The Redskins have until this Friday to decide whether they want to pick up Doctson's 5th year option. I am completely on the fence about this one. To say this guy has under-performed since being drafted 22nd overall would be the understatement of the century. I guess I say pick up the option. Let him fight it out with the quality WRs we now have and let the chips fall where they may.

If he was going to have a breakout year he should have had it by now. This is more like a breakup year.

I don't know. I guess I'm just saying I don't know that its as simple as that. We're paying Paul Richardson $8m a year. I'd probably take one more year with Docston at $10m just in case.

I'd probably cut bait with all of them but it's not that easy. We didn't exactly prioritize receivers in the off-season. I still feel like we could get as much or more out of Cam Simms or Rober Davis or maybe even Terry McLaurin.

No, he 100% did not earn the 5th year option. I guess my concern is a bit like the Kirk Cousins contract thing where we balked at Cousins at $19.5m. We may find Docston at $10m in 2020 not really such a bad deal. We'll see. I certainly don't blame the team either way, and Gruden has clearly been annoyed with him over the past few years.

Maybe this motivates him.. The undisclosed injury at draft rime was BS. Would've made him a 3rd or 4th rounder. The qb carousel hasnt helped but damn. This is a go to the pats and win a sb next year type of guy. Sucky

Well, the Redskins declined to pick up Doctson's 5th year option. Good for the Redskins. Doctson has done nothing to warrant even being kept. If he goes somewhere else and has a banner year, so be it. Someone mentioned Cousins as an example of someone leaving and having a better year elsewhere. He went to the Viking and did the same as he did here, pass for lots of yards when it didn't matter and choke when it did. He did not make the play offs with a team that did the previous year with a "poorer" quarterback. If Doctson can make the team, so be it also. I wouldn't expect any more than we have seen in the first four years.

To be fair.. Its closer to 1.5 seasons.. 2016 2 games Injury. 2017 coming back from injury as pretty much a rookie, and then 2018 the 4 qb *sh$t* storm last year.

Hope his 4th year can be worth a damn, then we can decide what kind of contract he is or isnt worth

Nothing would make me happier than for Doctson to prove the Redskins front office wrong but nothing he has done in four seasons indicates he's going to do that.

If there is any position we've missed on as much as or more than quarterbacks it's receivers. I'm hoping that's going to be a focus of the next free agency period and draft. Get Haskins some weapons.

Need to see what they have in Davis and Simms and get McLaurin some reps. Do they have any receivers they can rely on for the future? If Quinn is the best they have they have nothing.

My issue with Doctson is less about his production than his injury history. I got the sense from Gruden that he was soft and they were frustrated he couldn't get on the field.

I put a lot of the production issues on the coaches as much as Doctson. Doesn't seem like he's targeted as much as I'd expect. 78 targets in both of the past two years. Santana Moss is in his prime was getting targeted 110-150 times each year. Djax 100 times each year. Maybe that's on him not getting open, I don't know, but it just seems odd. Does it ever seem the past two years like he was a featured part of the game plan?

I can't read minds but you'd think the possession receiver would be seeing a lot more targets. I mean that is who the QB should be looking to first for any passing situation that is trying to avoid 3rd and long.

That's kind of mentality that breeds mediocrity IMO. It's what the Skins were famous for in the past. You don't pay or extend players who haven't produced! Let's be honest here, Doctson career numbers are equal to a down year for Antonio Brown, "IF" he has a breakout year (stop me if you've heard that before) it will be because the Skins made this move!
