Start Ramsey
Think I'm crazy? Ramsey will make his mistakes, but it's not like we've been witnessing mistake free football from Brunell. Due to Brunell's inability to throw the ball any distance teams are going to continue to put 8+ in the box. At least with Ramsey teams will have to consider the possibility of a pass attack. Brunell has managed the games nicely and looked far more comfortable than Patrick, but he hasn't come close to scaring anyone with a deep ball. Ramsey had the deep throw to Gardner not to mention the bullitt to Portis on the TD. With the threat of a passing game Portis will flourish and our offense will come around. I'll bet if the receivers had a choice they would choose Ramsey. I would.

Well according to ESPN.com Ramsey probably will start.
Hopefully this vote of confidence and week of practice will do him good. He actually didn't look that bad last week; except for those three terrible throws. Otherwise, he gave the offense a spark.
Hope it works out...

I agree with you except that throws didn't look bad. Infact they looked downright HAWT!!!! It was the poor judgement to make a couple of the throws that looked bad.
Im still undecided on this issue....

If Brunell was healthy, they should definetly start him. However, I'm not ready to write off this game just because Ramsey is playing. Remember, if Gardner catches the ball in the endzone Ramsey's TD/INT ratio is 2/2 instead of 1/3, and we probably win the game. How much different would people be reacting?
I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back.
there's a lot of IFs in every game. if we didn't turn the ball over 7 times, we win the game. but bottom line was ramsey didn't get it done. he choked three times...all very important times. if he understands, or if gibbs can get him to understand that he can't have more than five seconds to hold the ball then we might be ok next week. i don't know how many times i saw him hangin on to the dang thing and dancin around like he was walking on hot coals. no offensive line can pass protect for more than 5 seconds. he needs to learn to be confident in his reads and take the 3 step/5 step drop and release the damn ball. i'll be rootin for him come sunday to play. i'd like to see him start and see how he responds.
I am not happy or sad that Ramsey gets to start. I am optimistic but yet realistic when it comes to Ramsey.
I know it sounds weirds saying this but other than his 3 INTS, he looked sort of impressive. He had a great arm and put the ball in some good spots... again, besides the 3 INT's.
I know that if Ramsey cuts out the stupid mistakes that he did Sunday (which he clearly admitting making. something that many people don't do) that we will win on Monday.
I'm going to support him like a fan should. Go Patrick!

Gibbs said
Note: "I think it remains to be seen how well he is going to play in this offense."
In Gibbs-speak, that is very negative.

That said, on Monday, I will be cheering like a mad man for Ramsey.
On quarterback Patrick Ramsey:
"He made some plays. At times we dropped things and other things that could have made him look even better, and could have brought us back in there. I think it remains to be seen how well he is going to play in this offense. We have to see how everything goes with Mark (Brunell), but if you had to guess right now (Patrick) is going to be playing a lot this Monday. I think Patrick has everything. He just has to continue to work. I don't think you will find anybody tougher or with a better arm, and I think he is smart. We have to get all of us to play better together, including Patrick."
On what Ramsey has made the biggest strides in:
"That touchdown pass to Patrick Ramsey, that took real touch to get it over the top to Clinton. There was a small in there. He hit that pass down the field that was a real big gain for us. But if we could have just been smarter with the ball, we would have had a real good chance to win the game. I think Patrick was a part of making those plays that would have got us there."

I'm behind Patrick as well. His performance against the Giants was not indicative of his capabilities. And I'm beating a dead horse by re-emphasizing his not practicing with the 1st team offense. Maybe this week with the starters will put a fire under his @ss. Does he hold the ball too long...yes. Does he make errant throws at times...yes. Can he be properly coached to correct those deficiencies...possibly. And with his raw talent and toughness, I think he'll get the proper coaching. "I" feel after watching him last season "I" owe him that much.

Ramsey looked like crap... to say he looked good except for his 3 tds... is like saying "that girl looks good if she had more teeth and lost 50 pounds"
Jeff George had a good arm and put the ball in good spots... but he also killed teams by having 3 interception days too...
3 interception is inexcusable.... Ramsey is suspect....
See right now I'm on lettuce... Pretty soon I'll be on fries... After that.. The grill... And after that... Comes Assistant. Manager.... and That's When the Big Bucks roll in!

