Gibbs considering Ramsey?

Post by gregory smith »

Just read on ProfootballTalk that Gibbs is considering starting Ramsey. Do these guys just make things up or is there any truth to this?

Total BS

Brunell is the guy, Ramseys time will come.
Gibbs has said it 5 times a week...unless there is an injury Brunell is the starter (PERIOD).

last night on sportstalk 980 he said it again, he thinks brunell is doing a great job, called the dallas game heroic. Doesn't sound like he's going to replace him.

Yep. He sure did look heroic out there Sunday in front of my eyes  It's almost too bad that Joe is so loyal too him. I still think $$ has something to do with it. It sure isn't our future that he has at heart.

i wish ramsey could start, i liked brunells peformance in the dallas game but... really besides that... the two games 1 before and 1 after hes looked like the same thing, it doesnt look like the offense clicks with him in there what so ever... even in the giants game it looked like the offense just seemed to start clicking and get more confident (maybe alittle TOO confident-int's) but they were getting more yards a play it seemed, with brunell it just keeps seeming hit or miss, like no one on that 11 man squad believes in it... i dont know if throwing ramsey in there would change anything again, you never know.. it seemed all his int's mostly looked like rust from not working with those guys... but see what i want is if were in a rebuilding year as much as it looks then why stick with brunell if we wont win immediately, i would rather put patrick in for the season and see if we need to draft a qb next year or not rather than still have patrick be that unknown on the team til next year and he starts doing the same things

I say stick with Brunell until we get on track. Ramsey is suppose to learn from Brunell. I just hope we pull it together.

Please dont start another Brunell/Ramsey thread. There are about 12 of those.

Brunell is the starter.
The O-line needs to improve on run blocking so Portis can do what he was brought here to do....that in turn will open up the passing game.

Brunell has not done anything bad...he just hasn't done anyting great either.
If the running game picks up Brunell will explode in this system.

I am a Ramsey fan, but it is not the time to call it a season. Gibbs wanted Brunell for a reason and as soon as the running game gets going we will see Gibb's vision of what he intended to bring to DC this year.

There are 12 topics on everything on here. If we stop posting topics that have already been discussed then half of the posts will have to be deleted.

Yea the season is too early to panic. This season I didn't care if we went 5-11 or even worse, all I cared about was if we played better. The division is harder, the NFL as a whole is more balanced somewhat. So being 1-3 isnt a dissapointed as much as the fact that they are not playing well, they make the same mistakes as in years past and have gotten worse over the course of 4 games instead of improving.

I just hope they play better no matter who is in there and I really don't care what the record is.

yeah... i think its healthy to have atleast one of these every week :) im honestly not a big fan of ramsey or brunell... im a fan of the redskins having a good qb at sometime in the next couple of years and i want to know if its gonna be ramsey or not before its too late, because honestly none of us know if he will pan out or not, i'd rather know sooner than later

Sorry...maybe I don't get it...but what has Brunell done that should get him benched in favor of Ramsey...I think he had done a good job...everybody talks about the long ball?? He has thrown it when ask to do so, he hasn't turned to ball over and he uses his feet well to get out of trouble...Why all the hate??

I think it comes down to winning. We all have suffered so long that our patience has died. I know for me I'm a believer in shaking things up if they aren't working. Gibbs said last night that he doesn't believe in that. But to me. I think players react differntly to different qbs. They play differently and perform differently. Not that one quarterback is better then the other, its just chemestry and how they respond. A great mystery in football life.

i dont hate him, he has done good, its just i guess wanting to know what ramsey can do, and the fact brunell has done everything he can but its just the other 10 guys in there with him arent looking sharp while hes in there, i know that has nothing to do with him but.. who knows, any spark is welcomed, i just wanna be looking at skins-41 browns-17 rather than skins-13 browns-17... offense sells the tickets for a reason haha

One point:
I still think $$ has something to do with it.

That has been said of Brunnell, Ramsey (1st rounder...), Portis, Coles, others.

I'm sure of very few things in this life, but one is that Gibbs does not care how much money a player makes. Cap or no cap.

