gibbs is forgetting something. Players make plays. It is commendable that Brunell hasn't made many bad decisions, but he also hasn't made ANY plays. He in fact has given the other side game breaking plays.
Good defenses know that they can leave the big play open because Brunell isn't going to make them pay. For the past 10 years, with defenses getting more agressive, the only thing to keep them honest is to make them pay with a big play. We're putting too much pressure on Portis and the line. The line has proven that they can block, but it's pretty hard when the kitchen sink is thrown at them for 60 minutes every game. LBs and safeties lean forward toward the line every play it seems.
Those supporters of Gibbs' decision with staying with Brunell need to forget the drops as an excuse. The WRs just seem like they don't have any confidence in him. They seem to be surprised if the ball makes it to them. They are so used to the ball being floated they always feel the are going to be nailed. Brunell hasn't thrown a single ball where the receiver has been given a chance to make a move, so who blames them for feeling a big hit coming every time the ball gets there. QBs are leaders, and Brunell as leader need only look back and see that no one is following.
Gibbs made a great adjustment to zone blocking. If Portis can learn to follow blocks on more standard running plays, it would give Gibbs a lot of room to mix things up. Oh yeah, a passing game would do that a lot more. Portis might have broken 200 yards today if we could get the LBs from crowding the line and the safety in coverage.

This supporter of Gibbs has learned that Joe Gibbs usually knows what he is doing. Maybe Ramsey will play next week. If not, then it means that Gibbs thinks Ramsey probably can't do any better.
We'll see.
How can he do worse?
Unless Ramsey is very bad at handing off the ball, I think there is a slim chance that he would match not making any plays while giving up TDs for the other team.

Gibbs always makes halftime adjustments, His adjustment today was wait until he has a QB that can handle the pass plays before he runs anymore.
To still win the game with that kind of adjustment just shows the type of coach we have.
Remember the starter takes ALL the snaps in practice, maybe Gibbs felt it wouldn't be fair to Ramsey to put him in there with no practice but it would also be unfair to the team to let Mark throw the ball

You said it right

You're probably right. Hopefully he does give Ramsey a chance, like he promised in the off-season. If he doesn't, it isn't fair to the rest of the team to force them to play near perfect games every single week in order to be competitive since it gets no help from its QB. It isn't fair to the team to keep a QB that you have already shown you don't trust to throw the ball.

I must respectfully disagree that this game was called to conservatively. The personality of the Redskins as of now is very similar to that of the Ravens for the last few years. The skins have better skill position players so I would suspect them to become better sooner. (Side note: anyone know how many yards brunell may have had if the Wide outs had not dropped so many balls?) I am personally glad to see that the staff has decided to meld its play calling to fit its personel, that is the sign of a good coaching staff.
But back to the main point, the reason the lions have a winning record, even with the number of injuries to major players on their team has been because they have been very good at creating turnovers this season. When you match that with the current passing situtation it is easy to see why the Redskins chose to pound the ball as they did. I am very impressed with the way the Redskins played today, however I would really enjoy to see the passing game become more of a factor as I beleive they would be one of the best teams in the NFL. Not to mention without teams being forced to throw the ball deep down field in order to catch up, it will be difficult for Sean Taylor to accumulate the stats neccessary for Defensive rookie of the year... but that would really just be icing on the cake, so to speak.

Shooo....thought it was another political thread...
Can you blame Gibbs for wanting to limit the passing attempts once we had the lead? Our passing "attack" hasn't exactly been stellar or even predictable.

if you haven't noticed the offense is NOT that good
and PORTIS was the man !!! why go away from a good thing ??
our Q.B. can't throw the ball ...our receivers can't catch the ball ...so if it ain't broke don't fix it !!!
also we finally got a lead and PORTIS was able to show that he is the TOP RUNNING BACK IN THE LEAGUE !!!

TOUCHDOWN .....WASHINGTON REDSKINS !!!!
Faith in Gibbs...
although I think he's being too cautious. I do realize he's been out for a decade, and he definitely is a winner, but I'm just impatient. Surprisingly we're still in the hunt, but it may be too late considering how much tougher our schedule gets.
As for:
My earlier comment:
Jaws said it tonight on Countdown. Manning's receivers, esp. Harrison love the fact that they are able to avoid tackles and make moves after catches. I don't recall the last time Brunell hit anyone in stride where they could make a play or at the very least protect themselves down the middle. Ronnie Lott, Brian Dawkins, John Lynch, and Rodney Harrison are current or future hall of famers that made their name by making people doubt their QB.
