Yeah I don't get the Haskins hate at all. I'm in agreement that I don't want the team to go rg3 crazy trading away picks to get him.

Some rumors out there today that he's moved up the Raiders draft board.

I’m told Washington’s calls are “Bruce Allen being Bruce Allen,” making waves with no real desire to move.

Take Finley in the 3rd round, QB class is much better next year.

1:R1P15
EDGE Clelin Ferrell

2: R2P14
WR Marquise Brown
OK

3: R3P12
QB Ryan Finley
NC STATE

4: R3P32
S Darnell Savage
Maryland

5: R5P15
G Dru Samia
OK

6: R5P35

Yea I understand QB, I just don't want to reach for one. Savage is a sentimental pick because I coached against him, great young man, smart and an athlete!!

I doubt the Raiders even have a draft board.

Everything I've read about him has been positive and apparently the team has interest in him. Think the team met with him yesterday?

Believe the quote I remember reading was that if the Skins get Savage they'd immediately have one of the best safety combos in the league. Or something along those lines. Would sure love to see that...!

The Raiders have Mike Mayock this year. I wish the Redskins had brought him in a few years ago when the rumors were going around.

I hope he's better at drafting than he was at mocking the draft.

Don't know about the best but he would pair nicely with Collins and give us a very good and young S combo!

If Ferrell fell to #15 I'd be ecstatic. Savage would be a steal in the 4th. I'm not sold on Brown. He's a diva, just like his cousin Antonio. His nickname is "Hollywood." 8-[ He's also really undersized. He's listed at 5'9". If they insist on a WR I'd rather they find one built to go to the sticks and catch in traffic. Metcalf is built for that but he's not likely to be around in the 2nd.
Ferrell may be there, this draft is long on edge players...could be one of the others like Sweat or Gary. Do the Skins take Metcalf at 15 if he's there?? Would love to see Savage stay in D.C.

Then there is this...right on schedule! Won't be Redskins draft day without a big headline!!
Dan Snyder is reportedly taking over Washington's draft

Grant Paulsen
Just talked to a Redskins source who told me Dan Snyder has "taken over the first round of the draft."
The last time that happened the Redskins traded two future No. 1's and a No. 2 to move up for Robert Griffin.

That's where I've been stuck for months. They have so many needs my first thought is "Just get someone who can make plays!" But we've got to get this QB thing figured out. Right now we have one healthy QB on the roster. We're not even in a position to wait another year on the QB. If they have to waste a pick on a QB they may as well get a good prospect. I wouldn't be a fan of trading up. I say take whoever is there at #15. Someone has to fall. Whoever it is I'm sure the Redskins can use him.

Yea, I call B.S. on this. They'd have to trade up to #3 which means giving up next year's first round pick at minimum.

I don't see much difference from Haskins to Finley to Jones to Grier to Lock...I don't like Murray (Won't be there anyway). So just wait, I think one of them will be there in the 3rd round.

One possibility no one is talking about is trading back up into the 2nd if there's a prospect there they really like. They have the picks to do it. So, if one of the QBs (or anyone else they like) falls into the 2nd maybe they make a move there.

I can easily see that. I love that the Skins have been pretty quiet, they probably started the rumor that Snyder has taken over the draft!!

I saw at least one report that said the talk of the Redskins moving up is just "Bruce Allen being Bruce Allen." Apparently he plants all kinds of rumors himself to throw off the media and other teams from what he's really thinking.

That seems to be most likely. Apparently Bruce just does this every draft. Calls around. Its not exactly crazy. Really the only way to find out what other teams are thinking, who might be open to trades. Maybe you even pick up some idea on who a team is planning to draft.

I will say too that I'm not wildly concerned about the report that Dan Snyder is involved in the first round pick. I mean, I don't want him demanding a specific player or stepping in to trade away two first rounders or any of that nonsense. But if he's pushing the staff to find a franchise QB, I can at least understand it. If anything happens tonight that makes your eyes bug out in shock, we'll probably know immediately if Snyder has gone too far. :)

A 2d round guy could definitely be an option. Regardless of what Gruden says about guys "not being drafted to redshirt", I wouldn't hate the scenario of taking Stidham or Finley early in the second and letting him backup Keenum for the year.

I just don't buy taking a QB any later than that with the expectation that he's going to be groomed to be your starter. Franchise QBs are not taken in the third, fourth, fifth rounds. I don't care what Tom Brady says. hahah.

I don't think it's a national secret that Dan Snyder wants more fans in the seats and that whatever has to be done to make that happen is what he's pushing. Obviously, a franchise QB is one good way to get fans to show up to games. Having said that I still think he's gun shy about mortgaging the future for a QB. I just can't see him thinking that he's up for another RGIII scenario.

FWIW:

Washington denies a report from Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan that owner Dan Snyder has “taken over the first round of the draft.”

Team spokesman Tony Wyllie told Paulsen after Paulsen’s original tweet that “any person saying Dan Snyder has taken over the team’s first-round decision making is ‘categorically false.'”

Debatable. Yeah there are outliers, but I'm willing to bet the percentage of guys taken in those rounds and playing 4 or 5 years as a franchise QB for a team is exceptionally slim.

Oh cool. I found an actual chart. Somebody did the work for me:

QB's drafted 1990-2016
pick success %
1-16 81%
17-32 65%
2nd round 48%
3rd round 25%
4th round 13%
5th round 6%
6th round 16%
7th round 6%

And here's the definition of success for the chart:
"Defining a successful pick at QB is difficult because success varies based upon draft position, but if you are drafted in the first half of the first round, you are expected to start immediately in the modern NFL (this changed around 2007 roughly) and you are only a successful pick if you are multi-year starter at QB for the team that drafted you. "

God, let's hope so. There's a big difference between trading up and mortgaging the future. The Cowboys traded away their first rounder this year for Amari Cooper. Sucks not to have a first rounder this year, but I don't think it was a "mortgage the future" move. I also hope he's learned to leave the player evaluations to the football people. Its fine and understandable if he wants a franchise QB, but he can't be the guy to deem player X as worth picking or not.

He's the owner and has business responsibility for making the team profitable. I don't have any issue with him playing that role, and I expect every other owner in the league does the same.
