What do I say to my friends?

Post by GoldenP51 »

I go to school out in Oregon right now, and I get so much crap from my friends about the Skins. I talked them up and the coming of Gibbs during the off-season but now I am looking like a true ass. They can't really brag much, seeing as they are all raiders or texans fans, but every Skins game we sit down and watch, I have to sit there and take a brutal beating from them about how crappy the team is. I still believe in Gibbs and the team, but what should I say to these Skin haters?

They say stuff like "Gibbs is going to have a heart attack before the game is over" "Gibbs has been out of the game so long that there is no way that he will be able to adjust." I try to shoot back with comments, but before I get to Brunell fumbles it for a touchdown return because the O-line can't hold up. Then another comment slings my way "Your a Skins fan, your used to losing!"

I need help out here badly...its hard to watch a 3 and a half hour game when all you hear is what a crappy team the Skins are. Maybe I should just get new friends because I'm getting depressed.

Weclome to the board, GoldenP51. I'm going to school in Michigan, and I hear the same thing. You know it's bad when Lions fans can (legitimately) make fun of you.

Mostly I just smile and say, "Just wait and see, man--you'll change your tune when we're carrying that Lombardi trophy back to DC." Usually if I'm over the top just slightly, their remarks lose a lot of steam. Also, knowing your stats really well also helps, so you can talk about how Rod Gardner and L. Coles were both top 15 receivers coming into this past week, etc.

Keep your head held high, we can't lose our pride after only 5 games. After all, Gibbs went 0-5 in his first year before finishing 8-8. It means that we'll probably finish 9-7, or you could quote the old Schotty stat from 2000 when we went 0-5 and then won 5 in a row. Anything can happen.

Thanks for the welcome. I do try to state some stats...but the obvious come back from them will be "but you aren't winning games" which is true. I can't wait to move back to DC! They were very impressed when I said the Skins had the number one rushing defense...but they didn't even believe it until they said it Sunday night lol. The funny thing is that when I go to the bars around here, I make sure to wear my Skins jersey and hat...that always gets people to come up and say something to me. I have actually found 3 Skins fans out here besides myself! One of them came over to watch the Sunday night game, but she was more passive than ever in defending the Skins...she even lost faith in about the last 10 minutes of the game and said it was over...that didn't help at all :D

THEIR TEAM
Tell them what is obvious. You are what you are, and you're a skins fan and they can go pound sand. I live in the ralm of Bucs fans....remamber them????NEVER had a winning season EVER in fifteen YEARS. All I saw was orange and white (their colors then). The fans weren't there because they were the champs, the fans were there, because...they were THEIR team.
Tell 'em to wiat, tell'emm history repeats themselves, tell'em.....forget about it, maybe you NEED a team that's invincible.....if that's the case, tell yourself you like another team.
THIS is the class of the N.F.L. THIS is the team everybody else is jealous of...WHY? because we were "firstest with the mostest" and always will be...
Don't make me-you won't like what I'm selling.....

well, the main thing is, don't ever talk smack. I learned that the hard way with a cowboy fan i grew up with. It always comes around man. well, after they win the Superbowl, it's ok ;-)

Raiders and Texans? Ok, the Raiders got some ammo, screw em. Ask the raider guy how it felt to let your coach go, only to have him beat them in the superbowl the next year.. hahahaha

The Texans can't say chit. Tell em to get somewhere before they say a word.

Let em talk. Best thing to do is not watch the game with them. I get pissed enough as it is watching by myself. Anyone who knows me, knows not to ever talk smack about the skins. I get angry, and they don't like me when I get angry ;-)

Seriously though, mebbe you need to put a good butt whoopin on em. I'm serious. Nothing shuts a smartass up quicker than a good butt whoopin lol. Just kidding man. Well...sort of lol

FFA, how is a Lions fan gonna talk Smack? Remind him of the playoff game we beat them 41-10, then ask him how many Superbowls the Lions have. Better yet, ask him how many Superbowl appearances they have! LMAO, a Lions fan talking smack, too fuuny.....

Don't bother to argue. (Speaking as a kid from Hyattsville, who, at 10, used to argue against Colt fans that Eddie LeBaron was as good as Unitas, Jim Podoley was a good as Lennie Moore, and Gene Brito was as good as Gino Marchetti. I was right about Brito, but the rest...)

The game is played on the field.

Gibbs is clearly a superior coach. Rusty banannas.

The team is being rebuilt, and, bit by bit, the machine will start roaring. It takes time.

Wow. Do we live in a parallel universe. The same thing happens in my school in northern Virginia exceot thre are mostly redskins fans and one raiders fan.

Any way, boy have I been there. I used to live in New Mexico. Nothing but Cowboys fans.

Here is what you have to do.

Show up the next day. And try to laugh it off. I know it will be hard, it is for me too. But I garuntee it will work.

While You are doing this check them on every single fact about the raiders game.

Key Facts.

Norv Turner used to be our coach what did he do here.

Gallery Struggling to the point that they are not letting him play Blinside Tackle.

There anemic running game.

Kerry Collins is their QB. Talk about that incident when he got drunk in the bar.

But the main thing to get them on.

Talk about how old there team is. Tell them that Oakland is the place where all the Old guys go when their careers are over.

CALL THEM THE OAKLAND RETIREMENT HOME!!! TEL THEM THAT THEY ARE SO OLD THAT THERE COLORS HAVE CHANGED FROM SILVER AND BLACK TO SILVER AND GRAY!!!
