I'd go with Matt Bowen. He recovered a fumble, he forced a fumble, had atleast 2 sacks, and was knocking heads all day long

I'll second that. He also lead the team in tackles. Excellent game for Bowen.

Game ball to the entire D they did the job, yes Bowen ans Pierce shined but it was a result of evryone doing their job!!

First let me say that I have been critical of Matt Bowen in the past, but today, he played a whale of a game. My vote however goes to Gregg Williams and the entire D. Think about what we saw today, in terms of aggressiveness vs last year. It was like night and day.

I think Portis also played well of course, but my vote is for the entire defense. I guess Brad Johnson will not be bragging this time next year about how well they did when they came back to FedEx field. They got his pants dirty several times today.

even though Matt Bowen had a great game the player of the game was Clinton Portis. Tell me the last time we had back run for a 65 yard t.d. Or run for 140 yards. u cant

I also have to give my boy Chris Samuels A LOT of credit. He handled Simeon Rice like he was nothin! Way to go C-Sam! :rock:

yeah, lots of game balls to go around today, but in the end, I'll give the nod to Bowens. Gregg deserves it, but he's the coach not the most valueable player =P

Stephen Davis had over 140 yards in 2001... I believe against the Seahawks, and I'd guess it was some time in Novemeber.

Stephen Davis had a 50-yard run in 2001 too, but I don't think he ever had a 60+ yard run.

Gregg Williams still gets my game ball. IMO, it doesn't matter who on the defense played the best... because they ALL played well.

On offense, for me it was CP and Samuels.

Simeon who? What a first game back from the big man at left tackle... ankle shmankle... he was not only solid against Rice all day... there were a couple of plays where he took out someone else's man too.

Hats off to Kenyatta Jones too... he wasn't perfect... but for a backup protecting a lefty's blind-side... he did REAL well.

Toss up between Chris Samuels and Matt Bowen. I had my binoculars aimed right at the Samuels/Rice battle, and Samuels won it hands down. The O-line was outstanding and Samuels more than made up for the last Samuels/Rice showdown. On the other side, I also had them aimed at Bowen. He was EVERYWHERE!!! Special teams and D, he was where the action was. He was simply awesome!

I agree. It pained me to give Rice the advantage in pre-game match-ups.

Actually there was one play where Coles blocked Rice. It was pretty suprising even to the amazing Collinworth who calling him Thrash. And Redskin City I have to disagree. John Hall is our ST star. I think the man wants to be a linebacker. He was very guilty of that face mask but I still thought it was beautiful that he went after the guy at all.

To all of you Bowen haters out there....hate to say "I told you so....but". He's my player of the game, followed closely by Portis and then Pierce.

Okay, it may be too early to starting celebrating how Bowen is going to have a "break out" year this year....but, I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think he's gonna have a monster year this year under Gibbs & Co.!

Let's hope the defense continues to kick butt.

Oh....and just in case you didn't notice.

OUR FIRST TEAM DEFENSE HAS YET TO GIVE UP A T.D. THIS YEAR (including the preseason!!)

They really haven't given up a single point. It was the special teams that gave up the field goal, IMO.

The best part is that he's only going to get better. To be plugged in so late he's done a phenomonal job. He'll become more sure footed throughout the season. When Jon comes back we'll have a solid backup who we'll be able to rotate in the game to keep our line fresh for the entire game.

This year is going to be great, but next year is going to me amazing.

Many of you will disagree, but I want to be different! So I'm going with Joey Galloway for missing that pass that Taylor blew the coverage on! If he makes that catch, it's a different game!

Maybe rotate is the wrong word. But I coulda sworn our backup center was in the game for a few plays. Freidmen is the starter, Raymer is the back up. Maybe Freidmen got hurt and thats why Raymer was in.

Raymer is the one who on mistake stepped on Brunnell's foot and forced him to trip and fumble the ball to give the Bucs their only score.

All Around MVP: Brunell. He was able to pass efficently, work easily with the Joe Gibbs offense, and even broke off for a FIRST DOWN himself on a scramble.

My Defense MVP has to be either Daniels or Griffin for giving pressure all day. Not sure.

Ofensive MVP: I would say Clinton portis, but he was regularly spelled by Betts, so I think he didn't have to work way to hard, so I give my offensive MVP to Samuels for just knocking Simeon Rice out of the game literally.
