Good Bars in D.C.???

Post by UPSGuy »

I am making my first trip to a Skins home game from Florida for the Skins-Packers game. Where are some good places to hang or get absolutely wrecked in D.C. the day before the game? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Happy hour on a Saturday?!? Ladies night?!? Any good concerts that Halloween weekend?!?

It really depends on the type of scene you're into. Some good concert venues downtown are the 9:30 Club (www.930.com) and the Black Cat (www.blackcatdc.com). Both usually have a good selection of bands. For a good Redskins bar, check out Stetsons, near 16th nad U, NW... U Street offers a bunch of different/cool places (I live there so I'm bias) - everything from rocknroll/alternative type places (aforementioned 930/blackcat) to great hip hop joints (Republic Gardens and Bar Nun - both between 13th/14th on U Street, NW - directly across the street from one another). THere are scattered bars all along U that are great as well. However, if you're looking to get loaded in a packed/party part of town, head to Adams Morgan... PACKED with bars and restaurants along 18th Street, NW.. AM is basically all along 18th and Columbia Road - always a major party scene on weekends. For more great bars, head to the Penn Quarter near the MCI Center (7th Street)... lots of places.

I'd suggest the Adams Morgan and/or U Street areas - both offer a lot of choices and are cose to one another. Like I said though, it's all what you're into so it's hard to narrow things down w/out knowing too much.

Hope this helps. I can offer specific ideas if you'd like.

I could give you Georgetown bars from 1985 but I doubt they are still open. "Posers" on M street was my favorite.

NC - Posers is indeed gone. I remember that place though!

Niki - she did sign on but recently started a new job and I've been hogging (pardon the pun) the computer at night. Plus she's in graduate school. I need to get her involved!! I guess I do party a bit! :-) I used to a lot more but 30 is approaching... uh oh!

You guys have been extremely helpful. I plan on getting my Green Bay friend drunk and taking his ticket and giving it to a fellow Skins fan

Well tell Mrs. 1974 I said to push you out from in front of the keyboard! ;-)

And let's not talk about 30. I'm way too close to that myself. I decided no more birthdays for me! ;-) LOL
