riggofan wrote: cool. I found an actual chart. Somebody did the work for me:

QB's drafted 1990-2016
pick success %
1-16 81%
17-32 65%
2nd round 48%
3rd round 25%
4th round 13%
5th round 6%
6th round 16%
7th round 6%

And here's the definition of success for the chart:
"Defining a successful pick at QB is difficult because success varies based upon draft position, but if you are drafted in the first half of the first round, you are expected to start immediately in the modern NFL (this changed around 2007 roughly) and you are only a successful pick if you are multi-year starter at QB for the team that drafted you. "
So you're saying there's a chance!! In all seriousness leave it to the Skins to miss at drafting a QB in the first half of the first round...no doubt Shuler and Griffin are in the 19%!!

Obviously, a franchise QB is one good way to get fans to show up to games. Having said that I still think he's gun shy about mortgaging the future for a QB. I just can't see him thinking that he's up for another RGIII scenario.
God, let's hope so. There's a big difference between trading up and mortgaging the future. The Cowboys traded away their first rounder this year for Amari Cooper. Sucks not to have a first rounder this year, but I don't think it was a "mortgage the future" move. I also hope he's learned to leave the player evaluations to the football people. Its fine and understandable if he wants a franchise QB, but he can't be the guy to deem player X as worth picking or not.

He's the owner and has business responsibility for making the team profitable. I don't have any issue with him playing that role, and I expect every other owner in the league does the same.
Honestly, I feel like the fans are past the "next great player" ploy of Snyder and CO. The only thing brining the fans back is winning.

Yeah and for some reason there's a better chance if you take a guy in the SIXTH round than the 5th!

omg. You're totally right about that. Plus we have Campbell and Ramsey dragging down the second half of the first...

All I want for Christmas is the next Sonny Jurgensen. 8-[

I'm pretty sure we have every one of the 19% of QB misses in the first round.

I honestly can't figure out what the team is going to do at QB, so f*** it. Let's trade up with the Jets and take Quinnen Williams.

I know. It only feels like we've had all of the misses.

Yeah that's just cos we don't so much "miss" as just completely crap the bed. :D

I'm joking and this is definitely true of our failed attempts at drafting a QB. For some reason the other day I looked up all of our first round picks in the past 20 years. Our track record in the first round otherwise is really not that bad. How many of these guys would you say were complete busts?

1999 7 Champ Bailey CB Georgia [40]
2000 2 LaVar Arrington LB Penn State [41]
3 Chris Samuels T Alabama [42]
2001 15 Rod Gardner WR Clemson
2002 32 Patrick Ramsey QB Tulane [43]
2003 — No pick — — [44]
2004 5 Sean Taylor S Miami (FL) [45]
2005 9 Carlos Rogers CB Auburn
25 Jason Campbell QB Auburn [46]
2006 — No pick — — [47]
2007 6 LaRon Landry S Louisiana State
2008 — No pick — — [48]
2009 13 Brian Orakpo LB Texas
2010 4 Trent Williams T Oklahoma
2011 16 Ryan Kerrigan DE Purdue
2012 2 Robert Griffin III QB Baylor [49]
2013 — No pick — — [49]
2014 — No pick — — [49]
2015 5 Brandon Scherff G Iowa
2016 22 Josh Doctson WR Texas Christian
2017 17 Jonathan Allen DE Alabama
2018 13 Daron Payne NT Alabama

Just messing around with the mock draft at lunch today, wondered what it would look like taking Lock at 15. That didn't happen but this stud OT fell. Held off on QB for a while for something like this:

1: R1P15
OT JAWAAN TAYLOR
FLORIDA
2: R2P14
WR HAKEEM BUTLER
IOWA STATE
3: R3P19
QB WILL GRIER
WEST VIRGINIA
4: R4P20
TE JACE STERNBERGER
TEXAS A&M

Not bad? :)

Unless you're moving the tackle inside to guard I'm not sure why the Skins would take a tackle in the 1st round. I admit I haven't done any research on Taylor. Does he project as a guard at the NFL level?

Darnell Savage a first rounder too... Nicely done, kid!

btw I am dying this morning hearing all of the griping at the Giants and Gettleman. How great will it be if Daniel Jones is a bust? Please, please, please...

We won't know for three years because Gettlemen said Jones will be sitting behind Eli that long.
