Ciao, Chidi!

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Ciao, Chidi!

The Dolphins made official on Wednesday what had been a foregone conclusion when they terminated the contract of defensive end Chidi Ahanotu. On the flip side, kicker Matt Bryant is sticking around for at least one more week.

Bryant will kick Sunday against the St. Louis Rams as the replacement for Olindo Mare, who already has been declared out of the game because of the calf injury he aggravated in pregame warmups Oct. 10 at New England.
Bryant made both of his field goals in last Sunday's 20-13 loss at Buffalo. There is not timetable for Mare's return, but don't be surprised if he's out a couple more weeks.

As for Ahanotu, he had walked out on the team last week because he was upset about his lack of playing time. The NFL trading deadline came and went Tuesday without the Dolphins making a deal, but in case you're wondering, there really was no market for Ahanotu. He's a serviceable player, but he's already about 34 years old and just walked out on a team, so who would want to give up a draft pick for him?

In addition to Mare, the other player who missed practice on Wednesday was free safety Antuan Edwards, who sustained a groin injury late in Sunday's loss at Buffalo.

If Edwards can't play, Arturo Freeman would start in place.

Also, tackle John St. Clair practiced on Wednesday and it looks like he'll start someday, putting first-round pick Vernon Carey back on the bench.

-- The Dolphins signed defensive tackle Josh Shaw to the practice squad, filling the eighth spot available.
