Players can get a feel for the speed and the contact of the NFL game without playing every down. Moreland seems to have instincts and those can't be taught. So, hopefully Gruden sees that and gives him game reps.

Exactly. He must have been playing Tackle in camp and getting his are handed to him. That must have been where the he was not looking good came from. He was brought here to play guard like you said. I guess he gets first shot at it being a 1st rounder and all. 5 bucks says Wes Martin is stronger than Flowers. Can't be much worse in the agility department either. We'll see

Everything I've seen on Wes Martin compares him to Shaun Lauvao which means he's more of a zone blocker than a mauler. To be honest I haven't watched any tape of him to know. I have seen Flowers put plenty of defensive ends on their asses when they tried to bull rush him. The other thing is inside at guard he can always get help from the center. Scherff doesn't need help on the other side. I see this working out.

And quite the contrary, Gruden runs the ball a lot- just on the most predictable moments like on first down. He lead the league in first down runs if im not mistaken... And due to the lack of creativity, it was nearly always for little to no gain. So we are in the hole on 2nd down more times then not. Kind of hard to commit to a run game at that point.

Predictability just seems highly overrated to me. A team is either going to run the ball or the throw the ball. Is any defense ever really *surprised* that a team is running the ball on first down? Much less a team with OUR wr corps last year?

Not saying you're completely wrong about that comment, but I think its a bigger issue than just "Gruden is predictable". The offensive line should dominate. The defense knows its coming, and you go out and do it anyway. You dominate the line of scrimmage and impose your will on the defense. Or you have a terrible offensive line like the Giants, and you have a RB like Saquon Barkley who just goes out a kills it anyway.

I agree with this. I know it's a passing league now but even so I always harken back the days of of 50 Gut ... Everyone knew it was Riggins off-tackle and they still couldn't stop it.

Had the exact same thought. We all knew it was coming, and nobody was complaining that Gibbs was "predictable".

Adrian Peterson may not be the League MVP he once was but if he can't run the ball for you the problem is not him. He played 16 games and averaged 4.2YPC last season with no passing game and behind a makeshift line.

No doubt. Just think what that guy could have done with a healthy o-line all season and with teams having to defend the pass as well. I think its safe to say nobody was remotely respecting our passing game once Alex went down.

He would run on first to much- and then abandon it.

We ran a lot when they knew it was coming, and AP would barrel for the first sometimes. Its not just that he ran mote on first then anyone but likely the run play called. The 3rd and longs took the run out of the plan a lot.

And then add to that a healthy Guice and a healthy Thompson ... I can't wait to see what we have in Guice. I like to think there are going to be some positives to the season unless or until proven otherwise. And if Gruden truly believes his job is on the line he's likely to be less conservative.

True and funny but we have to hope he is a week one starter. We need that kind of talent at more than a couple of positions. The Skins don't have nearly enough players other teams envy.

hah! I'm just busting balls. I actually appreciate the enthusiasm and optimism, and I'd love to see a guy like Jimmy Moreland be a real score for us.

Realistically though... a week 1 starter? Did Kendall Fuller even start week one?

Who's balls are you busting? The QBs for the Redskins getting picked off or someone else? It was busting you said you were doing with balls right? I think that's right. You forgot NC State and West Virginia James Madison plays. Just saying. Let's not be so negative about a CB picking off passes in the pros too.

If you can run a 4.4 forty and can turn on a dime and great instincts who cares what college he goes to? Last time I looked he plays for the Washington Redskins in the NFL. Does Elon play the Giants? I'll have to check.
