The Wave??????? WTF!??

Why???? Why???? Oh, why did some of the fans at FedEx do "the wave"...? I don't remember the score...but it was close and I, personally, was wound tighter than a top. How the hell could they think of doing the wave!!! Somebody help me out here. Where do these toolies get their tickets from???!!!! I was not at the game, perhaps someone can fill me in. The clown that started it should be shot.

I am normally against anything resembling a wave at a football game. In this case though, it actually helped, IMHO. The crowd was dead from mid-way through the second quarter until midway through the third. Even the offense looked flat during that time. After the wave, the crowd sort of woke-up, making for an excellent atmosphere in the fourth quarter.

FedEx will never be RFK, but the fourth quarter was the closest I have seen in at least the 5 or 6 years or so we have been going.

I'm not a big wave fan either, but if that's what gets the fans pumped up....who am I to cry about it!

I'd rather see a wave (and win) each game that have a non-wave (loss) game, wouldn't you?

It actually started during a timeout and just kept going (upper deck first). After several upper deck tries, the bottom got rolling too. The noise was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent. I love how the crowd chanted "DEFENSE" in unison after the Bucs won the toss. I also liked the NFL Films music intro instead of the pop music we usually get. They need to add more Redskins sound bites to the NFL Films bit and they've just about got it nailed. I personally thought they had the band more involved...the whole weekend had a retro/throwback feel to it. I think the Funky Four needs to be retired. When it was an impromptu bit, it was entertaining. Now that its commercialized, it sucks.

I agree on the Funky Four. I liked it until they attached a FedEx commercial to it. Now, with the commercial, they don't have any time to do the individual stuff. I liked it when they would dance in the stands in front of or next to the band.

Clinton Portis can run like horse. Did you see how loud the stadium got when he ran 64 yards for a touchdown? They went nuts; and reguarding the wave, yeh it was kinda odd to see fans get up and do the wave at that time. :hmm:

They were only up by 3 points. But overall, the wave in the fedex stadium is by far the largest wave I've ever seen. When you see 91,665 fans doing the wave in that oversized stadium, its amazing. The fedex field was made for "the wave" simply because it has three levels of seats, 3, circling the entire stadium. So yeah, the wave looks like a tidlewave in the Redskins stadium.

I can't believe what I'm reading! You guys are pro-Wave when we're in a 3 point dog fight!

Chant "We Want Dallas!"....don't do the wave! Somebody help me out here. Surely I'm not the only one that despises the wave. I would have been cool with it had we been up by 28 or something like that. But 3 points! Ahhhh...I'm losing faith here.

It seems like you think the wave is a way for fans to gloat in a blowout. But it's not. It's a way to get fans off their rear ends and cheering when they've let things die down. I say, "do whatever works."

It happened in pre-season as well (ATL game). The only concern I had about the wave is it happened during an offensive drive in a tight game. I was a little concerned that it would distract the offense. However, it didn't and we pulled it out. JansenFan is right though - the crowd was loud as can be toward the end of the game when our D was on the field (for most of the game when the D was out there, actually). That's what I like to see.

Yeah I've heard from several people at the game that the commercial breaks broke the crowds momentum. So if the wave got it going again I say go for it. It's not like they can't cheer at the same time.

And I reiterate, I despise the Wave as much as the next person. It makes people watch the crowd instead of the game. In this case, it woke up the sleeping giant though, the 12th man and made a huge difference in the fourth quarter.

I must admit that when it came by me I sat watching the game and through up one hand in said "weeeeee". Granted, I was screaming even when the crowd was dead, and hoarse by then. I needed to save my voice for the defense.

I don't care if everyone is doing handstands on their seats. As long as we're raising H E double hockey sticks for the opponent and encouraging our Team who are we to complain? I've never been to a game so I dont know whats "hip", or "cool" to do at a game.

CLL - Basically, you stay quiet on offense to let them do their thing (cheering after good plays of course) and scream and do whatever it takes on defense to disrupt the opposing teams offense. My coworkers thought I had Laryngitis when I got in this morning until I reminded them I was at the game (as if my sunburn didn't give it away :-)

)... I pretty much have no voice today. That's how it should be!!

1974, thanks for explanation and I already have that down. I was moreso refferring to the notion in this thread that the wave is out of style, lol. Now I can understand not doing it when the offense is on the field, but even so I can't see it being that disruptive. These guys are pros they aren't bothered by stuff like that. Here in Baltimore, we play in our annual Poly vs City (High School) games at Ravens stadium. I played my sophmore year and I never noticed the crowd. You're just so focused on destroying the other team that anything thats not infront of you doesnt exist. Man....theres no feeling like it.

Gotcha - I wrestled and never heard the crowd (even when in front of 10,000 in the finals of National Preps and states in high school). I never heard a thing. Great feeling so I see what your saying.

As far as sports go, you have to have been in a situation like that to understand it. Being "in the zone" is the best explanation. Sometimes its almost like your not thinking. Your brain is on autopilot, you know what you have to do, you look at your opposition and take it to the house. The only time I'd notice the fans is if a family member or someone screamed my name when I was walking back to the huddle, Id just look up and smile. Man, Im about to quit my job and go back to college and play!!! :twisted:

So I guess Im pro wave and pro any celebration to encourage our team and disrupt the other. Hand out airhorns to be blown during the opponents offensive positions. :twisted:

As far as the wave goes, I love it! No matter who has the ball, as long as we aren't too loud when we do it on offense, there's nothing wrong with it. It showed that we were still into the game and still cared. It's hard to get the wave going, especially with 90,000 people. Whenever we can get it going, I'm all for it! :rock:

The fans pay boat loads of money for those seats and should do whatever they want to do.

I wouldn't say I wasn't a little shocked to see the fans do the wave at the game Sunday. Only because the the offense had the ball. As far as the wave being out of style 90,000 fans who paid for tickets didn't feel it was out of style so maybe it's not. The wave is done during every home game here at Alltel so who knows. The TV anouncers started taking about crowd noise and the 12th man during the wave...took a commercial break and were still taking about it. I think if that is what it takes to get the fans back into the game and to make some noise to so that they are supporting their team then I say wave on :celebrate:

With you Diesel - the wave is lame.... :roll:

It started in the upper deck west end zone. And while the offense was on the field no less....

The whole time I was thinking - sit down, watch the game and be quiet! I'm not a kill joy but let the offense work. Yell all you want with their Offense on the field but not ours. Our stadium fans aren't the best - I see a lot reading, knitting and such while the game is going on. Or you get the jerk standing and yelling through the whole game even though he doesn't know what's going on. Great way to enjoy a game with butt crack constantly in your face. The solution - move to the Clubs. I did and love it there. The toilets still flush in the 4th quarter, no one is puking on your shoes and the fans seem to know what's going on.