He will give playing time to the player who can win. Always has. If Brunnell deserves to be benched, Gibbs will do it, and won't bother with the money.

Same with Portis. Nobody plays unless they play winning football. I'm sure there are tough things being said in privatye at team meetings.

Example: Jay Schroeder was all-pro in his second year as a starter, and led the team to the NFC chamionship. Schroeder got a raise to about $1 million per during the off-season. That fall, Gibbs benched him for Doug Williams.

Gibbs will not think of benching Brunell until this season over. I wish he would, I think Brunell sucks but he won't. Don't put up these threads and get my hopes up.

My thing is, Brunell doesn't have much left in the tank. His arm is weakening, his legs arent what they used to be. He's not effective for us now, and he's not getting any younger.

I just have a bad feeling that the running game is going to pick up in the next couple of years, the receivers, the defense, we'll have a Super Bowl calibur team.... Then Brunell is going to retire and Ramsey who wont know the system like he should will hold us back. I mean, yeah he's learning now, but the sidelines and the field are too different animals.

If supported Brunell, but now Ive come back to reality and I see we aren't going to do nothing extremely spectacular this season. We need to let Ramsey go in there and get himself some experience for when the team finally gells and we can go all the way!

I admit that Ramsey is stupid, he makes bad decisions, but he has to either learn himself out of it, or we need someone else. Lets find out now when it doesn't matter instead of later when we're in the playoffs!!!!!!!!

There's no reason to play anyone other than Brunell until your line shows it can keep a QB off his backside and in the pocket for an entire game. Ramsey already knows how to take an NFL beating.

I think some of that blitzing will be slowed down with Ramsey in there. He'll be able to keep 8 guys out of the box. Granted he'll throw 10 picks a game, but hopefully he'll learn. I know the Giants game was bad, but I think if he was put into situation were we could mix the plays up he'd do considerably better.

Question for anyone who wants to throw Ramsey in:

What if Ramsey starts and loses the next 4 games.... What do we do then? What will we have accomplished?

Like DEHog said... What has Brunell done to get benched? So he's not playing like Peyton Manning... we knew that coming in... But he makes very little costly mistakes (1 pick in 4 games).... And he never cost us any of those 3 losses....

His only flaw is he's not driving the offense as well as we'd like it to be driven... and for that I'd say.... Rome wasn't built in a day.. ;)

Ok I'll speak up. I don't want to go back and forth BTP but I will explain why I'm pro Ramsey.
I was orginally against bringing in Brunnell. Mainly because after the beating Ramsey took I felt he deserved this job. He didn't take those beatings because he wanted to. He thought he was securing his job here. Change of coaches and change of circumstances. I know it's the NFL, free agency, coaches change, blah blah blah. I still feel an allegiance to Ramsey.

I now believe he should be in there because he needs experience. If we are going to lose these games any way, I feel like we could be getting something out of it. We could get Ramsey game experience in Gibbs system. We could get more rapport between Ramsey and the first string WR's, and Portis. I will never curse the coach of our team for their decision but I personally would rather see Ramsey.

It's Ramsey's job for the next ten+ years if he's (still) any good. Let Brunell take the beatings until the line improves.

Its very true that brunell hasn't made many mistakes, but he hasn't inspired the team to win. Can ramsey, who knows. Can Brunell, not so far.

Just because he took a beating for us, does not give him the right to have the starting job... alot... we'll I'll say atleast some of that beating he took the past two years was his own doing... because Patty holds on to the ball too long....

I'm not ready to throw the towel in on the season yet...

Brunell is a more capable QB to getting us to the playoffs.. plain and simple.... He makes smarter decisions.... doesn't take unnecessary chances.... Like I said, his only flaw thru 4 games is he hasn't driven the offense down the field enough... and you can't put all that blame on him when Portis is fumbling the ball, the o-lines not making enough holes, and the WR are dropping balls.....

If Ramsey is in there, we're gonna see the same thing... except on top of that we're gonna see growing pains... why do we have to wait when we have enough talent and a good enough team & coaches to do it now?
