Pilot: Ramsey likely to start against Cowboys

Ramsey likely to start against Cowboys; Daniels out two weeks

By JOSEPH WHITE
AP Sports Writer

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Struggling quarterback Patrick Ramsey will probably start next week in place of Mark Brunell, who has a strained hamstring. Defensive end Phillip Daniels is out at least two weeks with a strained groin.

And, by the way, Joe Gibbs has had enough of those questions about his value as a Hall of Fame coach.

The Washington Redskins were counting injuries and miscues Monday, a day after committing seven turnovers in a 20-14 loss to the New York Giants.

"You can't make those kind of mistakes," Gibbs said. "We're so inconsistent over there. We make real good plays, and we come right back and throw the ball someplace where you just can't throw it."

Brunell and Ramsey accounted for five turnovers Sunday. Brunell lost a fumble and threw an interception before leaving the game with the hamstring injury in the third quarter, continuing a streak of uninspiring play that dates to the beginning of training camp.

Ramsey, meanwhile, threw three interceptions and continued to look as if he's been put totally out of kilter by the switch from departed coach Steve Spurrier's Fun 'n' Gun offense to Gibbs' more conservative approach.

But Brunell's injury makes Ramsey the likely starter next Monday night against the Dallas Cowboys. Gibbs said he would have to see Brunell "look real good in practice" this week to decide otherwise.

"We'll see how everything goes with Mark," Gibbs said. "If you had to guess right now, I'd say (Ramsey's) proabably going to be playing Monday night."

I bet Ramsey is glad he stopped whining after they signed Brunell, here's your shot Ramsey, let's see what you can do! But again, poor Ramsey has to play against a great defense!

Not many people (the same people who didn't want Brunell and wanted to keep Ramsey in the first place) don't like making him the starter. I don't care who's starting on Monday as long as the stupid mistakes are cut out.

Patrick looked like a player who had lost some confidence in pre-season.

Hopefully, if he can put some games back-to-back we can see him get it back.

I still think Patrick is the best QB on our roster when he plays to his ability. In Joe's scheme with better blocking, he will thrive if he can get the mental part right again.

Your right about his confidence taking a hit. If he can get the team moving early in the game Monday he'll be fine. I think knowing he's the starter will help him to relax and just play ball.

Hopefully we can establish the run for Ramsey so he is not in there in an obvious throwing situation where the safteies play two deep and take care of the middle. It is his chance to show what he can do...

if he starts thats fine , the problem is with both Q.B's we can not become a one dimentional team throwning ever down will not get it done in the N.F.L. and when we do throw W.R.'s catch the freakin' ball.
we really need a BIG and i mean HUGE day from our offensive line and from PORTIS !!!
we have to put some drives together and build that T.O.P. back in our favor.
TOUCHDOWN .....WASHINGTON REDSKINS !!!!
