John Riggins

Post by Brandon777 »

I read at another board that Riggins was on a radio show talking smack on Gibbs. He was saying junk like Gibbs looks tired and clueless on the sidelines. Does anyone know anything about this?

Hmm. He made comments on the Redskins Report about Gibbs looking tired and wondering if he can last through the season, but none of the other guys really got into the discussion with him.

I hope he wasn't being disrespectful. At the insiders they made it sound like he was being rude and disrespectful when talking about Gibbs. If it's true I would like this butthole off my avator.

sounds like Riggins to me. He's always been a loudmouth, why would he change now just cause it's Gibbs? Him and Gibbs had their squabbles in the past...

He was on last week and said, "he was concerned about Gibbs staying up long hours and having diabeties." He was also was concerned that after a loss, Gibbs will put his body in danger. He was not talking bad about Joe, he just knows old coach.

He has stated on numerous occasions that he looks worn out, but I have never heard anything disrespectful come out of his mouth. I hear him on local radio every Thursday and he always says the bit about him being tired, and that he is worried about his health.

Yup, he's just worried about his health, nothing disrespectful about it. Just that he thinks he's putting way to much pressure on himself. And it looks to riggo that its taking its toll

I’m kind of curious what he said because George Michael was really, really upset with Riggins last night on the news. He seriously looked like he was about to tear up. He said he is going to confront Riggins this Saturday on his show b/c of Riggo’s disrespectful comments. Michael implied that Riggins said Gibbs has lost his touch and isn’t working hard enough. He further stated that he can testify that Gibbs is actually working harder and longer in these past few weeks than he ever did in his first stint. I’m very curious to hear what Riggins actually said b/c Michael seemed really pissed. As you can tell by my avator and the jersey I wear to games, I’m a major fan of Riggo, love his fiery character and know he sometimes says and does ridiculous things so any information would be great. At the very least, I’m tuning in on Saturday evening to watch Michael and Riggins on tv get to the bottom of it.

I love Riggins, he can say whatever he wants just like you can. 95% of the time his statements are taken out of context. Lets just say he has a hard time saying what he means to say.

Bugel was taken aback when informed of comments former Redskin John Riggins made about Gibbs on his radio talk show. "I really don't like saying this," Riggins said on Sirius radio, "but it's what I think and feel so I have to say it. I don't think Joe Gibbs is right yet. I think there's uncertainty in Joe Gibbs. I think that Joe Gibbs is somewhat pre-disposed, and that he's thinking about other things. I use the term psychological splitting, he's there as the head coach, but he's really somewhere else."

Bugel responded: "I'm awfully disappointed if Riggo said that. . . . If he said that it's totally wrong and I'd say that right to his face."

I find it hard to believe he was really dissing the coach. He made comments about him going all out. And that if he did that for 16 weeks it would take it's toll. So maybe he just said it had taken it's toll. Either way I am definitely watching Saturday night. LOL

What's interesting is I think Gibbs looks better than he did when he first retired. He looked so worn out and out of shape, older, actually when he retired. Anyways, Riggins will say what's on his mind to play the devil's advocate and stir the pot - he's always been like that.

Hey, if Riggins thinks Gibbs is looking tired, then he's just giving his opinion. Riggins just says what's on his mind, and he doesn't sugar coat things. Sometimes his comments get taken out of context. Besides, there's no rule that requires him to say that Gibbs looks wonderful if he doesn't think that to be true. I think Gibbs generally looks better than he did when he left nearly 12 years ago. On the other hand, I've been wondering whether he can hold up for the entire year at his age. He will want to work a lot harder and longer than his body might permit. I hope he can withstand the pressure, but it has to be a legitimate concern, given his age and diabetes.

I may be a Cowboys fan, but one Skin player I've always like was JR...he was a stud. Talk about good old fashion smashmouth football.

As for the comments regarding Gibbs...same stuff is being said about Parcell's...anytime you have a senior coach things of this nature will be said. Gibbs new what he was getting back into, so it does not matter what he looks like. The game has changed in the last few years, so Gibbs will have some adjustments...

I heard the comments, too, and I think Riggo is just trying to gain more listeners by being "controversial". He's trying to advance his career by "speaking his mind", but he's just another one of those guys whose SHTICK is wearing thin.

That being said.... 7 PM on NBC, right?

I thought all the "shtick" had to stay in the talking smack forum. You better watch out there Redeemed! ;-) John Riggins wouldn't be caught dead in the Shtick mobile!

I heard that Riggins apoligized today for his comments about Joe. He said he went overboard. He was drinking on the air when he made those comments from what I understand.

Naw....
I think Riggo was starting to worry that Buges might come after him.

Also, enough with the "shtick" stuff, Redeemed. Isn't that Yiddish, anyway ? That's got to be worth a few confessional visits.

I don't care. To me this was blown out of proportion. One loss and everyone ready to blame Joe what a sad case. I will say this, that if we loose this year it won't be becasue of the coaches. It will be because we do not have the players to perform on the field.

I watched Redskins Report last night.

John Riggins defended himself quite well. He said "George, why don't you play the clip instead of reading the quote off of the sheet and making into a bigger deal than it really is."

He also went on to say "I'm just going by what I see. I hope we win the rest of our games and go 15-1."

"But Gibbs just doesn't look like the same guy who coached me. He looks tired."

"I almost sent him a note telling him to take a break and lossen up. It's OK to go home at 11. He should be over this superstitious stuff because he's been through all of it before and shouldn't have to stay at Redskins Park overnight every night."

I'm paraphrasing but Riggins makes valid points. I think Gibbs looks tired, too. It worries me about how they spent half the show on Gibbs' health. I hope Joe saw the show but I doubt he did.

I agree with Jake. I think Joe looks tired too, and I also thought he sounded tired after the Giants game. But, I'm sure he knows what he's doing. So what if he's tired. Quite frankly, I'm kinda tired too. I think I'll hit the sack for a bit.

He looks tired because he hasn't done this in twelve years. Anybody who works a job where you have to change shift hours seasonally will tell you that, no matter how many consecutive years you've done it, it's always hard to go from working days to working nights. Especially the first few weeks.
In Joe's case, I imagine it's pretty tough to go from working sparingly during the day to working day and night.
Riggins wants to put his two cents in, he should suit up or shut up.
