I respect Gibbs, and admit he is one of the greats, but his first mistake in coming back was...

Trading for Mark Brunell.

Now, I understand this IF Ramsey is a rook or even in his 2nd season. But not his 3rd. I said from the day this trade was made that Gibbs was gonna regret it. Not only did he give up a #2 for a QB who's best days are far behind him, but he ended up screwing Ramsey. When Brunell got to DC, Ramsey's confidence took a big hit. It's no coincidence that he demanded to be traded in the offseason. Like I said, it makes sense if, such as the Cowboys do, you have two guys who have never played an NFL snap before. It even makes sense if you bring the guy an tell him "You're gonna be the backup". Instead, you brought Brunell in, gave him a big assed contract, and told him he would start.

This isn't fair to Ramsey (And you want to call Parcells a dick  ) Need I remind you that you threw him to the wolves his first two seasons, under SPURRIER, he can't possibly be any worse than he was then. All that the Brunell signing has done is wreck Ramsey and shaken him. He's now gonna be looking over his shoulder until Brunell takes his job again...

In laymen's terms, Gibbs mortgaged even MORE of your future than Danny Boy had already done (Ramsey and the 2nd rounder) for a QB who will probably retire before his contract runs out. I just can't agree with that.

Actually PT42. I happen to agree with you. We should have brought in a veteran backup, and told Patrick the job was his to lose. I think the QB competition in training camp was BS because neither guy got to be the clear starter, and we are suffering from that now. All that being said, Joe Gibbs is heads and tails above the Tuna as a coach, and we are going to put a spanking on the 'Pies' butts tonight.

It was what it was, and it is what it is and none of that can be changed now.

I'll be cheering on our team tonight just as much no matter what!

(Can you tell I'm excited that it's gameday! :D)

Last week's Wilbon Chat House:

Michael Wilbon: ... And in my case, I've got the benefit of watching and talking later about it [with someone], who I'm betting the ranch knows a helluva lot more than you and me put together.

Ramsey stunk.

He doesn't see the field, and every coach and scout who has seen him on film knows it and says it. So, you'll have to excuse me taking the word of coaches and professional scouts of 20 years and more...over yours kisses and hugs for Ramsey. He's got to get better, or he'll be No. 3 with an anvil really soon.

As for Ranmey, the quarterbacks I've talked to think he doesn't see the field. And a defensive player I talked to on the Giants--and I won't mention his name--told me Ramsey holds the ball way too long and isn't good if the deep receivers aren't open...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/ar ... Sep17.html

That's Wilbon, being blunt.

From Gibbs's press conference, 20 September:

"He made some plays. At times we dropped things and other things that could have made him look even better, and could have brought us back in there. I think it remains to be seen how well he is going to play in this offense. We have to see how everything goes with Mark [Brunell], but if you had to guess right now [Patrick] is going to be playing a lot this Monday. I think Patrick has everything. He just has to continue to work. I don't think you will find anybody tougher or with a better arm, and I think he is smart. We have to get all of us to play better together, including Patrick."

Foucs on that sentence:
I think it remains to be seen how well he is going to play in this offense.

I can't remember Gibbs letting slip anything as critical of any of his QB's, and I'm an old geezer. Even when he benched Humphries for being out of shape, lazy, and lazy-minded in the SB 26 season, Gibbs said nothing about it in public.

Gibbs knows QB's in a way fans cannot. He studied film on Ramsey, and chose to bring in Brunnell. That says something. Youth doesn't matter here; this is the coach who sent Jay Schroeder into a Monday Night game when Theisman was hurt. Gibbs knows players, and he has been judging Ramsey. So far, Ramsey has been found wanting.

Maybe later, maybe next year, maybe...the QB's game sense and quick reactions matter more than arm strength. Or else, Mr Quick Release Jeff George would still be here.

If that's the case, then he should have come right out and said so before training camp, so Brunell could've taken all the snaps with the 1st team, and would be further along the learning curve himself by now.

Gibbs:

Very clear.

Gibbs evaluated Ramsey, gave him a chance to make his case in all the training camps. So far, Gibbs prefers Brunnell.

Hurt confidence is not an issue. The NFL is tough, fast, and complicated. (That's why Coach Williams is so happy that Antonio Pierce grasps the defense. There are probably faster and stronger guys, but Williams wants Pierce in the game.) From the hints and verbal slips, it seems that Joe Gibbs feels that Ramsey is not ready to grasp the offense.
