Who DJ? My point is who is the guy in the locker room that told DJ to shut up and stop talking publically. I don't care about him saying what he said privately.
Look at how long he did it and this after Gruden asked him to stop and told him of the consequences. It speak to the culture...IMO.

DJ was a tough problem. He was a good safety on a team that hasn't had a good safety in years. He was a veteran player who stayed healthy and made plays. I know what you're saying about the team culture but given all that I'm not sure there were many players outside of like AP or Trent in a position to tell him to knock it off. And at the end of the day, pretty sure he wasn't going to be told what to do by anyone.

Ok, yeah I don't know either, but we do know he's coming in with baggage. I hated to see the way D.J. left, not sure why he didn't respect Gruden words?? My guess is it wasn't Gruden's call to cut him...I think a one game suspension earlier in the season might have helped??

The domestic violence charges that led Washington linebacker Reuben Foster to be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list last year were dropped in January and that led team president Bruce Allen to say that it was time for Foster to resume his playing career.

Allen got what he wanted on Friday. The NFL announced that Foster will be fined two game checks following a review of the November 2018 incident in Tampa that led the 49ers to release him, but will not be suspended during the 2019 season. They also announced he has been reinstated to Washington’s active roster.

The league’s statement also says Foster “has committed to a comprehensive accountability plan” put together by the league, the NFLPA and the team that is designed to “help him grow personally and avoid future misconduct.” If he does not avoid future misconduct, the league warns that he will face more substantial discipline as a result.

Foster was suspended two games at the start of last season and then appeared in six games for the 49ers before being cut loose. His last appearance came on October 28, but his next should be in Week One if all goes according to plan in Washington.

Allen deserves credit on this one. I never understood all of the handwringing over just claiming the rights to this guy. It was never an endorsement of anything he had done. It was a smart business move to make the waiver claim and see how the situation was resolved.

I think he knew he was getting rid of Zach Brown and figured if he could more or less steal a 25 year old linebacker from Alabama instead of drafting one it was worth a shot.

It was COMPLETELY worth a shot. Foster has the potential to be an absolute beast.

I think one of the edge rushers (Burns or Sweat) might fall to them if that's the direction they choose to go. That front seven could be something special if they can avoid the injuries. I'm still of the mind they can't fix every position this off-season so I see them signing some waiver wire veterans to fill in the gaps. My best guess is that receiver tops that list.

I think you're right on all counts. WR feels like the least likely position for them to "fix" this year.

Echo the good idea to see what happens... And now we really have to give the FO credit after the news.

A young ('Bama boy) first rounder will really make what ever qb move they make this draft sting a lot less... Also, our 'Bama Skins should REALLY be enticing to Saban next year

I mean, seriously. From all accounts, Foster was a guy that they were interested in drafting that year. If I'm not mistaken, I believe it was Gruden who was really big on him?

Probably dodged a bullet by not drafting him that year. If he's going to get his life together and get his career on track, this looks like a good situation for him.

Kind of a tangent, but I really hope this year they're able to take advantage of the talent we have on defense. I know there are a few holes still. The opposite edge from Kerrigan, still a little thin at CB. But we are straight up loaded on talent on D. We even have actual depth on the DL. It was really frustrating to me that the defense was so mediocre last year. They could make up for a lot of the offense deficiencies by taking advantage of what we have on the defensive side.

I'd have to look at it more closely. Totally admit that I'm not backing this up with any stats or anything. I just had this impression most of the year that they were under performing. I'm sure you're right though that they performed better when Smith was around controlling the clock more and keeping them off the field.

I'm doing the same (going from a failing memory) but it seems to me the defense was pretty solid when they weren't on the field 40+ minutes a game.
