BEARS CUT ROBINSON

We've confirmed via a league source that the Bears have cut defensive lineman Bryan Robinson.

Per the source, the Bears tried to trade Robinson before pulling the trigger earlier in the day.

In addition to other Bears cuts (scroll down), Chicago has cut running back Brock Forsey, a sixth-round pick in 2003.

BEARS DUMP ROBINSON?

A new Chicago mole (who has yet to prove him/herself) tells us that the Bears parted ways on Sunday morning with defensive lineman Bryan Robinson, running back Rabih Abdallah, linebacker Bryan Knight, and tackle Josh Warner.

We're reluctant to rely on anonymous tips, but we figured that, if the Washington Post can report cuts incorrectly, so can we. . . .

Note — Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Bryan Robinson is among the released players around the NFL that Washington is evaluating, a source familiar with the situation said. Robinson, 28, enjoyed a solid camp and, like current Redskins end Phillip Daniels, has a good relationship with Greg Blache, the former Bears coordinator who now serves as Redskins line coach. Several other teams are interested in Robinson, and his decision could come today.

He would be a nice fixture to our line. Let's see how this plays out. I'm anxious to see how much intrest we end up having in him.

ROBINSON'S HIGHS AND LOWS

Bryan Robinson was an undrafted free agent from Fresno State who former Bears personnel boss Mark Hatley claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Rams in August 1998. The hard worker made himself into a solid defensive end, and Hatley wound up putting the franchise tag on him in 2001, guaranteeing him a salary of more than $4 million. More than anything, that is what forced general manager Jerry Angelo to give Robinson a $20 million, five-year contract later that year. The highs and lows of Robinson's six-year run:

HIGHS

1. Blocked a 28-yard field-goal attempt by Ryan Longwell in the closing seconds of 1999 game at Green Bay to preserve a 14-13 victory at the end of the week Walter Payton died.

2. Deflected pass by Tim Couch on the first play of overtime that Mike Brown returned for a touchdown to defeat Cleveland on Nov. 4, 2001.

3. Made 16 tackles in season-ending game vs. Tampa Bay in 1999.

LOWS

1. Second DUI arrest in four months Oct. 18, 2002, led for him to be inactive the following week at Minnesota, bringing his consecutive games-played streak of 59 to an end.

2. Fall at home in May 2002 broke both of his wrists, leading to surgery on the left and making him less effective.

3. Arrival of coach Lovie Smith, who wants all of his linemen to rush the passer, made him a bad fit in new scheme.

ROBINSON HEADED TO MIAMI

A league source tells us that the Miami Dolphins could be signing defensive lineman Bryan Robinson on Tuesday, if Robinson passes a physical.

The move would reunite Robinson with coach Dave Wannstedt, who was the head coach in Chicago when Robinson was signed as a free agent in 1998.

The Fins primarily will use Robinson on the inside. He played both tackle and end during his six years with the Bears.

Dolphins Sign DT Bryan Robinson

The Miami Dolphins agreed to terms with defensive lineman Bryan Robinson on a 1-year, $1.5 million contract on Monday, one day after he was released by the Bears.Robinson, who Miami plans to use as a defensive tackle, although he can also play outside, has missed only one game in the last seven NFL seasons, all with Chicago.Robinson, 30, has only two sacks in his last 31 games, but has good strength and has recovered from having broken both wrists in the 2002 offseason.