I have to disagree with you. I'll give you INTs 1 and 3 are on Ramsey's shoulders, but the 2nd one was due to the fact that Coles was held making his break and wasn't where he was supposed to be when the ball got there.

Never compare Ramsey to Jeff George. George would never have taken the beating Patrick did last year. Jeff George came out of a playoff game with a pinkie injury on his non throwing hand, he was a crybaby and a cancer everywhere he ever played. Patrick may not be the answer but he ain't no Jeff George.

We used to have a guy like that...you may remember him. He now is a Jet back up. Trust me guys QB's that make impulse decisions do not last long. Ramsey has ALL the tools, except making bad decisions. I actually like the guy he has serious balls...but to put the game in his hands when you are down a few scores is scary...trust me...speaking from experience.
By the way...may I suggest a Hearst on the sidelines for the kid...

My fellow brethren, I would like to remind you all that, this kid Patrick Ramsey, was also the same kid that led us last year and (sorry mods) goddammit did pretty well for us, even with no protection!!! And I mean none !!! Zero, nill, nodda!!! At least nothing that meant nothing!!! Yes, the kid is a little gunshy. But he didn't show it that much this time around. His decision making was not all that good, I will definitely agree with that, but he also isn't practicing with the 1st team full bore either!!! But if there was ever a coach I would want to put behind a quarterback with his talents.... IT'S JOE GIBBS!!!!! We will win Monday night!!! We better, I have a party going on at my house that night!!!!
I figure... If life is all about the choices you make... Then I choose Redskin football, beer and hot wings!!
I gotta agree with daddywatson. If Ramsey got us through a big chunk of last season with no protection and still managed to keep us at least in the game, think of how he will do with a little practice with the first unit and once he understands that Gibbs places a lot of importance on protecting the QB. Yes, he does hold onto the ball too long, but that can be corrected, yes, he does make some mental errors, but that, too, can be corrected. I think a big part of the mental errors comes from feeling the pressure to get something done, and he tries to force something, heck, even Brett Favre screwed up early in his career (and last season against Philthydelphia in the playoffs) when he tried to force something to happen that wasn't there. Give Ramsey a little slack, give him some time to adjust to the difference that a Gibbs offensive scheme makes, and I think the kid'll be around for a long time, and we'll all be happy.
R.I.P. Andrew McDonough 9/3/92 - 7/14/07. Love & miss you, #20.

I must admit, pulling more for Brunell to heal up quick than to have Patrick start at this point. I'm a fan of both Redeemedskins, but one isn't cutting it right now, and it's Ramsey. I'll give him his props, though. With 8 different receivers and no protection, the man is nice, but in a real NFL system, he has shown very little. I didn't want to see Brunell go down, especially not this early in the season, and I hope he's able to play. However, if Patrick starts, I think Portis should have a busy night. Having our star back carry most of the weight will help boost the confidence of #11, especially in what is the biggest game in 12 years around these parts.
Back and better than ever!
Hey all, I am a PRAM guy. I was suspicious of Brunell making it through the whole season. Not that I wanted him to get injured or anything, but I just doubted he was going to play every sunday. I agree with the previous posts though, PRAM should open up the defense with his long ball. HOWEVER, teams have had two years to learn that if you blitz PRAM enough he doesn't always make good decisions. I think a lot depends on this game. It wont just be the first series, it will be the whole game, if Patrick can calm himself down and make good decisions which I think everyone things he can make, then I believe the skins will take this game. On national television, and Monday night this might not be as easy as one would think.
Oh and it sounds terrible to say, PRAM looked good except for those three INTS, but I did think he looked pretty good, except for those INTs, haha. I couldnt help it.
cheers

Georgetown Rugby and Washington Redskins for life
Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but I feel like my choices at QB are what they are. I can have the old-timer, who can do a first series like nobody ought to know but not much thereafter. I can have last year's "Wonder Pup" who can take a lickin', and keep on tickin' but can't seem to find the underneath guys. I can have Elizabeth's husband, who looks good when nobody is expecting him to play, but falters when the other team has a week to get ready for him.
You know what ? It doesn't matter to me who's throwing the ball. I don't even care.
Just win, baby. That's all.
