back to the original topic of this thread: lousy officiating.
i think we can all agree that there have been some mind-bogglingly badd calls against the skins this year. however, there are every year, and in every game across the league. (i'll address what needs to be done about this later).
that being acknowledged, there is simply no contesting the fact that two victories (cowboys and packers) have literally been stolen from the redskins due to insane (and non-reviewable!) penalties. do you realize what difference those 2 games makes???
2-5
instead of
4-3
that's right ladies in gentlemen- in Reality, in terms of what Actually Happened in Real Life and not just In the Refs' Heads, the redskins are 4-3. wow. instead of being poised to fight into the postseason, it's all over for the skins already. even with the absolutely pathetic mark brunell, who needs to be shot, at QB.
what recourse do we have? we should be able to sue the refs for ruining our season. failing that, we should at least be able to take out our aggression on them, by beating them senseless.
in any case, clearly there is an league-wide epidemic here, and it seems to get worse every year. there are some extremely obvious things that need to be fixed immediately- things that make your head hurt trying to understand why they haven't been fixed already. for example:
*PENALTIES ARE UNREVIEWABLE/UNCHALLENGABLE
this makes absolutely no sense. everyone knows that a penalty can and does affect a game just as dramatically as any play. how many games would be saved if the coach could challenge the penalty and prove it was wrong? what is the point of this rule, to protect the refs egos? it doesn't make sense- everyone knows that a penalty is a judgement call just like anything else they call (such as it is a catch? were his feet in bounds? was his knee down? etc). why this particular kind of call gets an exemption is inexplicable and inexcusable.
*LIMITED CHALLENGES, EVEN WHEN THE COACH WINS THEM ALL
will someone please explain this to me? when a coach wins the challenge, he is in effect penalized for proving that the refs made a mistake. he might need a challenge later on, but can't do it because he already had to waste them on correcting previous ref mistakes. please, give coaches their deserved right to challenge as many times as they get it right.
now, those are inarguable, obvious things that need to change. however, they will only serve as a bandaid on a severe hemmorage. the league needs to completely revamp how it goes about officiating. here is my proposal:
refs should be full-time employees, not just working on sundays. they should have to practice, just like the players. a group of refs would be assigned to every team, and would attend all their practices, and officiate the practices. aside from the obvious benefit of honing the refs' skills and keeping them sharp, it would have the added benefit of remarkably reducing penalties during games, because teams that practice with refs tend to have much lower occurences of infractions. this makes great sense for everyone involved.
the only problem that would have to be avoided is that the refs that work with a certain team should not ref for them during the real games. that shouldn't be a problem to work out.
anyways, that's all i have to say about that. in my opinion, it's inexcusable for the league to continue allowing games to be decided by all of this horrible officiating.
Okay, everybody...out of the pool.
Post Cop is on patrol.
"Gambit Spotting" is an official Hogs.net sport, and NikiH is the wife of a Mod.
Can I get out of the pillory now ?
Nice post, though.

There has been a lot of conversations about the stupid refs. I hate them, we all hate them, they suck! Is that on topic enough??
I think they really have something against us, and it's proven by this weeks bogus call at the line that they waited to throw the flag on. If we hadn't scored they would have not worried about it! JERKS!
Oh and TC did a good thing by calling Gambit out. BossHog and our mods are very busy people. He just pointed out something that it may have taken them more time to get to! Good job TC. You when the "Where's Gambit" award. One day we'll have enough posts that he can have his own little book.

Niki, I'm blushing.
Oh, wait. My bad. (Did I say that right ? I'm kinda old.)
"Yes, I agree. The officiating is bad. Bad, bad refs. They suck. Booo."
There.
Better ?

A lawsuit against the league????What are we, the Raiders?
Penalties should be challengeable.
Practice for refs sound good.
Salut, G-man!! Fight the power of the "off-topic" insurgents!!!!
However, because it IS a "league-wide" crisis, some might argue that each team plays with the same amount of risk "on any given Sunday", which makes the playing field level.

You messed that phrase up. It's supposed to be "that flip-floppin' monkey-lickin' rag-tag evil DemocRRAT Presidon'tial SNAKE!!"
Or maybe alot of you Skins fans dont realize that alot of the moves you have made the past couple of years or so have kinda doomed you team or is sending it in the wrong direction.

Kinda like Dallas hiring a never-to-be-nfl-ready backup QB in Henson and a 56-year-old starting quarterback. And also like passing up on Steven Jackson for a much lesser quality back. . .hmmm

Funny one day Sam brung into the Barbershop a preseason stat of the 3 skins QB and the 3 Cowboys QB's. He said that was in insight on things to come. Some customers laugh, but the barbers that know him just were quiet.
I guess he was trying to prove that old but QB in Dallas, and those two sitting on the bench in Dallas would be better then the 3 skins QB's. Maybe you guys should put in Hasselback he did have the better stats for you guys.
So what the Cowboys passed on Steven Jackson, If he was in Dallas who is to say he might have gotten hurt like Julius.

You guys should've picked him up.
Jackson: 5.7 yards per carry with a touch.
Jones: 3.2 ypc and no touches.
Come now. Admitt it, it would've been nice to have that guy.
Yeah it would have been nice, but remember he is spelling for Faulk. Also the draft is full of players that were missed by lots of teams. But since you guys give up all your draft picks for free agents then you should feel the pain also.I have no doubt that Jones will be a good running back for us in the future. That pick from Buffalo will be a top ten pic, which will also help us build our future.
