Not sure. I'd like to see them sneak up and steal Sweat but I'm betting he's off the board soon.cowboykillerzRGiii wrote:I get that train of thought... But with the first WR going now (stud btw) I dont know that we need to do that?

Or not!
Washington is trading up to Indianapolis’ spot at No. 26.

Looks like they arent taking any chances to wait around!Burgundy&GoldForever wrote:If Metcalf falls into the 2nd they need to move back up and get him. Now that they have a QB they need receivers.cowboykillerzRGiii wrote:Now the onslaught of all of the above! Lol
Depending on the pick and the cost- this could be one of the best moves Ive seen this FO make as far as trades in the draft

Nice. They got Sweat. There's that pass rusher.

Sweat was a top ten pick easily, maybe a top five pick before he was misdiagnosed with a heart condition. I like this pick.cowboykillerzRGiii wrote:Two 2s.... I dont love it.

Re: 2019 NFL DRAFT
If you told me we'd get Haskins AND Sweat on the first day of the draft and only had to give up next years 2nd?? Id be pumped beyond belief!
So I'm pretty pleased with the FOs maneuvers tonight.
Before the heart (fake) news he was seen as a top 5 bpa in the whole draft. Love how we leap frogged brother Gruden to get him too!

I get the not being a fan of trading away picks. But we need talent, not just bodies, and I'm impressed the Skins had the guts to trade up. I was just saying what I would like to happen with the thought that it wouldn't happen.cowboykillerzRGiii wrote:B&G4ever totally agree... You beat me to the punch, but ya he is well worth it. I have to give the Skins credit for this draft so far. And there is no way Dan Snyder had anything to do with this strategy. If he did we would have traded up to #1 overall to draft Haskins since he went to school with Dan's son.

If they can get lucky enough to snag one of the receivers or one of the cornerbacks with their next pick ...

One point on Sweat: At 6'6" and 260lbs he runs a 4.4 40.

Re: 2019 NFL DRAFT
My last thoughts of the night:
I think Drew Lock talked himself out of the first round with his "I'd rather be drafted by a good team and sit behind someone for two years than be drafted by a bad team" spiel.
I think teams are tired of guaranteeing contracts to diva receivers.
I think running backs have mostly lost first round value.
I think the Redskins came away with two top 15 picks.

Re: 2019 NFL DRAFT
Getting a shot at a franchise QB without having to move up was big.
The trade to grab Sweat seems OK to me. I'm assuming he was really high on our scouts' board, and in the last few years I've grown to trust our judgment . . . a little.
I'll probably end up eating these words, but it seemed to me like the Giants had a terrible first round, reaching for low-value picks to address team needs. I wouldn't mind seeing someone else in the NFC East suffer from a high-round QB bust, for once.

Re: 2019 NFL DRAFT
Ya man I'm pretty pumped actually... I let some of the anti Haskins posts sway my view on him- But most mocks had us trading up and costing likely more then we paid to get him AND Sweat!!
I was all in for Haskins when I watched him play... So to not have to move up and get another steal late??? Im ok with the 2nd rounder equating to 2 top ten picks- next years 2nd will have MUCH less value hopefully!

I don't know if Jones will be a bust but he was one hell of a reach at #6. They could have gotten him much later in the first or even in the 2nd round.Irn-Bru wrote:Getting a shot at a franchise QB without having to move up was big.

Re: 2019 NFL DRAFT
I don’t remember who said it but when we drafted RG he said if the Skins miss on him it would set the franchise back 10 years. Well here we are in year 7 and we are still trying to solve our QB position. I’m not thrilled with Haskins, why was he there at 15? Seems like a college move, bring in the local kid and sell more tickets. I’m curious if the football side of the house was on board with this? I just felt like we could have waited… I just pray we don’t turn into Arizona…Gruden gets fired, new coach comes in and wants his guy…great QB draft class next year!! All in all not a terrible night, as I said last night at least we didn’t have to move up to get Haskins…I hope everyone was on board with him! Moving up to take Sweat comes with risk but again we didn’t have to give up to much…upside is great on him!
Disappointed but happy for Darnell Savage, really wanted him here to pair with Collins!

One of these days, we'll have a successful 1st round QB. We can't be wrong every time, right? Right?!

Re: 2019 NFL DRAFT
I wanted Savage too but Green Bay moved up to draft him so the Skins had no shot. As far as the QB thing is concerned draft one every year until you get it right. Steve Smith compared Haskins to Dan Marino. That's probably a reach but if he has any of Marino's pocket passing ability or awareness (and the tape says he has some) then we got a good QB. The tape on Haskins shows him making throws most NFL quarterbacks can't make. His ball placement is ridiculously accurate. We'll see how that translates at the NFL level. He has a quick release so the NFL game speed shouldn't affect him. We had better address that left guard situation though. He's not a runner.DEHog wrote:I don’t remember who said it but when we drafted RG he said if the Skins miss on him it would set the franchise back 10 years. The is exactly what I drummed here during the last couple of months.I’m not thrilled with Haskins, why was he there at 15? Seems like a college move, bring in the local kid and sell more tickets
A need of a new QB was not just a "sports need", it was a commercial consideration.
Before the draft, we had little to no NFL buzz with Keenum and Colt as QBs,
now we're the guys that drafted their QB of the future (or present).
A franchise like the Redskins can not openly embrace mediocrity for a long period of time.
It needs to play like a high roller every time, every season, lest the fans start to abandon the stadium
like we saw las season. That was a national embarrassment.
I'm betting the FO sells more tickets thanks to the Haskins factor.
Let's hope he makes it big time. Lots of pressure on his shoulders.

I can't imagine the Skins trading back up into the 2nd round with two picks in the 3rd so I think we can all breathe today.

Montez Sweat was a highly rated first round talent. By drafting him in the first round we'll have the possibility of exercising the FIFTH YEAR OPTION on him later on his contract. Unlike Preston Smith, Trent Murphy, etc; Assuming the guy plays up to his potential, that is highly valuable and worth the gamble giving away next year's second rounder IMO.
I know nobody wants to give away picks - I definitely don't. But the rule can't be NEVER give them away.
I was honestly blown away and surprised when I saw that the team had made that move. Absolutely love it. We were able to take our shot on a QB and address the other biggest area of need with an elite player in the first round.

I'm kind of hoping we're able to move down a bit in the third and pick up an extra 4th or 5th rounder.
