Worst TV Game Analysts

Post by pjp5 »

After listening to the bashing of Terry Bradshaw, who do you think is the worst TV commentator? I have always hated John Madden. I know his great history with the game, BUT I don't think he adds anything to the game. There is no analysis on his part its all "Boom" and "up there" and checking the sweat on the fat guys legs. Come on, fox should drop him like a bad habbit.

It's a toss up between Gumbel and Simms. There commentating skills are about as exciting as a brick wall.

To be honest, I think Joe Buck does a good play by play, but other than him...there isn't a good one out there.

I actually think Troy Aikman does a pretty good job, as does his teammate Daryl Johnston. I just can't stand goes that only talk about when they played. Talk about hte gma e being played NOW. And yes a command of the english language should be a must in color commentary, which is certainly not the case in many of these guys cases.

How about - are there any good ones? Man most of the guys in the booth have as much talent as a smeared bug on any windshield. Tim Green is probably the worst. Collinsworth is as bad - if not worse. Madden bites, Mass does a Madden immitation (badly), Rosen, Buck, SUmmerall and Michaels are all evenly pathetic...How does a person get a job like that?

To be honest I have always loved Terry...but this weekend really pissed me off! He seemed to always find something nice to say when Spurrier was hired...and now he can't find a decent thing to say about Gibbs? Why....did Gibbs cross him some how? He was the one who always advised that we needed to bring Gibbs back to get the team back on track. HE REALLY TURNED ME AGAINST HIM. and then he tries to come up with something nice to say at the end. NOT!

After switching over to CBS during halftime and listening to Shannon Sharp attempt to break down the first half of some AFC games, I can assure you all that he is hands down the worst commentator. He sounds unintelligent and has absolutely no timing.

In their day, Madden and Summerall were the best duo. They're just too old now. I hate to say it, but Theismann is pretty bad, too. Mike Patrick does a great job, but I can't think of anyone else that I actually like to listen to. Buck is better equipped to announce baseball. Collinsworth is extremely annoying. How many more times do we have to listen to Bradshaw talk about all of his ex-wives?

I like Al Michaels, although his routine is getting stale and Madden is bringing him down. I think he has always been one of the best.

There are a ton of crappy analysts and play by play guys. 'Skins fans should know most of them - they've been calling all of our games for the last ten years! hahah.

On a positive note - and this is surely some skins bias - but I love Joe Theisman on ESPN. He's so cocky and hilarious, and he's never afraid to call somebody out. I love it. The only thing better would be if John Riggins was doing color...

I hated Madden the most when he was doing the Thanksgiving Day game. He would go on and on about his stupid Turducken.

Now, even if GB isn't playing, all he can talk about is Brett Favre.

How can you bash Collinsworth for being biased when that is exactly what each and everyone of you is. None of you actually care about whether or not a guy is a good announcer, you just hate everyone who says anything remotely negative about the Redskins, and love anyone who says anything positive. I bet you guys wouldn't have anything but good things to say about Osama bin Laden if he picked the Redskins to win the Super Bowl.

There may be some people claiming bias, but I think most of us don't like Collinsworth cause he is a horrible announcer. You should be happy. We tend to like Aikman in the booth.

summerall was looking especially old last night...when i first saw him it reminded me of donavan from indiana jones, the last cruisade...y'know, when he drinks the water from the false cup of Christ and immediately turns to dust and bones...he looked kinda like that right before his eyes got sucked back into his head... :)

I feel bad, because I think Pat is definitely one of the greater announcers of the last half-century. The problem is that he was old when he started, and has been around nearly that long!

I've always liked Madden, but maybe that's because I've read his (early) books and I know that he's got a ton of knowledge. The more time has gone by, the more he's resorted to the 'booms' and 'bams' and gimmicks rather than good analysis.

Collinsworthless is just that.

My opinion is that American football announcers talk too much, anyway. They ride waves of momentum so much--as soon as it looks like someone is going to break a run they're already yelling into the mic. 90% of the time, the guy gets nailed just as the announcer raises his voice. Then they feel like they have to spew as much out as possible in between any action. Give me a break.

I'd prefer to see a shift to a style of announcing that you find more in European (and esp. British) soccer announcers. They don't mind a bit of silence, they get excited when they should (only a few times a game, really), and best of all they don't exagerate or jump on bandwagons. How much does it annoy you guys when announcers (I'm looking in Collinsworth's direction here) jump on bandwagons and completely dog a team? And then how satisfying is it when the underdog takes over? Of course, usually right about that time Collinsworth has hitched a ride on that one. . .

I really like Troy Aikman, and in the FOX studio I think that Howie Long is still quite good. But nobody will ever beat Sonny and Sam (and Frank).
