Gibbs tenure...

Is anyone else a bit sad about the beggining of this season...

The reason I say this is for the simple fact that Gibbs is up in age. I sincerely wish that he was a lot younger, because this is basically the beggining of an end. Yes, all things come to an end someday but it'll be sad for me to see Gibbs go. This is my 1st time for an experience with Gibbs and I've never been as excited about a coach as I have been with him, and I hate the thought that he won't be our coach for years and years to come. I'd give him about 3-4 years tops... :cry:

he has already said in an interview " HE WILL HONOR HIS CONTRACT OF FIVE YEARS" guy enjoy this while you can.

I know he's not leaving tommorow. Its just that I know that he won't be here as long as we all would like. It really hasn't hit me until now. With this 1st game, its like the clock has started ticking.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Aside from the fact that I want him around to steer us into another championship, I hope that his health isn't compromised in any way. I know as a man of his word he'd stay for his entire contractual length, but I'd rather him leave early if he needed to.

his health is the most important so i will agree with you there .... but he looks better than he did ten years ago !!!
did you say that this will be your first gibbs game ???? man you want know what to think with the time of postion in our favor a line that protects our Q.B. and the stupid mistakes ....oh the stupid mistakes !!!!!! :wink:

Hold on, now...Gibbs is only 63 -> 64. Not quite ready for burial, and neither is Parcells, Bugel, Breaux, others.

He looks happier and fitter than during his last season, as many have said.

Let's be glad he's back, and enjoy every week. As a matter of fact, didn't Gibbs always get impatient when people asked him about the game-after-next? And reply, we just want to win this one...we're not thinking ahead.

Wow man, what a negative outlook! lol Just enjoy it, his first season back hasn't even started and you're worried about him leaving!? Hopefully it will be a great five years! Can a coach get inducted to the Hall of Fame twice!?

It's pretty amazing that a young guy who wasn't around during Gibbs first tenure can understand Gibbs value so much.

First let me ease your concerns. Gibbs is in the best shape of his life. He has diabetes. It's not life threatening. There's a very high % of the population that has it on some level. With meds and diet, it's nothing to be worried about. Gibbs has said he'll finish his contract, and he will.

It was very suprising, shocking, and depressing when Gibbs left us. With the hours he put in, I understood his reasons. It will be twice as hard this time for me at least. I never knew losing. I became a redskins fan around the beginning of Gibbs career.

BUT, This franchise was turning into the Bengals. Gibbs coming back is just what we needed. He will get us back on track, and he will teach Snyder how to OWN a team successfully. I'd bet that he will leave us in good hands (coaching-wise) when he leaves as well.

We are going back to the elite level and Gibbs is going to make sure we stay there for awhile.

Anyways, this five year period can be considered "Redskins Get Right". Joe's not gonna leave a mess here. He's gonna leave us in great hands when he's done, this time.
I'm sure he thought Petitbon could handle it, but...hey. This time, he'll make sure. His departure the last time wasn't planned out all that well. All things considered, it was rather hasty. Now he KNOWS when he's leaving, and he'll plan our future accordingly.
You are getting the opportunity of a lifetime; you're gonna get to see what got some of us hooked on the Redskins for good all those years ago.
How many teams get that second chance ? None that I can think of.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to put a damper of the festivities, just trying to say that I dont ever want to see the guy leave. He hasn't played a down this season, Ive never seen a Gibbs team and Im 100% behind him. Its just something about him and I wish he could be around longer. For some this is the 2nd time, this is my 1st and I see what I was missing.

This is my second go-round with Joe Gibbs as the coach. For my money, this one is already as good as the first. I hate to say it, the first go-round, Joe was a relative "unknown", and when the 'Skins lost the first five games, a lot of us were calling for his head. Shortly after that I think some of us may have gotten to take his approach to coaching for granted, and just expected him to be around, and the Redskins winning, forever. Now that I've been in football purgatory, I can appreciate what the man did in his first stint, and I have learned not to take his success for granted. I think that Joe came back with the idea that he could return the 'Skins to credibility at the very least, while teaching one of the assistant head coaches (probably Greg Williams) the art and science of being a head coach, so that when his five years are up, we will still be in capable hands. So, hold your heads up for the next five years, watch what the man can accomplish, be glad of it, and hope that his successor is at least half the coach that Joe is!

Hey i will be dissappointed like all fans when gibbs decides to hang it up for good. We must enjoy it while it lasts. BUT after yesterdays performance by the defense would anyone be upset i Greg Williams took over for Joe in 4 or 5 years. I can see Williams learning under Gibbs just like the players are and continuing the Gibbs excelence. That is ofcourse if he doesnt leave after this season, A WORRY BY THIS GUY.

After his 3 dismal years in Buffalo, I don't think he will be running for a new head coaching job. I feel the same way, Gibbs is grooming this guy for his replacement.
