Who is your Baseball Team?

Post by skin_to_the_bone »

I was Born and Raised a Redsox fan and proud of it. The Giants are my NL teams. Like in football, I love the Skins and the Jets are my AFC team, but if either were to lock up in the World Series or Superbowl it would be The Sox and Skins I would ultimately pull for every time.
I have travelled the net and found the Redskins promise land. This is, by far, the best site out there for Redskins/NFL News, Notes, Opinions, and so much more.

Baltimore Orioles. But I've said it before, when a baseball team comes to D.C., they will be my new #1 team. Although, the Orioles will still have a place in my heart.

I have always been an Orioles fan! If a team comes to DC I will root for them but still be an O's fan! I am also united against the Yankees! I have become a Huge RedSox supporter! I hope they can take out the Evil Empire this year!

Washington Senators. Period. Mickey Vernon was my first baseball hero, and Frank Howard was my last.

And I was brought up to root against those interloping Baltimore Orioles, allowed into the area by the kindness of Clark Griffith, The Grey Fox, owner of our team. (Also by bullying from a Baltimore beer company, which threatened to pull their advertising from the Nats if Griff blocked the Browns from moving to Balitimore.)

Baseball is a wonderful game, but the time I went to Cooperstown, I felt like they had barred the doors. No place for me, except a spot where they have preserved the preidential box from Griffith Stadium, and another spot dedicated to Walter Johnson, part of the first group voted into the Hall of Fame.

To repeat myself: the baseball season doesn't start until the President throws out the first pitch in Washington. It hasn't happened in more than 30 years, so those seasons all have an asterisk.

I've been a Yankees fan ever since the days of Don Mattingly..... and I was disappointed ever since he left the team and never got a ring... Hopefully the guy finally gets one this year (crossing fingers)..... Right now, I root for the Yankees and anybody else who plays the Orioles... Until Peter Angelos croaks... or he gives up his fight against a team in DC.....

Once we get one here in DC or NOVA.... Then i'll be rooting for them...

Well, SkinsChic, you're a young-un. No, I'm too young for Cecil Travis and Buddy Lewis, but I remember the fuss when young Calvin (The Shameful) Griffith began to take more control of the team, and fired Bucky Harris (third go-round for Bucky). It was down-hill from there, until 1960, when Calvin moved the team to Minnesota. I was in the 6th grade, and we cheered when it was announced that the "Twins" first games had been snowed out.

Our beloved Nats, a founding member of the American League. playing in some minor-league town in Minnesota. Snow during baseball season. Served 'em right!

The New Senators (that's what we always called them) were never quite as close to anyone's heart...but we all loved it during the '67 season when the AL (10 teams, no divisions, no wild cards...winner to the World Series) went into the last two games with Boston, Chicago, Balitomore, and somebody else all virtually tied. The Nats swept Balitimore, and it was almost as good as winning it all.

I am an Orioles fan. I always will be. I'm actually against another team in this area but for selfish reasons. Not because it will take away from the Orioles franchise, but because I don't want to deal with the traffic and chaos it would cause around here. So if they come I will still cheer for the O's.
I grew up in MD and if the Ravens had developed when I still lived there I wouldn't have given up on the Skins either.

don't mind me, i'm an idiot, and this is in no way meant to be directed at anyone in particular.....SCREW BASEBALL! ;furious; i'd rather watch paint dry. b-assball ranks right up there with nascar and golf at the top of the "watching paint dry" sports.

LOL I'll give you golf hailskins. While baseball isn't as exciting as football by any means I still like to watch it.

 Ah...golf! Good point.

Personally, I love baseball as well as football. Different principles, to be enjoyed for different things.

Baseball is fabulous, because no side is finished until the last out. Nobody runs out the clock while sitting on a lead. And, in true baseball, non-DH baseball, everybody hits and everybody fields. Everybody gets a chance, and everybody gets tested.

Everybody gets the same times to hit, approximately...

(Note that Kevin Brown won't play because he can't field with that self-broken hand...there is no place to hide.)

Just a different game, made for pauses when you can chit-chat, or listen to SterlingKay and Steiner tell stories. (Note: Sterling-Kay is my name for the Yankee's radio guys..."it is high...it is far ...it is..."; Charlie Steiner replaced one of them, who moved to TV. Steiner can't seem to keep up with the acttion, but he tells nice, long, stories.)

*

And I love ice hockey, except for the trap...it's ruining the game.

*

And soccer. A lot more happens than just the goal or two they score. A 0-0 game (OK, "nil-nil" for the those who really know) can have a lot of action. One of the best times I ever had watching a game was the second MLS Cup, in RFK in a chilly drizzle. One of the last times RFK was packed, and it seemed almost ready to fly from all the noise, and from the Barra Brava and Screaming Eagles sections.

Lets go O's........third place is like first in the AL - East  At least we got our pitching somewhat straight by bringing Ray Miller into the fold. Ponson is looking solid again, Cabrera has come out of nowhere to lead the league in Rookie wins. Rodrigo Lopez is pitching well. Our offense is back on track. If we can get some decent pitching in between those three guys, then our bullpen won't be so tired by the end of next season.

I'm a cubs fan in the NL. I went to my first baseball game at Wrigley as a kid, 'nuff said. I did grow up an Orioles fan but since Angelos dismantled the team following '97 and his continued blockage of a team in DC, I'm starting to really, really hate them (which sucks b/c I love Camden Yards). I usually stick with a team no matter what but Angelos a total waste. Furthermore, Bud Selig has grated my last nerve so I've decided if DC doesn't get a team, I think I'm done with baseball altogether.
