Bogus Portis article

Hey, 'Skins fans. I'm a Cowboy fan, but I just wanted to let you know that there's a bogus NFL.com article circulating about Portis. I saw it at a Cowboy board, but I don't think it's funny.

I don't know if anyone's seen or heard of it, but I figured I'd let you know it's fake ahead of time in case you do come across it.

If any of you belong to other WR boards, let 'em know. I hate it when people do this kind of garbage.

Yeah I fell for it too! Call me the fool. Oh and they also posted a link about a fake Cowboys article they posted too.

Oops. Sorry about that. I only saw it posted at that Boys board an hour ago.

Hope it didn't cause you all too much angst. It's a cruddy stunt to pull.I've seen others, and I think people report them to the NFL.com site. It violates their copyright and also misrepresents them.

Sorry I couldn't have warned you sooner. Still, good luck this year. We're probably going to be up and down this year, and if we can't unseat the Eagles, I sure hope you can!

The way I read it, was Portis will be out 8-12 weeks rushing for close to 100 yards each week.

It was Beagle fans, my guess about 12 and 13 year olds, at least in maturity level. That is of course it they were representing themselves correctly.

Hey Boss, you may want to report Gibbs4Pres's IP address to the NFL. I think it is illegal to post bogus articles with their logo on it. Copyright infringement, fraud, and all.

No matter how much we think this guy is a ______ (fill in the blank).... I don't think we need to go running to the police or the NFL getting the kid in trouble....

He was just playing a prank.... and no matter how tastefull or tasteless... in all, it was harmless....

I'm fortunate for two reasons - first - I was gone all day yesterday and wondered why the article would be in the Smack area when I saw it...

Second I saw the URL, wondered and went to ESPN and seeing nothing there in the headlines (which I would think it would be there) went to teams and saw nothing... then it was confirmed when I started reading further

My heart went thud fer a second, but not for long

My thanks for putting the warning up... shows all Cowpokes aren't bad people, just people with bad taste in football teams

I emailed NFL.com about both articles, including the guy's user name here and the post where he was boasting about the articles. Another reason I can't stand Eagles fans in general. I lived in NJ NW of Philly for over 30 years and they've always been the worst.

My brother's in VA and he's a Skin fan, so we have our banter now and then. We have a great rivalry, but it's still a game so we keep it in perspective.

you gotta admit, its pretty believable prank...but no harm no foul...i don't think it's that big of a deal...i should send this out to some of my fantasy football leagues so they don't start him...j/k even though i have him in most of them

I just heard a refenance to this story on SportRadio 910 in Richmond, VA. Guess they don't worry too much about their sources. "Breaking news: CP out 8-12 weeks because of weight room injury."

If you look in the Talking Smack forum here there is a guy who posted it here and claimed to have done the same to the Cowboys.

I notice that the line at most sportsbooks is temporarly unavailable on this game. Someone is getting alot of milage out of this one.
