Re: The Trent Thread
My original opinion was that LaCanfora made a mountain out of a molehill and that other sports media ran with it without the least bit of vetting the story. But Trent is skipping mandatory minicamp and Bruce Allen isn't saying why. Apparently his teammates think he will be back for training camp next month. It was NFL.com who initially reported the "Trent wants more money" line. It was LaCanfora who initially reported the "Trent is displeased with the medical staff" line.riggofan wrote:Again, I just think you're asking some questions, making judgements without really knowing the facts of what happened. Personally I am more inclined to believe it's Trent is 30 years old and the best at what he does and he doesn't need to attend minicamp. Does he want more money? Probably, but what NFL player doesn't? With Bruce Allen we're unlikely to ever know the truth. One recurring theme in the off-season is there's always some negative story reported by LaCanfora and we fans always overanalyze it because there's nothing else to talk about.
I quit personally vesting myself in players after Sean Taylor. Whatever happens happens.

Re: The Trent Thread
I think it is likely that Trent W. is furious with the Redskin medical staff. That's what Gruden says he has heard. All other "questions" seem without any foundation, which is astonishing, considering how quickly this thread went into a collective rage against Williams for being greedy. Any Redskin fan should have noticed, after all these years, that Trent Williams plays hard every season and has played through some bad knee injuries.
Who is Jason LaCanfora? I remember the name...wasn't he a Post sports reporter? If Snyder/Allen took his press pass, then he must have been reporting honestly about this worst ownership in professional sports. Now, those of us who have been Redskin fans since the early '50s will remember George Preston Marshall, a previous owner of the Redskins. During WW2, Marshall was found to have taken much of the money from game played to benefit an Army-Navy fund for families of casualties. Shirley Povich, the sports editor of the Post, broke the story so Marshall had the team sue him. (Povich won, of course). Nobody writes like Shirley Povich, but, if Dan Snyder hates hates LaCanfora, then that's a small step toward being-like-Shirley.
If it's a choice of believing Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder, or believing Trent Williams, I tend to believe Williams.

If that's the case, his issue is with the physicians, not the team. smhriggofan wrote:I don't know, man. That just seems like a harsh statement without knowing the details exactly. Re: The Trent Thread
Trent needs to get over himself and learn how to make an appointment with a specialist if he is concerned about a bump on his head. Big dummy. This is where not drafting correctly with a backup Tackle somewhere on the roster would help these people making the draft day decisions. How about moving up in the draft to take a proven stud lineman where the game of football is really won or lost. In the trenches. That is why it is called a game of inches. But hell why not add another running back. I like Love to be on the team and is a good pick but not the correct pick. Tackle should have been addressed. We need a really good Tackle ready to step in the very worst way. It could actually be what keeps this team from making the playoffs if both starters if Trent is even going to stop being childish will start at all.
Geron Christian? 3rd round
Amazing. Wonder if Danny wanted to trade up and get him as well but was talked out of it and still took him 3 rounds too high.?
Time to make a move through trade or something to bring a real Tackle in here. Danny call me. I'm not cheap but i will fix this team. Like Joe Namath I guarantee it.

According to the stories, Trent went to his own doctor and had the surgery months ago. Seems to have been non-cancerous. It appears that he is furious that the Redskin medical staff examined him, before that, and either missed something or ignored what they found.Sonny9TD wrote:Trent needs to get over himself and learn how to make an appointment with a specialist if he is concerned about a bump on his head. Just doesn't make sense. If he went to the doctor what's the deal? Redfskins medical staff can't determine one way or the other. What are they supposed to do? Probably tell him to get it checked out if it bothers you enough. I don't get it. That kind of thing is on Trent to get checked out.
Re: The Trent Thread
Could this be a bit of a bigger play for the teams to take greater responsibility for the all-round health of players, beyond sporting injuries? I'm really not sure where those boundaries actually lie at the moment
Re: The Trent Thread
Sounds like it.ferryrich wrote:Could this be a bit of a bigger play for the teams to take greater responsibility for the all-round health of players, beyond sporting injuries? I'm really not sure where those boundaries actually lie at the moment
Sounds, immediately, like the Redskin medical staff gave Trent a complete physical at the end of the season, saying, "Trent, you're in perfect health, except for the knee". A few months later, Trent sees his own doctor, who spots a cancerous growth on Trent's scalp. Trent has surgery to remove the growth, which, luckily, turns out benign. Trent is furious at Redskins medical staff for missing the growth or for spotting it but not telling him. Both would indicate Redskin medical incompetence edging into malpractice.
That's what the evidence -- complaints, timing, and surgery -- suggests.
What we know, or should have learned by now: (1) Trent is a gutsy player who never complains even when he is injured; (2) The Redskin off-field organization is a deep and stinking pile of sleaze, from little dan snyder and Bruce Allen through every staffer. (No, not the coaches. They have a tough job, but they endure) "Get a a season ticket now because the wait-list stretches back to 1965. Sold-out games. Let's sue season ticket holders who lost everything in the Great Crash and Recession of 2008. Dan Snyder is passionate about winning and that's why he has fired every coach connected to the Cooke era. Vinny Cerrato. Vinny: Dan Snyder has matured...".
So, it sounds like players -- that's players, plural -- distrust the NFL's medical staffs. Even though they have little power, especially when compared to the MLB players' union, they understand why Trent is angry.
Re: The Trent Thread
Here's the deal. Nobody knows what happened with this bump on the head but Trent. If the Redskins medical staff saw the growth and said nothing then Trent has every right to be fizzed. But if Trent knew about the growth first and didn't go see a specialist then he has no excuses. The Redskins medical staff are not specialist or know anything about abnormal growths on anyones head. Speculating on why Trent is mad is just that speculation. If Trent found the growth first which I would think he did then he needs to be proactive and get an appointment with a specialist period.
The only scenario where Trent should be mad is if the Skins medical staff found it first ( highly doubtful ) and said nothing to him about it. If Trent knew about it first then all this is on Trent to get it looked at by a specialist. Going to see the redskins medical staff about something like that other than maybe for an opinion is not smart from the get go. If he did and apparently he did for some reason we have no idea what was said. The only thing that should have been said is "Trent you need to make an appointment with a specialist as soon as possible and find out what that is. Ok buddy. Now go make that appointment".
But nobody knows what was said but Trent and he should have handled this correctly. Why was the Redskins staff involved at all with this specific concern?
