Well if our line plays as well as it did in the preseason... and he stay injury free... I think he'll be able to handle it.... maybe a little decrease in production due to the fact he can't break them like Portis... but otherwise I think he could be as productive as Davis was for us given the opportunities.....

OK AT I'm begining to think your a closet Skins fan :-k

Before you said
I'm a lifelong Cowboys fan, but since I have both Portis and Ramsey on my fantasy team, I want the Skins to score some points in all but two games this year. I also need Ramsey to get the starting job by opening day 2005.

Now you want info on Betts thought you had Portis?? Tell you what, why don't you just tell us which Redskins you don't have on your fantasy team and we'll take it from there!

Betts .....and he'll be fine.
I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.

DESkins -- to be sure, i'm not a closet skins fans, but fantasy screws things up and causes folks to root for players on other teams. i currently have portis and betts. traded ramsey away. need portis' back-up b/c he is somewhat injury-prone (unfortunately, so is betts!)

B-E-T-T-S.

For once I have to agree with Theesman or is it Thiesman (sorry) Betts follows his blockers, is patient and then hits the hole. He has better vision than Rock, does not shimmy and shake like Sultan and takes his time unlike Morton.

he just can't stay healthy. My 2 cents rock will be here on week 16, betts will be nursing, something.

Hello, AT,

Yes, Betts, but it depends on the down and situation. If Gibbs wants more passing, it could be Morton for most of a game. Consider: was it Riggs, Byner, or Ervins? Most of the time, it was Byner, because he could do a bit of everything, and Gibbs liked his spirit. That why Byner is back as RB coach.

But Riggs could grind out that 2-yard TD against the stacked defense...and Ervins had the speed to open defenses that tried to jam the line.

So who's number 2? It depends.

Actually you're wrong..... His rookie season he played all 16.... only started 12, but that was because he was a rookie, and didn't start the first 4 games.... but still he played all 16

His second year he was out once earlier in the season and then he missed the last two games before remerging in the playoffs.... but I wouldn't label him injury prone just yet....

I'm sure he'll be fine.... and I don't think the Coaching staff is worried too much about Betts, Morton, & Cartwright backing him up.... All of those guys are vets and Gibbs & Bugel will make sure they're doing the job right.. ;)

I agree with your BREAKdown on Betts. But, I'm with HS on LB's durability.

Why?

Gibbs does not use his RB's like that. Some runners liked it, and Riggins loved it because he was fundamentally stronger than big-name defenders, like Randy White. Riggin also loved to turn the corner -- he was a high school sprint champ in Kansas, not a slow guy -- he loved to turn a corner and run right at the CB. No jukes, no slippery moves...just hit the guy the way Don Warren or Russ Grimm would have hit him on a block.

The purpose? Toward the end of the first half, or sooner, that CB began to hurt, and back away from the line of scrimmage.

OK, that was Riggo, and Gibbs modified the offense to suit Riggo's peculiarities.

Gibbs handled other backs differently.

So, is this a fantasy football question, or a real football question? I'm not trying to dig at you; Gibbs runs his teams to win...never to rack up statistics.

Example: in the SB 26 regular season, Jerry Glanville was foolish enough to run the all-hands blitz on nearly every play. Gibbs had prepared special blocking schemes, with an extra blocker, so they picked up the blitz every time. Rypien kept completing passes to the Posse for long gains and TD's. The final score (see the Skins '92 on the all-time NFL stats site: http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/resul ... s/1991-was)
was 56 - 17. About half-way through the third quarter, Rypien was within a few yards of breaking Sammy Baugh's all-time single-game yardage record. Ryp asked to be taken out, because the game was already over, and there was no point in passing for yardage just to break a record. Gibbs let him come out, and clearly approved.

By the way, the Redskins players were angry at Glanville afterward, because they didn't want to run up such a score. Said one Hog, "He just kept throwing the blitz at us, even though it wasn't working, so what else could we do but take the yardage he was giving us?"

If Portis goes down, it will be RB by committee. Betts will get the majority of 1st and 2nd downs, with Morton and Rock taking turns on 3rd. Gibbs will use Rock on short and Chad on long...Usually ;-) Can't wait to see the frustration of a DC when Gibbs has Rock in for 3rd and 2, and throws a 40 yard bomb.

Betts, if he goes down, we activate Mac from the P-squad, then like Scott said, it will be a back by commitee thing with Mac and Simon splitting the 1 and 2 down plays with Rock on short yardage. Morten. I don't think the staff is sold on him as much. Just a hunch. Wrong probably, but just a hunch

Didn't you know AT? All 'Pie fans are closet 'Skins lovers. They switched over in the mid '90s after Gibbs retired and the 'Pies made their run. Now they are torn because Gibbs is back, and the 'Skins are primed for a return to glory.
