Bright Spot !!

Post by SkinsChic »

Rod Gardner learned how to catch this week ! He had an awesome game - I must say I was impressed ! I hope he keeps it up - that's what he's paid to do.

Is it time to bench LC:) Just kidding, Thrash looked great yesterday as well, if we ever get all our WR to make the catches, who knows we might win a division game one day.

It seemed like LC and Gardner reenacted "Freaky Friday" on Monday Night. Talk about role reversals!

I'm looking for LC to bounce back. If Rod keeps it up, we could have a really nice WR tandem.

I still think we NEED McCants in there somewhere !! But yes...if Coles gets that out of his system and Rod plays like he did last nite and Thrash continues to thrive....we should be in good shape with the WR's.

I think the other bright spot last night was Coach Gibbs spreading out the offense more. I think the first few plays we saw 3 if not 4 wide receivers on the field at the same time. This is good because I think the position that we have the most depth at is WR. By continuing to get our best players on the field, it increases our chances for improving the offense.

I think Coach Gibbs will begin opening up the offense more, now that it is clear that Brunell is pretty good on those bootleg plays. With Portis running well, these bootlegs will continue to be effective.

Didn't Gardner catch a bunch of balls against the Bucs too?

He's clearly never been as bad as most everybody on this board wants you to believe. He's a good receiver. Period.

Coles officially dropped about 10 spots on my Redskins list.
Those dropped balls, missed timed jumps, and bad route running were killing me and the 'Skins. One plus however was the blocking he was doing WHEN Portis was eating up yards by the plate-full.
Roddy G did impress me, but we need Coles to step back up. Rod just doesn't have the speed Coles does.

I blasted Rod last week, and I take it all back (for now). He is a great talent, and I really hope he maintains last night's consistency. It looks like he's become Brunell's favorite target. I don't know what to make of LC's performance last night, but it doesn't worry me. I am really curious about McCants. Before the season, I thought he might have a chance to crack the starting lineup. And it was very cool seeing Thrash do well for us. Nice to have him back home where he belongs.

Thrash on Special Teams = Awesome.

Thrash on Special Teams also = the reason DMAC is a spectator now.

Rod made a solid case for remaining in the lineup. I just can't stand his "first-down" celebrations. Since he had a big game last night, his celebrations alone cost us at least 30 seconds of game time, which could have helped us in the end. Oh well.

Rod played his guts out for us, and I was loving him for it last night. However, I can't say that I'm not half-way expecting him to drop a lot of passes in the future. One great game does little to suggest to me that he's going to put in this kind of effort week in, week out (Michael Westbrook, anyone?).

That being said, I really hope he does continue on this path--we need consistent receivers if we ever hope to compete for a playoff spot this year.

Rotation

Post by Redskin in Canada »

I would like to see a rotation of WRs in future games. I liked Taylor Jacobs reception. He is very fast.

I know LC was lect on the sidelines during several plays after he dropped a couple. This is so un-characteristic of him. I truly wonder if he is still hurt and his foot is bothering him enough to miss plays and provoke lack of concentration.

I heard on 980 that LC dislocated one of his fingers during the game. So that probably contributed to his dropping passes. Maybe they should bring 5 receivers and take a hurt receiver out and give DMac a chance.

Let'e not forget who was covering them, LC had a good game too! Gardner had a rookie covering him most of the time.

In the past it didn't matter if ANYONE was covering Gardner....he still missed them. Let's just hope this is a permanent change for Gardner so we don't have to hold our breath everytime the ball is thrown to him.

Like I've said a million times, Gardner had about 10 different QB's throw to him in his career & he's on his 3rd coach. Give him aa break, when he has the same guy throwing him the ball for a complete season and he keeps dropping balls, then he sucks! Manning & Harrison are great because they've been together for years, they have a feel for each other. Gardner NEVER had that. If anyone wants to compare to McNabb & Owens, remember McNabb has been in the same "system" for years, it's alot easier for a WR to adjust when the QB knows what he's doing! Gardner never had that either!

He should still be able to catch. That's his job...no matter who is throwing to him. Like I said...he did good this week...hopefully it's the beginning of a beautiful thing.

I agree (don't get me wrong), but I just don't think he should get bashed for having bad hands all the time. Having that many different QB's can't be easy, everytime you get in to a rhythm with 1, BOOM, here comes another! Different speeds, different angles, different styles! I think with a little more consistancy, we'll see a big improvement with his hands. No??????

Rumor has it that Rod said the best ball thrown his way by a Redskins QB came from Danny Wuerffel. he must have been disappointed when he was released.

what? it didn't have the "zip" of a normal nfl QB, so he was actually able to catch it? ROTFALMAO waffel sucks. thats why he isn't in the league for throwing that "best ball" right now. get a clue.
