Alex Smith Is "Day-To-Day"

Post by Burgundy&GoldForever »

This and other lies brought to you courtesy of Bruce Allen.
Redskins President Bruce Allen on Thursday denied a recent NFL Network report that the team is prepared for quarterback Alex Smith to miss all of 2019, calling it “nonsense.”

Speaking to WTEM-AM (the Team 980) from the Super Bowl, Allen said Smith “is improving,” but did not give a timeline for when Smith would return from the compound fracture of his leg suffered last season and the ensuring series of surgeries to stop infections in the leg.

“He really is a day-to-day guy,” Allen said, explaining that Smith is not looking too far ahead in his recovery.

So basically, we're going all-in for a QB in the draft.

That's my interpretation. That or tanking the season with Colt/Johnson, which does not seam logical.

Yea, probably mortgaging the future for Drew Lock.

I keep seeing him in mock drafts to the Skins. Do you think its really a mortgage the future option?

The top 5 teams don't seem to be in the QB market. Cards, SF, Jets, Raiders, Bucs.

Giants and Jags at 6 and 7 probably are. I'm not sure after the Bortles thing though that the Jags don't go after one of the top FA QB's. Maybe Foles?

Seems like you might have to trade up to 9 to get ahead of the Broncos. I wouldn't want to see an insane RG3 trade, but I'd give up next years #1 if the team was sure about the QB.

I do realize that is a HUGE "if". :)

Sucks to lose a 1st round pick, but QB is just so huge. And not having to pay a franchise QB salary for a few years you can make up for it a little more with free agents I would argue.

It seems like the fascination with Lock is his arm strength. He's more or less the typical NFL QB prototype size at 6'4" and 225lbs. Most of the mocks I've seen have Jacksonville taking him at #6 so, as things stand now, it would be expensive to move up. Not RGIII expensive but expensive nevertheless. The Giants should definitely be looking for a QB. Eli was hot garbage even when the defense was carrying them to the Super Bowl. He's even worse now.

I'm going to say that if you think Drew Lock is even a competent NFL passer you do what you have to do to move up. It's getting harder and harder to find NFL caliber starting quarterbacks. If the Redskins have proven anything over the last 27 years it is that taking quarterbacks off the scrap heap from other teams is a bad strategy.

Yeah I will never pretend to know if any of these college QBs look capable of making the jump. I would prefer someone with the prototypical QB size you described though. I do feel like we have people who can at least make informed judgements on the college quarterbacks. Mainly talking about Doug and Jay.

As one of the Post reporters put it last week, Bruce Allen insults the fan-base by by assuming that we believe the lies he tells. The denial of ESPN reports on Smith's health are the ultimate non-denial denial. Smith doesn't look ahead to next season or the rest of his career: he's a "day-to-day" guy. Which means??

Then there is the explanation of the team's offensive thinking:
Allen also praised Gruden’s recent promotion of passing game coordinator Kevin O’Connell to offensive coordinator, while retaining last year’s offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh as a senior offensive assistant, saying it was Gruden’s idea to bring “fresh thinking” to the offense.

“This move will give Jay and Matt a new way to approach it,” Allen said.

He added that Gruden remains the team’s play-caller “for now.”

So the Redskins will have two offensive coordinators plus Gruden, who will call the plays "for now"? Meaning this week? Or during training camp? Or pre-season? Or for the first four games?

AND
Dan and Bruce have proven that while they make the decisions, the Redskins will remain mediocre no matter who is playing or coaching

I know that I keep harping on this but I'm really mad at Dan and Bruce for what they've done and how their decisions have hurt this franchise and I don't see how anyone can think that this franchise will do any better than it has since Dan & Bruce took over

The Redskins can get better but not if they keep making stupid decisions, especially, trying to improve the QB situation when they have proven that this is something they don't know anything about

Doug and Jay may be able to make 'informed decisions' about college QBs - that is something that is just NOT going to happen with Dan & Bruce

hopefully we keep all of our draft picks and even add some through trades
this coming season is another where we just hope we get lucky and hope that at the end of the season things will change here

we don't need better coaches or a franchise QB as much as we need a place where the players and coaches KNOW that the guys they are working for and with, have a clue about what they are doing
these 2 idiots affect the product on the field by having a losing culture which is due to the way they manage this franchise

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The quarterback problem started long before Dan Snyder and Bruce Allen. It started around 1993 when Rypien went into the tank and they had Rich Gannon starting games. The next season they drafted Heath Shuler. They took John Friesz off the scrap heap. They started 7th round pick Gus Frerotte four games. A couple of years later they took Jeff Hostetler off the scrap heap and drafted Trent Green. Green had that blood issue so they let him go to Kansas City. They signed scrap heap quarterbacks Brad Johnson and Rodney Peete. The next year they signed scrap heap king Jeff George. Pretty much all of that happened before Snyder started meddling in the day-to-day operation of the team.

OK - that's true BUT recently Dan & Bruce have really been bad at managing this franchise and especially at possibly the most critical position ...

Even if we were to bring in Brady and Belichick I just don't see the franchise getting better - the biggest issue here is that nobody can possibly be happy coaching or playing for these 2 bozos - that is why I hope they keep adding good young players so that when Dan "sees the light" the new GM will be able to bring in his people and turn things around - IF he doesn't, it really doesn't matter what they do - mediocrity is as good as it gets

nothing is changing here with this culture that Dan and Bruce have perfected

rant over

Some of those QBs had very good careers, but not with the Redskins.
Mainly Trent Green and Brad Johnson. Good QBs that just needed a solid system to work in.
The latter is a particularly sad case because Snyder did meddle with Turner and Johnson
and ultimately both left or were fired. A bit later, Brad won a Super Bowl.

Now Rodney Peete was an interesting case because he was Marty's guy. Against all odds
we finished 8-8 with Peete as QB and a very good running game. If there ever was a system QB he was it.

We all know what happened later. More meddling with Snyder.
